raki and ouzo are different drinks because raki is made from grape skins in ancient greek the grape skin is called rax so we have rax from rakos. ouzo is a drink made by distilling alcohol with various spices. there is also tsipouro which is made from the skins of the grape after they have been pressed to release the must. I also want to write about the meatballs, they are from an ancient recipe called KOFTOS, which means minced meat that was made into balls and cooked in oil.

Yeah, ouzo is pharmaceutical grade pure alcohol with flavouring. The best ouzo is from the island of Lesvos, especially from the area of Plomari

12:47 The reason there were so many Jews is the Reconquista (1492), that drove thousands of Jews to seek refuge in the Ottoman empire ; after all they had been living side by side with Muslims, and thriving for centuries until the Iberian peninsula was taken over by the Chistians. The Sultan famously said (he is supposed to have said, anyway )"The Spanish king's loss, my gain" and settled them in Thessaloniki, that had never recovered from the sack of 1430, when it was conquered by he Ottomans. So, rather than trying to keep the Greek population at check, the Sultan was actually repopulating an almost abandoned city.
@history_repeats8201Ай бұрын
He was afraid of the Greeks gaining too much power in the city and he wanted to use the Jews against the Orthodox who were the merchants and shop owners at the time otherwise he had no lost love for Jews.

My Super Millionaire Grangfather + Grandmother came from Smyrna only with their clothes. I had only Aunts, Aunts, Aunts and no Uncles at all . Do you understand why ? My Grandfather also died after ~5 years on the street from stroke , when he realized, that they would never go back ! But , I must confess, that this man is something else ! Certainly, there are more. Now a minority. In the future, maybe more .

in ottoman times the religions was harshly seperated by law and each group was only allowed to live in their respective quarters, which was the muslim in upper town, the jews in the center and the greek in the outskirts. ataturk was born and lived in the jewish quarter and his house still stands and serves today as turkish consulate and museum. turks dont want to accept the fact that the "father of turks" who abolished the caliphate and banned islam in the public was a "crypto"jew but the location of his house gives it away.
@FastEddieDice8 сағат бұрын
actually, ataturk wasn't born in that house, despite the official narrative. he was born here: el.wikipedia.org/wiki/%CE%A7%CF%81%CF%85%CF%83%CE%B1%CF%85%CE%B3%CE%AE_%CE%98%CE%B5%CF%83%CF%83%CE%B1%CE%BB%CE%BF%CE%BD%CE%AF%CE%BA%CE%B7%CF%82#/maplink/0

@@FastEddieDice actually he was born in 1881 in thessaloniki , both the museumsite and also the wiki claim that and its also written on the house itself: "The house is the birthplace of the founder of modern Turkey, Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, who was born here in 1881.[2] It is a three-floor house with a courtyard on 24 Apostolou Pavlou Street, next to the Turkish Consulate. " en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Atat%C3%BCrk_Museum_(Thessaloniki) "Atatürk was born either in the Ahmet Subaşı neighbourhood or at a house (preserved as a museum) in Islahhane Street (now Apostolou Pavlou Street) in the Koca Kasım Pasha neighbourhood in Salonica (Selanik),[30] Ottoman Empire (Thessaloniki in present-day Greece). @@FastEddieDice where did u get ur info from, i couldnt find it anywhere but i can see why some would want him to be born elsewhere.
@FastEddieDice6 сағат бұрын
@@horror11 these sites are often wrong. firstly, no one knew when ataturk was born, including his own mother. he DID grow up in the house in thessaloniki. but he was born in chrysavgí, where the father and the brother of kemal's mother zübeydeh hanım were local landlords. after 3-4 months, the family moved to the now-famous house in thessaloniki. head to chrysavgí and talk to the old people who remember the old people talking about this in the village cafe. or talk to a local historian. the official narrative is thanks to the always-weird greek-turkish politics

@arisbelАй бұрын
@@FastEddieDice Byzantine era sights, all similar to each other, can be condensed into one morning. Evening of that same day spent by the new promenade, the only truly beautiful place. Beaches, where the sea is in fact safe to swim, are located in Chalkidiki, min. 60km away. Dive into sea at the city's seafront at your peril. So, yes, a day wil probably be enough.
