As always I'll offer my experience with Alfa Romeo reliability, just in case it convinces anyone reading this to get one. My moms 2018 Giulia Veloce that we have since new, 70k+ km on the odo, basically 0 issues. It once changed the infotainment language to german for about 20 seconds after sitting in the Italian sun on a trip in the middle of summer (40 degree celsius weather) and that's the most glaring problem I can think of. Car gets used in all weathers and conditions and is dead reliable no matter if it's freezing outside or it's getting pushed hard on twisty roads on the hottest days of summer. Amazing to drive.

Great review. Having testing this for some time now, here were a few other points of feedback: - In N (normal / natural) mode, the Tonale blows through it's electric charge, leaving you wanting for power when it runs out. This usage should be baseline in the A (advanced efficiency) mode. Definitely a software tweak required to balance out both engine uses. - The 1.3T gas engine runs significantly better with premium - better power delivery and fuel economy. Tested with all levels (91/94/98) and it is a night and day difference. Alfa is doing customers a disservice by not recommending it. - Why is the ability to enable adaptive damping disabled in N mode (and only available in D)? - There is no ability to change the regen braking strength in each mode. D mode automatically enables aggressive regen (which can't be adjusted) which makes cruising in this mode a chore.
@TheStraightPipes10 ай бұрын
Correct on all accounts. The lack of ability to change suspension (and regen) has been an Alfa / Maserati / Ferrari thing forever

That seems like an unfair comparison! How does the Tonale compare to the Alfa Romeo Giulietta hatchback (or Dodge Dart sedan), it's immediate non-SUV predecessor? Or to an Alfa Romeo Mito? It seems most unfair to compare Giorgio rear wheel drive platform Alfas to FIAT-based front wheel drive Alfas! Think of the Tonale as an Alfa-ised version of the FIAT 500X or Jeep Renegade, or an SUV upgrade on the current FIAT Tipo (Dodge Neon). [It's a huge shame that Alfa have decided on Tonale (CUV only) and cancelled the Giulietta (hatchback body style) but I digress!]

The collision systems turning off in direct sunlight is due to the brightness effectively blinding them. It's telling you "I can't see; you're on your own" just like if they got covered in grime. Let’s be real though, dumb baby monitor features like lane-keep assist not working is hardly a “reliability issue.” We should really think of “reliability” as “does it get me to where I need to go.” In which case, pretty much every modern combustion car will do as long as it’s not well over 100k miles and it’s being maintained. The reputation of Alfa Romeo’s being unreliable comes from when they left you stranded somewhere - THAT’S legitimate unreliability. But things like Lane-keep being broken is a feature, not a bug, because Alfa didn’t want to add it anyway, their boring exec bosses made them add it. That’s just another feature for sales people to convince your non-enthusiast spouse that it’s a special car… and you don’t correct them because you’re just happy your spouse is now on the same page as you about buying it. Alfa knows what’s up… Remove all these features, fuck the cup holders (figuratively of course), and drive!

Which is better to drive? And which would actually you purchase long-term? No leases. X1, GLB, Q3, Xc40, countryman, NX, or?

This should have been a Chrysler/ Alfa split, not Alfa dodge, with Chrysler getting a detuned economy version. Alfa would've been able to up the interior quality and wouldn't have to compete on a performance/price basis with the hornet, Dodge fans wouldn't get upset at its existence, and Chrysler would have a vehicle that actually fits their profile

Yeah this makes no sense being sold as an Alfa. People who typically would buy a luxury crossover probably don't care about Alfa as a brand, and the people who like Alfa probably don't care about crossovers much. I get it's supposed to be a product with mass appeal to introduce people to the brand, but it's just so dull.

Let's be real. In a Alfa Romeo, this is perfection. In a Dodge (the Hornet), that's terrible! However, I plan to buy myself a used Stelvio Quadrifoglio (2019 or 2021) or a brand new Tonale Veloce.

The Tonale seems okay to me but I hate Alfa Romeo’s new headlight design so much that it would be a deal breaker for me. And it’s not just on this car it’s on the new Stelvio and Giulia as well. I have the 2018 Stelvio and I like the headlights for it much better.
