I've been looking for real gold midi rings for FOREVER which inspired me to tackle some real gold jewelry DIY's! I test out which is better: buying or DIYing real gold rings, necklaces and earrings. I also break down my everyday jewelry collection and talk about the pieces I already own, the pieces I want to add, and then visit my local Mejuri, Bluboho and bead store to compare the real thing to my DIY dupe.
THINGS WE MENTIONED:
Making the same jewelry: $17 vs $170 💸 💸: • MAKING THE SAME JEWELR...

With silver you can just get some silver wire (silver wire is very affordable) a cheap creme brulee torch, lighter gas, silver solder and silver flux and sanding paper and you can make a whole bunch of midi/mini stacking rings. Super easy to do and won't set you back more than 30-35 euro.

I make my own rings out of wire all the time, I don’t know how to solder, so I found the easiest way to close it is to twist it around then squish it into a knot then wear it like the knot is a stone. One of my fav rings I wear is one I made out of copper wire from when my dad rewired his bathroom lol.
@rtd1791
@rtd1791 4 жыл бұрын
Same here. First piece I ever made was a copper wire ring closed with a knot. I made it when I was 11 out of wire I took from my stepdad’s tool box. I still have it. I’ve been making jewelry ever since. I always say that the best part of being able to make jewelry is being able to remake jewelry. When I become tired of a piece, I just break it apart and turn it into something else. Learning to solder is pretty easy. I encourage you to learn to do it because it expands your options. It’s fun too. Plus you’ll be able to solder jump rings which is eliminates the annoyance of jump rings coming apart.

The best wire that I've had while making rings is basic non tarnish craft wire from michaels. Works great. I get size 20 gauge and it's perfect for dainty rings, and its sturdy enough to hold it's shape. Edit: its about $5 or less for about 6 yards depending on which brand you get it can be either cheaper or about the same price.

BlueFox11 do you (Sauter/sodder?) it? I’d like to make rings but i have no experience with that. Do you think it could be glued close with E-6000 or something? :)
@BlueFox394.
@BlueFox394. 4 жыл бұрын
@@savannahs7252 I personally don't. I use pliers and scissors to cut and bend the wire. You dont need glue to close the ring. If you wrap the ring around something round (about the size of your finger) and cut it. Both sides should match up to where you dont need glue. To make designs you could always search up videos on yt. (Beginner ring making with craft wire) or something along the lines of that. Sodding would burn the outter protective coating which helps it not tarnish so I wouldn't do that. (The wire isn't that hard to bend anyways) Good luck crafting!

You can also wrap the plier jaws with painter’s tape. As you work with wire, it work hardens. It will also harden with wear (as it gets bent, etc.). The jump ring ends will stretch open. For comfort and quality, soldered is best. Especially if you wear nice textiles or have children. The ends will cause pulls in fabric (which might cost more than buying handmade artisan jewelry). The sharp ends may also scratch skin.

So happy to see another jewelry video made! Jewelry dabbler/maker here too! If I may, you and Becky should look into taking a jewelry class-like you did with pottery- you will be hooked! That is what happened with me, I wanted to make small simple rings and fix all my broken stuff (I did make a chain ring too, love them, I looped a little tiny pearl on a wire and attached it as well) and I became obsessed! I remember Becky enjoying making jewelry in the last jewelry video you guys made. One class will teach you how to solder and some basics of manipulating metal with heat and hammer and world is your oyster!!! I think you guys will be really good at it and rewards will last a lifetime; it is also recyclable, which is what I love about working with gold and sterling or fine silver. Melt some scrap gold with simple creme brulee torch, hammer it and file it into shape and then solder it to a sterling silver band- two tone one of the kind ring that is your size and you can always turn it into something else later. Not to be one of those people but here is my tiny shop- I do this as a hobby-for reference! Love you, girls!!! My favorite channel! www.etsy.com/shop/SparklePin

Another type of midi ring to make, with no soldering, is to create a ring similar to the swirled end ring. Make a swirl on one end, wrap the wire 2 or 3 times around the ring mandrel (or whatever you use) and end with another swirl. That way, there is no soldering and you can fit whatever finger you want including making it a ring to fit your actual finger size. (Hope that made sense 😉)

I have been thinking of getting more into jewelry making and I am so glad I found your vid. I will go back and watch the other one too. You could put your chain ring in front of the one that she gave you thats too big to hold it on better.

Okay I love these jewelry videos and I think it would be really cool for you guys to do more Mejuri inspired jewelry diys! I feel like they’re really trendy right now on the internet and for good reason. It might be cool if you guys were gifted some items from them/sponsored by them and then tried to recreate the items and compare the prices and time that it took to make them? Or even just showing some jewelry they make you and making other diy jewelry that compliments it. But anyway I wouldn’t be surprised if they reached out to you guys after this video :)

I have my rook pierced and it took almost a whole year for mine to heal too. I’m pretty sure that’s normal for piercings like that I love how informative this video was btw and you looked gorg in that monochrome look 😍

I love making wire rings - I twist the wire around itself though so its sturdier/decorative. Just clamp two wire ends into a clamp, and then hold the pliers closed and twist it likes youre making rope. it holds the twisted shape. Then you have a texture to your rings!

You can use pliers with a thin layer of teflon or silicone on them or use the microfiber from your glasses to wrap around your wire so it doesn't scratch.. Also you could have made your open ring by threading a tiny crystal on each open end and securing with epoxy or even hammering the ends to stop it from falling off

I grew up in IL, and never heard the term “boob” for the clasp before. We just called it a clasp, but when it got to the front one was supposed to make a wish and move it to the back in one motion to make the wish come true.

Kelsey, If you ever have an infected piercing don't take it out!! The hole can close up and the infection can get trapped inside your body. If it's really bad of course go to the dr for a round of antibiotics but most infected piercings can heal on their own with a good cleaning regimen. I'm not a doctor so do your own research but I used to work at body jewelry shop and I've had all the piercings.
