The reason why tattoos are permanent is because the size of the ink particles are too big for the immune system to remove. This is why a fresh tattoo is so detailed, but they do fade as the immune system removes the finer particles. Laser removal works by superheating the ink particles and breaking them into small pieces the immune system can then remove.

The human body recognizes the ink as a foreign object and the immune system actually never removes any particles. The white blood cells encapsulate the ink to prevent it from making any damage and when that white blood cell dies it gets replaced by another and some ink gets lost in the process. The ink that flows freely usually gets stuck in the lymph nodes where it stays.

I was honestly surprised they didn't take this as an opportunity to team up with a pro in this instance. It'd only be a realistic experiment with someone who knows how to operate the equipment. As someone with a tattoo, and yet also a distaste for needles (like to the point of nearly passing out from getting blood drawn), it's really not that bad people. I had my ribs done and it was fine. After about the 3rd hour it began to get uncomfortable, but truly, it's not that bad. If you want body art, don't let fear prevent you.

The beautiful thing about slow motion photography is that it happens so fast, you don't really need to hold the light that steady to get a good shot. The most important thing is to get LOTS of light on the subject, and a super bright flashlight fits that bill nicely in a lot of cases.

I have tatts on my fingers and the dude who did them had to trace the shapes 8-10 times due to how thick my skin is. He was blown away that I wasn't complaining because fingers are notoriously painful to tattoo. No tough guy BS it honestly felt slightly stingy. My wrist was 100x more painful. But now when people see my tatts they assume I'm some big tough guy. This video is only adding to my undeserved street cred.

As a tattoo artist the first pass you took with the liner needle made me cringeeeeee lol we definitely don’t go that deep that would scar someone up reallll quick. Silicone and similar mixtures are actually way harder to get ink to stay into. This was a great demonstration of how the needles actually get ink into the skin though. That is how it works in skin, those rubber mixtures just are harder for the needles to penetrate to make that ink transfer happen. With proper technique of pulling a line with tattoo needles, looking it it from the side, I’m pretty sure you’d see something somewhat closer to a solid rectangle going as deep as the needle did, instead of the jaggedness they had if that makes sense. No offense but homie would not be pulling clean lines like that 😂

This was super cool to see. About a year ago I got my first tattoo. I'm very scared of needles. Getting blood drawn is always anxiety filled for me so I totally get why people are scared about this. My step-dad actually deterred me for a few years because one night he was acting like he was going to take me to get a tattoo and then said something like "let's go turn your arm into hamburger meat" lol and I panicked and didn't go. Now I know everybody is different and even though I don't like needles I'm also not one of those people that faints when getting stuck so I know not everyone will be able to do it. I held a friends hand the entire time because I was nervous but it truly wasnt that bad. I got mine on the inside of my wrist. The first line that my tattoo artist did almost tickled. Now that is a very sensitive area so the closer he got to the center, where the skin is thinnest and there's a lot less meat, the more it began to hurt. Tattoos (for most normal people) don't feel good. It's not a massage. But even though it started to hurt it was pretty bearable. In my opinion the worst part about getting a tattoo is while it is healing it itches and you can't scratch it lol for a couple weeks it would itch and all I could do was lightly tap it. So if you want to get a tattoo but you're scared, just know it's really not that bad

To any aspiring tattoo artists out there, remember this, "Different skin takes ink better than others." I only have 3 tats, two of which were are cover ups, but there was a significant difference in pain levels between different artists. While I was getting my coverups, I mentioned to the artist ( a 40ish year old woman who had owned and operated her shop for 15 years ) how much less painful it was compared to when I first got them, and she told me my skin held ink very well. She went on to say that some artists really dig into the skin to guarantee the ink fully penetrates the top layer. It's not wrong per se, but it's not always necessary.

I have 4 tattoos, but my skin is the opposite of yours, I had to have 3 of them touched up because my skin doesn't hold the ink very well and one of them still has a couple of colourless blotches after 2 touch-ups. Strangely it's the 3 black ink only ones that didn't stick well, the one with colour had no problem at all holding the ink, I wonder if it's something to do with the make-up of the black ink.

***Just so everyone knows - EVERY person has places on their body that hurt and that don’t hurt!! You are completely in control as to where you get a tattoo, if it’s shaded, how big, etc. and how long you sit. You do NOT have to sit for any amount of time, it’s up to you 😂❤ I think ppl think there’s no choices, it will always hurt and always take a long time. For me, tattoos on my arms and back I can’t feel hardly at all, it’s relaxing, like someone scratching an itch. And everyone has less sensitive places like this on their body where they could get tattoos without a problem! ❤ There’s too much fear and misunderstandings about tattoos, when in reality they’re a beautiful way to express yourself.

@@_ericsherrill Even still, I’ve never been interested. To me, a lot of tattoos are just permanent expressions of temporary emotions. While there are certainly tattoos that hold sentimental value and I wouldn’t think less of anyone else for getting them or invalidate the feelings they have towards them, I don’t feel the need to display those feelings on my body when I can just display them through my words or actions. Also, our bodies change as we get older. What looks good now probably won’t look good several years down the line.

The ink getting sucked into the wound channel was super interesting. Didn't know, or even think it worked like that, but here we are.

Honestly, this was a great sponsorship. A product that not only do you consistently use, but you also commonly use it on the channel.

Tattoo artist here! This is hilarious start to finish. 🤣 the “nubs” are cartridges, not all tattoo machines use them, some use needles soldered to a bar. Cartridges are much better because they are single use and disposable, they also have a membrane which prevents ink from back flowing into your machine and contaminating it (in this industry we pretend that everyone has AIDS). The first thing you used is a liner, there are also shaders, curved magnums and flat magnums (which is the other thing you used), all serve different purposes. Each machine has a different “throw” which is essentially the maximum depth that it can penetrate. Mine both have a 3.7mm throw for example. Generally speaking something with a lower throw/depth will create a softer effect. A lot of artists who do soft blends and shading (like me) prefer a lower throw whereas American Traditional artists for example often prefer a higher throw because it’s easier to get a bold line without having to crank the RPM on the machine. The RPM goes from 5-12 on most machines. Sooo you guys could have a lot of fun with different depths and effects by messing around with the throw, needle types, RPM, and the give (which is essentially how much the needles resist the skin). Thanks for making this, it was really cool to see under the skin! A video like this could be helpful for apprentices too!

Congratulations you two, you re-enforced people with a phobia for needles's fears.
