I don't think Thrawn fears Ahsoka but he definitely understands that Ahsoka will be completely unpredictable...much like her Master and not to be underestimated. Ahsoka comes from arguably the most loaded and unconventional line of Jedi ever (Her -> Anakin -> Obi-Wan -> Qui-Gon -> Dooku -> Yoda). Its definitely a wise decision to avoid engaging them as much as possible.

Its just nice to have a villain that doesn't underestimate or write off the heroes. He takes them seriously as a threat and does his best to counter them because he's seen them win before. So many times in fiction you see the antagonists do that and it makes you want to scream.

@@detroitmade6I’ve always been of the opinion that the Rebellion never had a chance of surviving against the entire might of the Empire for very long, and the idea of them achieving the type of victory they did was next to impossible statistically. The only reason the Rebellion managed to keep going and accomplish what it did was because it was the will of the Force making it happen. Palpatine and the Dark Side had totally fucked the balance so severely that it demanded correction. The Force brought that balance to fruition through helping the Rebellion along and especially ensuring the actions of Luke Skywalker

Just random thought not related to this video’s topic. Baylin gives that last bit of guidance to Shin, the ‘lack of patience leads to inevitable defeats’ part. I appreciate how Shin applied that lesson towards end of conflict with the REBELS. She could have stayed and pushed a fight but she chose to take an opportunity to flee. ...I think you might want to rewatch. You missed a lot of subtles of the acting. He never trusted Baylan. That was obvious. He was surprised by Ahosoka not afraid of her. Obviously, he is taking her threat seriously. That isn't fear. None of his actions are those of fear. They are careful calculated actions which give extreme caution to Force users. IMO, it just seems almost like you don't know what the word Fear means. He doesn't "Fear" and isn't "Terrified". Thrawn is cautious and calculated.

I have a fun theory. Ezra didn’t want to use his old light saber because it would call him out as a wielder of the darkside. Rebels explained that sabers use energy channeled from the wielder. Meaning he would need to bleed the crystal if used. He seemed too weak in episode 7’s battle; why didn’t Thrawn take him down much earlier?

I don't think Thrawn was terrified. But knowing she can use the Force is enough to put him on his guard. I figure that he anticipates that she'll manage to return to the Galaxy after leaving her and will make preparations for when she does. My theory for season two is that after getting an update on the galaxy and learning of Luke Skywalker, Thrawn will travel to Myrkr and collect the Ysalamiri as a means to counter Force users. "Her master was General Anakin Skywalker?" This could have been done better because he was very much aware that Anakin had an apprentice. Here's how it could have been done: Thrawn took the datapad, read it and cocked an eyebrow. "Ah," Thrawn said with amusement, "So this is the apprentice General Anakin Skywalker mentioned he had. ....Very interesting indeed."

There is a difference between fear and respect. "Knowing" that a tiger can rip you to shreds can instill a sense of both, but those who respect the tiger simply make sure its not in a position to "use" its natural advantages... Sometimes this means "run" until it falls into one of your traps. Even if the trap doesn't neutralize the tiger, it will indeed slow it down, hopefully enough that you don't end up on its immediate nom nom list. That being said, if Thrawn respects something, rest assured it has the potential to om nom him. And he will go out of his way to prevent this.

I think he is either just as afraid or more afraid of Baylan Skoll and his intentions. He at least knows Ahsoka's endgame. Baylan is a wild card. Irrational fear is a bad thing, rational fear is a good and healthy thing.

You pretty much nailed this assessment. Thrawn has used mines at hyperspace exit points before, so this is not a new tactic for him. I do not believe he used this to destroy a Jedi, but to give him notice when they arrived. Then he could work to destroy whomever it was based on their actions. Which is what he attempted to do with the artillery barrage. At this point his strategy was to use reactive tactics to zero in and destroy Ahsoka. Once he learned Anakin was involved in her training, his strategy changed to send a limited tactical deployment of troops towards Ahsoka's goal, Ezra. Hoping to gain a quick victory and put Ahsoka off center in hopes Baylan could finish her off. Again, Thrawn had to adjust his strategy once this didn't work. He lost Baylan and most of his deployed resources. However, he did gain a bit of time. Thus his strategy now is to delay and evade until they can collect the rest of the Night Sister's dead, connect Thrawn's ship to the ring ship, and blast away.

"The Ones" Theory: Baylan is answering a call. When fully answered, he will become The Son. Ahsoka is already on path to become The Daughter. Perhaps, (already theorized by others) Anakin would be The Father. A great story arc from Filoni's Clone Wars that I would love to see rectified after the tragedy of the last chapter that left a lack of balance in the force.

It wasn't fear at all. Thrawn showed rather decisive strategy. 1st of all keep in mind during his entire exile he was not able to capture nor eliminate Ezra. Secondly by attacking the Purgil he not only exposed Ahsoka but also removed the Purgil as a means of transportation. He knows by Ahsoka fleeing from his forces that she lacks the firepower to currently challenge him and having released Sabin he was able to not only flush out Ezra but also test Balan and Shin which could have gone better were they more reliable. Having failed him they immediately became expendable removing another problem. This he managed all while achieving his only real goal which was the time he needed to prepare to leave them all behind to die in exile. Even should they manage to once again discover a means to jump galaxies by that time he would have already amassed a fleet to challenge the new Republic. In short, they are not even in his way anymore. So what is there to fear exactly?

Thrawn fears Ahsoka, because in his mind being that She is Anakin's apprentice Thrawn knows that Ahsoka is more than capable of wielding both light and dark side of the force just as Anakin does and I think that is what he is most scared of that she could be just as powerful and unpredictable just as Anakin was not to mention very strategic and knows what it takes to win. But unlike her master she embodies the light she is neither light nor dark but neutral.

I would say that "fear" is not a correct word to apply to Thrawn regarding Ahsoka or the other force-sensitives; rather, he has a healthy RESPECT for the Force and its most prominent wielders in much the same manner that a zookeeper has for the pride of lions he feeds and cares for. "Fear" is not relevant to Thrawn's thinking in this case; EVERYTHING he considers is about how to best achieve his goals while preventing regrettable losses. That's not the same thing as fear- that's just Pragmatism. Thrawn is REALISTIC about the Force and its users- he knows that some can be helpful to him, others the opposite, and that he himself is somewhere in the middle being unable to perceive or directly use it himself. So, so many other Imperials were NOT realistic that way- they dismissed the Force as "that Ancient Religion" and just wrote off anybody who believed in it or tried to practice it. Thrawn is different- he KNOWS it's real. He USES it where and when he can. And he watches potential opponents who can directly use it Very, Very, Carefully. That's not Fear. That's Tactical.

I don't think it is a genuine "fear" of Ahsoka. Thrawn's biggest success comes from his intelligence, knowledge of his enemy. And this is why I think it's not a fear, it's a state of extreme caution. He spends his time deploying countermeasures to waste Ahsokas time, not to defeat, but to flee.

The way I see things playing out in the last episode is Thrawn is able to likely just barely make his escape back to the Star Wars galaxy. By using what Baylan is doing as a distraction. I bet you Ahsoka will go after Baylan, and not having Ahsoka's backup leads to Thrawn getting away.

He doesn't fear Ahsoka. He fears her plot armor. Yes, she is powerfull and unconventionnal but she isn't all powerfull. The only thing stopping Thrawn to pulverized Ahsoka is plot armor and how the writer dumbed him down to give Ahsoka a chance to survive. Thrawn send 2 TIE to blow up Ahsoka. They have the time to make two runs but they only damaged the engines. How could they miss an almost stationary target TWO times in a row ? And rather than to put up your arms in front of your head when something will colide with you, why don't you try to evade ? Are their pilots that bad ? Did Thrawn forget to make them train (in simulator if fuel was a problem) ? After that, Thrawn get the rapport of the event. He knows Ahsoka and Co. are grounded. What did he do ? He sent a ground force against Jedi who are obviously skilled at ground fights. At this time, he can just send a TIE blow then up from high altitude where Ahsoka couldn't do a thing about it. Then the TIE come back for the departure. Zero risk for Thrawn, just a bit of fuel used but 3 threats eliminated. If he prefers to keep his TIE, fine. But why would he let the tower open ? I mean he just shuts the doors. He has nothing left in there and he has to block the way. Why didn't he collapse the tunnels ? You could even rig the explosives to cave in the tower on the head of Ahsoka and Co. It would definetly prevent Ahsoka to come through and he wouldn't have to send Morgan and some of his men fighting her. So he keeps more of his men alive while still blocking Ahsoka. Her only remaining option would then be to scale the Tower from the outside where she would be exposed to the destroyer's turbolaser and that would make her lose far more time than go through the tunnels. If he want to be extra cautious, why not prepare for immediate deaparture far before Ahsoka arrival ? He could lock the eye to his destroyer from the beginning. He could load the last coffins from shuttles to place his destroyer in high altitude where he is sure Ahsoka couldn't reach it since he grounded them. Also, Thrawn acted like he won by leaving Ahsoka in another galaxy. But he knew purrgils have already help them twice (Ezra in rebels and Ahsoka a few episodes before). So Ahsoka remains a threat, he just don't know when she will reappear. Yes, his primary goal was to return to the galaxy. But he didn't had to go out of his way to eliminate 3 threats who have already proven they can be very much dangerous to his plans.

Off hand, I'd say it's because she was trained by both Anakin and Vader! She is Balance...but with blades! If Ahsoka gets pissed enough at Thrawn, she could bring down the Chimera!

I think Thrawn realizes just how screwed he would be if Ahsoka got up close and figured out what he is doing. he is smart to keep her at arms' length, but that wont last (mostly cause theres only one more episode.). Ezra out the fear of God in him, but he pbviously learned from that. this last episode is gonna be a barn burner! :)

I wouldn’t say he’s afraid more like testing the waters, like in DC comic movies when Batman fights someone far more powerful than himself he’ll throw everything and the kitchen sink it them in order to test when tactics may work and what may not and I feel Thrawn is doing the same he doesn’t understand the force nor the new generation of Jedi so he’s testing to see what tactics with work on them and what won’t while also making sure he can leave without any issues, he’s playing a huge game of chess while everyone is playing checkers (also I admit I might be reading to much into this but hey whatca gonna do)

Yup I agree with you thrawn was smart to let them find Ezra an Sabine and fight in order to have them just wasting there time on some worthless fight , that fight gives him time to finish. Loading his cargo , by the time Ahsoka an the crew realize it thrawn will be on his way home , I hope he doze for Sabine being so stupid in not telling Ezra what really happen'ed and that she ruined his 10 year scrafice I can't wait to see what he does if he doesn't get really pissed off I'm going to be very disappointed !!

That was his first “oh shit” moment. And in legends and cannon. Thrawn is one of the few people who knew Vaders true identity. And Anakin was the only Jedi Thrawn actually respected because he did what was necessary to win.
