Reminds me when I first emigrated to a new country and didn't have any money so I was sleeping in my storage unit with my shipped belongings for a few weeks until I found a job, and was always paranoid about security noticing me. One morning I made my way to the bathroom for a shave before the place opened at 7.00 am, and there were two other guys in the bathroom who told me they had been doing the same thing for about 6 months. They said there was no permanent out of hours security but that mobile security always showed up around 3 am for half an hour or so. After that we would meet up in each other's units after lights went out most evenings for a chat and a game of chess.

I was homeless for a good while and decided to travel. Ended up in a mountain town an hour west of Denver and did basically the same, but in a broken down old camper trailer. A couple with an RV once asked me if I was okay and I was like yeah man just traveling in my youth. They gave me a new blanket, made me some spaghetti, and took me for a ride to a beautiful waterfall. Two years later about a month ago I began a move to a new city after having finally settled out of homelessness. I went to a local sporting event and they were sat right next to me. They didn't recognise me but I never forgot them. Stories like yours remind me of this time in my life where I was completely helpless. Thank you for the indulgence.

I did just that in a parking lot of a racing event last year. Got a large black silk table cloth on Amazon and secured it over the seats, making a little tent, and slept underneath with sleeping bag and etc. It was so comfortable that I overslept!

What I love about your videos is the creation of tension and "stealthness" that in reality, has no real justification. A friend and myself drove across Canada, and found backroads, Walmart parking lots, etc, and either pitched a tent, or slept in our car, without once being interrupted and asked to leave. We even ended up putting a tent on a trail in BC, that had dog walkers and runners early in the morning. We slept on golf courses as well. Never were we afraid or had to be "stealth."

I installed a lot of equipment in parking garages and I can tell you one thing. They do not care if you sleep in your car. They care more about property damage, break ins, and car thieft because they have to write a report up. The owners may care if you sleep in your car, but the people getting paid to keep an eye out do not.

Wife and I do the same. We upgraded to the Rav4 and got a new 22 model. We've been doing 3-4 road trips a year. We cut plywood in sections to add extra support in the back. 4in memory foam topper we fold in half so it's quite comfy. Got window screens. Battery and fan. We watch our phones. Got a hitch and cargo carrier for our cooler and things. We love it. Been to Colorado, Florida, Louisiana, Oklahoma, New Mexico, Alabama, Utah. Next years our big one. Vegas 😊

Good point steve about keeping your ride nice! "Let that be the only thing that turns people's heads". Well said and often overlooked. If you can stealth camp in a vehicle that looks like it belongs to a successful individual, you got one more way of blending in that eliminates any suspicion.

I used to work security, and I'll say this much: sometimes it's a judgment call on whether something's genuinely worth your time and potential risk to bother with. Like, even if that security guard knew you were stealth camping, and that was technically against the rules, it is REALLY worth it to try and take some dude into custody or make him leave if all he's doing is sleeping in his car? If something more serious is going on, that's one thing, but a lot of things regarding security and enforcement is a gut check as to whether the juice is worth the squeeze. Also, can I just say, it's nice to see a major city that actually takes security seriously, instead of taking law enforcement for granted and then seeing things fall apart into lawless wasteland.

Neat video idea Steve. There's something un-nerving about multi-story car parks to me. I'm sure this kind of rest-stop happens more often that not and I would say that the security guard had an inkling what you were there for and bypassed. Which is pretty cool if he did. Hey did anyone else hear about the "Roof Ninja" lady that made a mini-home in a Grocery-store signage compartment on the top of the building?? In Michigan. Lived there for a year, then simply moved on when confronted. I thought it was inspiring as much as it was worrying for her! That lady knew how to Stealth camp for sure!

You guys are thinking too much about the stuff, that makes no difference. At the distance, nobody would look at the mid-range SUV and go "hey, why does it have it's windows cracked?" - They'll take it for granted, since the place is hot (IF anyone minds that at all) Upclose, even the hidden under deflectors, the gaps would provide the smell of a sleeping person, also maybe breathing noise. So suspicious person would note that anyway, and the rest just wouldn't care, & let you be.
