The thing with the same patterns for intervalls, no matter what basis they are on, and in extension the chords in the same fingering positions on the whole board, is just the same thing, which you can see in button accordions, but there we have the chromatic approach to this idea, and of course an other source for the tones

All those complex electronics and all the versatility of the piano for less than half the cost of a good piano, plus all the cool guitar tricks and sounds, and it’s being made one by one by a couple inventors. I expected $10,000. It’s $5,000. As more “yuppies” popularize it (I’ve never thought of Harry Connick Jr as a yuppie, lol), production can scale and prices can come down. In short, chill. :)

I'm a self taught piano accordion player. I do okay on the keyboard side, and on the bass side I especially love the clear layout and ability to transpose within the Stradella system. I never could hack the guitar - my left hand just doesn't work that way, not to mention guitar tuning anomalies. The Harpejji looks like a very intriguing alternative. Price point is about the same as a quality accordion and I would imagine it to be lower maintenance. I'm saving up for one of these. Thanks for the video!

Interesting instrument. I would suggest making all the pairs of C# and D# red to provide more visual landmarks. My eyes were "swimming" when looking at all the black and white squares. It reminded me of the board game "GO". I find the "tapping" instruments to all lack the emotional content that picking or plucking provide. Maybe there is a way to add a string or two that could be picked/plucked and then have those characteristics be added to the tapped notes.

Intersting instrument! How does it sound acoustically? Probably not like much, but would have been interesting to hear it. I'm also wondering how they're getting the long sustain, even when they're only tapping very lightly. I'm honestly not the biggest fan of the tapping sound (on any instrument expect distorted electric guitar), but this instrument definitely has some interesting possibilities!

The biggest issue I see with this instrument is that it's based around hammer-ons, a technique that has very limited tonal range & dynamics. It probably doesn't matter much if you're okay with generic-sounding electric guitars or electronic sounds in general, but if you want play pieces more towards the classical spectrum then this will often lack the qualities needed to give the music life.
@bveracka5 жыл бұрын
I agree. I really love classical guitar, as well as folk and blues music on steel string guitar. Both have the distinct advantage of playing the strings in a multitude of ways, which as you know creates a very diverse palette of tonal qualities, whereas this instrument is-as you rightly said-sort of locked into the tonal box that hammer-ons create. It's a cool design, no doubt, but it's impossible to outdo the guitar in versatility. The closest string instrument (that isn't a variation of the guitar) that ever came to doing that, in my opinion, is probably the concert Zither.

The layout for the notes on this instrument is nothing new; it's the Janko keyboard layout which was invented in the 1880's. Depressingly, it never caught on for the piano (probably due to piano manufacturers at the time not wanting to take risks), but attempts at reviving it are being made (look up the Lippens keyboard). It would truly be a much superior and easier to learn layout for piano players than the memorization mess we have currently, and I really do hope it catches on. I, for one, am hoping and praying the Lippens keyboard sees the light of commercial day, someday.
