In today's video, I'm looking at the Boss GAFC EX. The GAFC EX is the updated foot controller that you can use with a bunch of Boss products.

The GA-FC EX builds on the standard GA-FC with several enhanced features. Status LEDs with two colors make it easier to see changes when switching. And along with two dedicated expression pedal jacks, there’s an additional control jack with a three-way mode selector. Good stuff as always. You should mention though that the original gafc does all you've shown here with the v2 software in the amp :) No need to rush out and buy one unless you want to use 2 or control 2 amps (although artist models do that too)

I now have both - I was hoping you could link them and have 8 live presets - but on investigation - you can’t. So you are right - in most cases, unless you want 3 expression pedals - might as well stick with the GA-FC

A few questions. Can you connect another GA-FC to control the effects while using the 2 (or 3) expression pedals? Would it be beneficial to buy a second GA-FC-EX if you already have one or just go for a second normal one? Also, what are the names of the expression pedals in this video?

still don't get why you wouldn't just use the toe switch on the mission pedal to turn the pedal fx on/off? (instead of long pressing the effect knob followed by short pressing the other knob then remembering that you have to long press the effects again before you can do anything else)

The Katana is almost too much for me. I find myself sitting down, plugging in, and playing with the bazillion effects and parameters for 3 hours before I actually start playing. Not a bad thing! I love having this much power at my fingertips, but part of me is an old dinosaur that needs to be kept far away from modern technology! LOL

I built a pedal board, over 2020, that could compare to Mike Einziger's board. lol It had MOST of what I wanted, but everything I needed....and even could take the top level off for smaller gigs, cause I kept all the essentials on the top layer. (the board was double stacked haha). The amount that can be done with the Katana MKII and the GA-FC EX even has MY brain fried. I'm sure, after enough time and effort, I would be able to get it to muscle memory, but I'm confident that I'd only be using a couple effects for a while. lol

Interesting choice pairing the Suhr with the Katana. I always feel like my Katana sounds better with my single coil guitars. When I use my humbucker guitars with my Katana, even with coil splits, it seems to sound much darker and warmer than my other amps, which I don’t like the sound of. So I have to use an EQ to try and brighten it, but then I seem to lose a little clarity. When I use my single coil guitars with my Katana, I don’t seem to have that issue. Odd.

Try the guitar sim effect it simulates humbuckers with single coils or vice versa

When changing the channel (or patch..?), for example, CH2 has clean with reverb and CH3 has a distorted lead tone with reverb and delay, can it switch these channels back and forth seamlessly with "trail"..? or am I expecting too much for this price range..?

I just bought the katana and the ga fc ex. This pedal works like it's supposed to but for some reason my lights only turn red and not green. I have yet to hook it up to my computer, is that the reason perhaps?

That is apparently not yet a feature, according to Andy the Guitar Geek, but should be something Boss can put into a future upgrade.

When I got my MKII 100WATT about 18 moths ago, I thought the potential was fantastic. It is remarkable. But recently I was lucky enough to get a Blackstar HT20. I'm not kidding, it makes the Katana sound like it comes from Toys R Us. I'm selling my Katana and GFGC

Funnily enough, I have a Blackstar HT Club 40 mk 2 and I much prefer the tones I get out of my Katana Artist mk 2 - each to their own! Much more reliable to gig with as well - my Blackstar blows valves with monotonous regularity
