Reggae is a music genre that originated in Jamaica in the late 1960s. The term also denotes the modern popular music of Jamaica and its diaspora. A 1968 single by Toots and the Maytals, "Do the Reggay", was the first popular song to use the word reggae, effectively naming the genre and introducing it to a global audience. Jamaican reggae music evolved out of the earlier genres mento, ska and rocksteady.

In the early days they called it race music and there was always some crafty, shifty, wyte person pulling the strings whether it was through distribution, calling the shots through intimidation and strong arming. History Lesson on Reggae: Ska (/skɑː/; Jamaican Creole: skia, [skjæ]) is a music genre that originated in Jamaica in the late 1950s and was the precursor to rocksteady and reggae.[1] It combined elements of Caribbean mento and calypso with American jazz and rhythm and blues. Ska is characterized by a walking bass line accented with rhythms on the off beat. It was developed in Jamaica in the 1960s when Stranger Cole, Prince Buster, Clement "Coxsone" Dodd, and Duke Reid formed sound systems to play American rhythm and blues and then began recording their own songs.[2] In the early 1960s, ska was the dominant music genre of Jamaica and was popular with British mods and with many skinheads.

@TyroneGladden , just like Jews are the silent partners in advancing hip hop, Chinese Jamaican like Byron Lee and the Chins have been influential in the creation and advancement of Reggae Music. Next we are going to hear David Rodigan created sound clash and dubplate specials....😅😅 Chinese are no more a creator than a white Blackwell who formed Island record, and become one the most influential, that word again, to the advancement of Reggae Music. Ghetto or Urban Music has always suffer from the lack of funding, and in all cases here goes the business man with his capital and zero experience of the product but sees a venture that will turn a profit. The problem with these conversation or topics are the broad brush approach instead of looking where those contributions were and are being made. For the record. No Jamaican sees Byron Lee, Chin of VP, Butch Stewart, the Azans, the Mafood, and all the others as nothing but Jamaicans regardless. They are first and second generation immigrants making up 8% of.. Out of Many One People. Before making general statement and waxing about such deep subject. Do a deep dive into the role these people play in the development of the music.

Reggae music was created by the descendants of the Maroons and Nyabinghi. The rhythms of the Nyabinghi chants and drumming is what gave influence to what became Reggae Music. Along with the mixture of the Chinese and Indo-Jamaicans (India Indians), they had a major influence on the culture. Hinduism and Coptic Christianity had a major influence in Rastafarianism, but it's creation is from the Nyabinghi mansion of the Maroons.

Aside from the instruments being created, a lot of people create make-shift instruments out of resources around them. So in the ghetto, you may see someone with a make shift bongo or some type of percussion.Same with string instruments. They think they know Jamaican History but only to look down on the oppressed! Colonizer brought in Their Indians and Chinese to replace the Black ppl who ALSO fought to HAVE rights from mistreatment of workers THATS WHAT SAM SHARPE FOUGHT AND DIED FOR WHICH W.E.B DUBOIS studIED to get the non-violence protest movement from. After freeing the slaves they wanted them not to farm on their land to buy from them ! So they bring Chinese and Indians and pay them. That’s where the motto “out of many one ppl came from”

There should be no separation of Chinese from Jamaican those descendants of the Hakka Chinese are Jamaicans as they were born there just like how those of African descent who were born there are Jamaicans. There are also Indian Jamaicans and others. Those of Indian descent have a large footprint in the food culture, those of Chinese descent have a large footprint in both the food and music industries just like those of African descent. So yes Chinese Jamaicans contribution to reggae and dancehall soca is largely overlooked by the media but many Jamaicans on the island of the baby boomers era know of their contribution .

If your family immigrated from another country than you are not American or from the country they immigrated to! I'm an FBA OUTSIDE MY HOME AND I AM A FBA INSIDE MY HOME! I HAVE NO FAMILY IN ANY OTHER COUNTRY AND ALL THE FOOD I EAT IS SOUL FOOD! I ONLY HAVE AN FBA CULTURE AND MY PEOPLE LINEAGE CAME FROM THIS NORTH AMERICAN DIRT AND IT CAN'T BE TRACED BACK TO ANY OTHER COUNTRY! IM A REAL AMERICAN AND THAT'S THE ONLY WAY YOU CAN BE ONE! JAMAICANS AND FOREIGNERS SAY THEIR KIDS THAT ARE BORN HERE ARE AMERICAN SO THEY CAN TRY TO HAVE SOME TIES TO OUR LAND BUT IT DOES NOT WORK THAT WAY! TRY GOING TO JAPAN AND HAVE YOUR BLACK BABIES THERE AND TELL THEM THAT THEY ARE JAPANESE 😂YOU ARE NOT APART OF THAT JAPANESE BLOODLINE AND THAT BLOODLINE IS APART OF THAT LAND SO YOU WON'T BE THE SAME AS THEM AND YOU WILL NEVER BE!ALSO CHINA CREATED REGGAE!
