whenever korean artists visit hawaii, it's almost always oahu, where i live. so i like to timestamp the different locations and happenings, in case you're interested or plan to visit: 0:15 this is the prince waikiki hotel. when entering waikiki from the west, it's the first hotel on the right. it's big, it's grand, and the view of ala wai harbor and the ocean beyond is quite nice. seohyun also stayed at this same hotel (probably the same room, judging by the view) when she came in october 2023. i remember staying there after my senior prom in 2002. there is no balcony, but the windows open (shown here at 4:47). DO NOT THROW STUFF OUT OF IT. there are tour buses and limos and cabs below (it's where sooyoung was picked up at 3:04) 1:52 this is on atkinson st, just over the bridge from her hotel. the side of the road she's on is residential, with just condos. the shopping center (ala moana shopping center, with it's terrific food court) is across the street. 3:04 ladies and gentlemen, the sweet, the lovely, the gorgeous, the hard-working, bekah from after school! for those who haven't kept up with her, she's now a business owner and artist here, and she has a youtube channel as well (Bekah Kim @Bek100studio). for a year or so she posted a vlog series "Life After K-pop" but those videos are now private. she does still have some covers and dance practice stuff, last i checked. she's longtime friends with sooyoung and yuri☺ 4:14 ko'olau ballrooms at the pali golf course in kaneohe. this is pretty far from waikiki. about 35 minutes over the mountain to the east side of the island. obviously, it's a beautiful beautiful place. the ballrooms are where many conferences and weddings and proms are held. i attended the marching band banquet my senior year there, wearing a golden-colored suit lol. the ballrooms overlook a golf course on one side and the mountain face on the other. google it yourself and see why it's such a prime choice for formal events. it's priced accordingly. this is also where you'll find the trailheads for a couple of very popular hiking spots in the area. you will not be able to park there for hiking (as the sign says.) and last i checked, ubers dropping off hikers were ticketed. i will not advise on how to get there in this comment. you'll have to learn that on your own if you ever come. 5:05 that's a zoomed in shot of magic island, as viewed from her room. magic island is not an actual island, it's a manmade peninsula (visible just beyond ala wai harbor outside her window.) it should look familiar to kpop fans, as it's where SISTAR filmed the roller skating scenes in their "Loving U" MV, and where hyorin would later return to shoot some scenes for her "See Sea" MV. in sooyoung's photo, you can see some small croppings of black rocks forming a half-circle off the shore. that's also manmade, and forms a lagoon, dampening the very lively waves in that area, which would otherwise be a bit too spicy for tourists and weak swimmers. 5:13 that, folks, is koko head crater. located on the southern point of the island, it's formed by an extinct volcano, much of which is eroded away. at the top there was a Navy communications bunker built in WW2. it was serviced by a tramway (like a railroad) whose ties (the wooden beams spanning horizontally across) now serve as steps to get to the top of the mountain. it is one of the steepest and gnarliest hikes in hawaii. it is BRUTAL. think of your worst stairmaster experience. now do it over 1024 steps that only get steeper as you go. also, it's even worse on the way down. it is worth it: the view at the top is indescribable. so your instagram feed will thank you, but your knees will fkng hate you. 5:27 at 7-eleven, there are over a dozen varieties of musubi and they're all terrific. buy a couple and leave them on the dashboard of the car while you go hiking or swimming or standup paddling. when you come back: hot snack waiting for you. can't go wrong. 5:46 near the southernmost tip of the island, there are two roadside scenic spots. one is called blowhole (named after a volcanic spout that shoots up water when the waves crash in) and one where sooyoung is, called lana'i lookout, named for one of the smaller islands to the south of oahu, visible on a clear day (along with maui and moloka'i). it's worth dealing with the traffic and tourist crowds, because the view is perfect. very windy, ocean's blue, sun's bright. can't beat it. it's a great spot for a photoshoot, that's for sure. 6:09 also in the area of koko head crater is the town of hawaii kai, a somewhat upperclass town (by hawaii standards anyway) with developed communities, very expensive homes, and an inlet that connects almost the entire interior of the town to the ocean. it's kind of neat to see. you won't find too many local families there. it's mostly retirees from the mainland. that's it for the vlog. i hope you all enjoyed seeing sooyoung in hawaii as much as i did! i'm a couple years behind on my watch later cue so i'm getting to this very late. if you've found this comment and enjoyed it, tell me and i'll let you know some of the other korean artists whose vlogs i've done a timestamp tour guide for. aloha!🤙
