Yuri, Steve McQueen was the poster boy for coolness. He was the real deal. Not just an actor, but a legit racer. And without traction control, anti-lock, etc. etc. Open your mind to understand and appreciate history and the people who were products of their times.
@rosewood1 Жыл бұрын
Absolutely Steve was a real racer. And you have to watch the movie. The action is real not CGI and to this day is still one of the very best driving sequences.
@moogle68 Жыл бұрын
The feeling of something in the moment is irreplaceable. I can watch Bullit as many times as I want, with as much contextual knowledge of Steve McQueen and the way society was when it was released, but it will *never* compare to being there when it happened, or being a _kid_ when it came out. I agree that Yuri and Jakub should know who Steve McQueen is and why he is important in car culture if they are going to be making a living doing car reviews for members of said car culture, but it's just unreasonable to expect newer generations to ever be able to fully appreciate events that were before their time. There is just too much context and sensory information that people constantly take in for someone to _truly_ understand and appreciate events that they were not alive to experience in person.
@texanfournow Жыл бұрын
@@moogle68 I agree with the gist of what you are saying. For me, it's more Yuri's & Jakub's dismissive attitude that bugs me. Apparently the folks at Ford thought that Bullitt was pretty special. They don't do that for just any film (thankfully).

You are car guys, watch the entire movie lol. Steve McQueen is a Legend. Lot's of interesting facts about that movie too. I think what Jakub said at the end is also very true about Bullit being a movie that not only has a car in a star role, but is deeply entrenched in car culture itself. Transformers is primarily seen as a kid show, so just because they made a live action + CGI blockbuster funded series of movies out of it, it's always going to have that sort of undertone of being "for kids". The transformers Camaro might do alright with hardcore transformers fans/collectors, but aside from that I don't see how it can hope to keep it's value like this Bullit has done so far.

It’s saddening when the younger generations compare Nicolas cage with Steve McQueen and the Bullitt car chase with fast and furious. It’s like comparing chalk and cheese and looking for similarities. The major differences apart from McQueen having a car built in his honour and not having to wear a hairpiece. He was not only as cool as they come. He grew up pretty much an orphan, was a US marine and wasn’t related to a director like Coppola to make it. The chase scene in Bullitt was a real chase on real streets and McQueen drove the car. In fact McQueen was the real deal racing motorcycles and cars. So much so that professional race drivers at Le Mans said McQueen was damn quick and could easily compete with the best drivers in the world. He competed in many motorcycle events placing as high as third. Due to his acting schedule he couldn’t apply himself as he would have wished, but was highly respected by the motorcycle racing fraternity as a competitive racer. There would also be no dodge red eye as the challenger was the bad guys car. They will not be building a car in honour of the fast and furious or Nicolas cage in 50 years. “Racing is life, everything before and after is just waiting” Steve McQueen the King Of Cool.

Steve McQueen was a great actor in many legendary movies. Papillon and the Great Escape plus others. Bullitt was not his best movie but a “first” in car chases. He was the ultimate cool actor before Clint Eastwood came along. Harrison Ford followed up. Now it’s Keanu Reaves?

Let me explain.... It wasn’t so much about the movie but more about the cars in the movie. The Mustang in the movie was a 68 Mustang GT 390FE big block and top loader 4 spd, it was the muscle car that the everyday guy could afford and wanted badly and in a drag race it could smoke any small block Shelby Mustang. As automotive reviewers you should really brush up on your car knowledge.
@andrewd75865 жыл бұрын
I am a VERY fortunate owner of a '68 GT390 FE Fastback big block here in Australia. It was made in San Jose in May 1968 & came off the same production line as the ORIGINAL "Bullitt" movie Mustangs. It was imported here in 2012 & it remains LHD. "Unfortunately" it is an auto but hey I'll live with that!😂I still smile from ear to ear every time I take it out. The looks it gets from young & old never ceases to amaze me. Each time I drive "Steve" I am almost cool 😎. And yes I bought the 2018 Mustang Bullitt.

I'm 30 years old grew up with old movies and I love watching anything from the 60s and back and Steve McQueen is an Ironic actor and the movie is a Classic! If they remake a car from an old movie then that definitely means something! I want this just because it's a Bullitt remake , i need a reviewer who will appreciate what the car is and its a classic remake! The new generation and my generation is to spoiled, they don't appreciate classic like this! The car is fire 🔥 and close to the orginal and Better! Here for car not the commentary!

Ok but Bullitt is a minor masterpiece and you guys should definitely watch it in full.

What makes this movie more iconic over all the others is how big it resonated to the car enthusiast as well as the general public at the time it came out and how long it held its status. You just don't get this with movies of today. Sure there are better car chases now, or more explosions etc now. But when Bullett came out, it set a benchmark for its time with some of the biggest names in Hollywood. Steve McQueen was the king of cool who never lost that image, as well he was a real race driver who just resonated with car enthusiasts. Nicolas Cage doesn't have the same weight today that Steve McQueen had back in his day. Most movies and car chases of today even if they are really good, seem to be more of a flavour of the month because they were done before. Kind of like Bruce Lee in Enter the Dragon, are there better martial arts fight scenes since that movie came out, yes, but none may be more iconic because when he did it, how iconic he became and how there had never been anything like it before. Will people talk about Gone in 60 Seconds with Nicolas Cage after almost 60 yrs?

@@TheStraightPipes But you have to consider all movies during or around this time. Bullitt was way ahead of its time. And the iconic chase scene was all in 1 take, in the real streets on SF, with no visual FX, and none of it was sped up like most other movies in the 60s. Steve McQueen is a movie and action star legend. Sure, he quit in 1969, but a man who did all his own stunts, and was well known as one of the best actors of the time, reminds me of an action star today...
@ATX_Engineer5 жыл бұрын
TheStraightPipes if you can’t grasp the nature of strong characters in 60’s movies, then you probably should just not talk about movies in general. Seriously, there are a LOT of people that consider Bullitt one of the original suspense crime dramas. Some of the scenes are just graphically brutal. Nick Cage? Jesus effing Christ, just stop

the recaro seats, video game-like digital dash, manual transmission, the bullit emblem on the steering wheel and rear, and extra 30 hp is why im choosing this car over the M4 CS. I prefer the look of the M4 CS but i would've been compromising so much more that I really didn't wanna look past.... while paying $10k + more

Love your videos and I’m about 60 years young. Do yourselves a big favor and do some research on Steve Mcqueen and his automotive exploits. He has owned some of the most relevant cars and motorcycles of all time. He was was also an accomplished car and motorcycle racer during his short life along with pilot and of course mega movie star. He was for many male and female, “cool”.

Sorry, but I couldn’t disagree more. The Bullitt Mustang is classy and subtle. Eleanor was gaudy and brash. You’re right, unfortunately Bullitt doesn’t resonate with this generation. It’s slow paced and you have to pay attention to catch the details as the plot unfolds. It’s a classic film with one of the greatest car chase scenes of all time. Steve McQueen is a legend. Coming from nothing and forging a career as one of Hollywood’s most iconic action stars. Not to mention one Hell of a driver in his own right. The new Bullitt pays homage to that legacy. It’s too bad people today don’t take the time to understand that.

The black Bullitt edt pays homage to the black dodge charger in the movie "BULLITT". The black Bullitt edt is more rare. That being said, I'd still get the green Bullitt edt.

I feel like the Black Bullitts pay homage to Ford knowing that some people aren't cool enough to get Highland Green and will lose sales if they don't offer alternate colors. The first Bullitt edition of 2001 came green, black, and BLUE!
