I think part of why Luke is so powerful in Legends is because he is mostly self-taught, and doesn't think something is impossible, because no Jedi is telling him that it can't be done. He achieves things thought to be impossible because he stopped thinking things were impossible.

@@mewtwo389 I believe it wasn't the Jedi's last chance, the whole time it is the force. Jedi are (for the most part) willing servants of the force. Sith/Dark Jedi believe they bend force to their will but (again), I believe they are also unknowing slaves to it. Whenever one side of the force grows too strong or has "cleared the galaxy" of the opposing side, the force will create one who can at least begin to return the itself back to balance. I also think that the Force operates at close to a galactic time scale.

Luke honestly should be considered more powerful, even in canon. My reasoning behind this, is because Anakin had actual masters and years of training. Where as Luke only had Obi Wan partially and Yoda. But had to learn on his own and face the strongest dark side force user ever, and the Emperor.

One thing that's never discussed is the traits Luke and Leia inherited from their mother, Padme. They're always only ever compared to their father. Padme gave them compassion and cooler heads than Anakin had. I think her traits suppressed the inner rage that Anakin experienced.

I kind of feel like there is nothing wrong with a slave resenting their master. Let's not forget Anakin was a slave his entire life, from his days with Watto, to being emotionally abused by his masters at the Jedi Temple and everything with Palpatine. The guy never had a chance. Luke at least grew up and spent his formative years in a loving environment.

No doubt. And Anakin’s experience as a slave left him emotionally stunted, impulsive and angry. Luke basically grew up in a working class household. His fam wasn’t rich but it was healthy and stable. He also inherited a lot of Padme’s personality traits. Padme was a rich kid, straight up, but she was never afflicted with affluenza. She was genuinely selfless, warm, compassionate & patient. And she didn’t regard her royal and political obligations as a burden. Temperamentally speaking, I think Luke takes after his mother more than his sister does. Not shitting on Leia, btw. Leia’s awesome, but she’s got a much shorter temper than Luke.

Ok so great vid btw I definitely agree with all the points you made. But if Luke And Anakin we’re to duel one another I feel like Luke would come out on top. Not because he was more powerful, but because of being level headed unlike Anakin who was more brash. Another thing to add if Anakin was fighting for someone say for example Padme or Obi Wan his anger would most likely over power and overwhelm Luke. Similarly how we saw in Return of the Jedi how Luke used his anger to defeat Vader. However he was able to come back and maintain in the light. It is important to note Anakin had way more potential then Luke being the chosen one and many people think it was Luke, but I’m reality it was Anakin because he did in the end bring balance to the force. But aside from that if Anakin were to meet his full potential he would beat legends Luke no contest being the chosen one.

I can answer that without even watching the video. The disabled war veteran whose very close association with so many other Jedi exposed him to the unique perspectives, wisdoms, and techniques that he no doubt added to his own repertoire. Anakin was already proficient with the Force some 14 years before Luke was even born. His experience in war and association among his peers is monolithic in size, compared to anything Luke can dream of. And he let Luke know that in Empire Strikes Back when he did to Luke exactly what Dooku had earlier done to him, to Anakin. Anakin lost a lot when lost his legs and arm, and he's nothing at all as Vader as he was as Anakin. But he's still much more experienced and wiser with the Force than Luke, except for that mistaken thinking that the Darkside makes you stronger. Luke would never stand a chance.

Anyone suggesting that Anakin was more powerful, from a Midichlorians standpoint maybe (yet, they nearly had similar M points, some theories even claim: even), but since Anakin does not have the complete focus for peace and comfort for everybody, would give Luke always the edge because the Force assists those for the greater good than the opponent. Luke would spark Light side Force energy and overcome any opponent. He mastered all techniques and gained all the wisdom of the Jedi, and even revolutionised certain basis of the Jedi (which corrupted the Jedi Counsel).

About the Throne Room scene in Return of the Jedi. Too many water down this duel. Both Anakin and Luke were conflicted. The thing was that Vader had to suppress his true feelings from the Emperor, which meant that he could not draw as strongly from the Darkside. Suppressing that some of Anakin, the Lightside and his love for family still existed within him. While Luke was often visibly an emotional basket case, which allowed him to pull strength variously from both the Lightside and the Darkside. Which ultimately enabled him to defeat Vader in combat. Both believed that they knew going in that the goal of the other was to turn the them to their side and then defeat the Emperor. But both feared the repercussions if the miscalculated each other or the Emperor’s retaliation. And aside from his life (it’s lose would have been a release from this orment) and station of power, Vader only had his son to lose, while it has been plainly obvious to everyone who’s ever seen the movie everything that Luke feared to lose since the movie’s original release. Ultimately, the pressure was higher for Luke, than Vader.

In both legends and canon I'd say Luke was more powerful, more skilled, and a better person. However if Anikin hadn't been injured by Obi-Wan shortly after becoming Darth Vader I definitely think Darth Vader (uninjured) would have been more powerful in the force and a better fighter than Luke. It would be interesting to see a what if scenario though because if a few things changed it could change everything. Who knows what a more powerful Darth Vader would inspire Luke to achieve. They might have even just become more powerful equals.

I think Luke was more inclined in the force later in life, however if you take ROTS Anakin v ROTJ Luke and let them 1v1. Anakin wins, easily. Anakin was much more battle tested, literally carried the republic on his back during the clone wars. Saved Obi Wan 9 times from death. Killed a Sith Lord in Dooku. Straight abused Dooku. Anakin had the potential to be a force God. And he was rivaling Yoda as a padawan in Attack of the clones with his saber combat.

Anakin had 100% more potential but it was all burned away after his duel with Obi. After a few short years he was able to beat his dad with only basic training from two masters and reading Obi's journal. In legends only Abeloth was vastly more powerful.

I choose Anakin. His growth was incredible, during his Jedi training. Plus he had immense experience as one of the most accomplished generals during Clone Wars. Was also very skilled with lightsaber, at the end of Clone Wars only Yoda, Windu and Kenobi (questionable, given that in their fight on Mustafar Vader defeated himself because he wasn't concentrated and was too impatient-had he been more patient he would eventually shatter Kenobi's defenses no doubt about it). One novel even stated that the Force was so strong in Anakin that he, when meditating, would feel the Force burning inside him hot as the sun and he simply couldn't control it, thus he focused more on psychical aspects of the Force). If Qui Gon trained Anakin, I honestly think that he would reach his full potential, and would be able to beat Yoda and Sidious simultaneously.

Recommend you reconsider your use of the word "prodigal" when describing Luke Skywalker as the "prodigal son". Prodigal does not mean unknown. It means "wasteful", like the Biblical son who squandered his father's wealth (running away to a foreign country was just him getting to a place where he could engage in "wild living" a la Los Vegas. I would describe Vader as the "prodigal father" who squandered his gifts, but was forgiven and redeemed by a righteous son.

Anakin Skywalker was born to the most of powerful Jedi. He is literally the son of force. The thing is, he chose a path that lead him to his own destruction and he failed to attain his maximum potential. He lost his arm in Attack of Clones. Then he got burnt in Revenge of the Sith. Many of his force abilities were lost and he couldn't become as powerful as he was supposed to be. Even the Emperor knew that Anakin Skywalker would become more powerful than him if he hadn't lost many of his force abilities. Luke Skywalker, son of Anakin Skywalker, inherited many of Anakin's force powers, but his max potential was nowhere close to Anakin's max potential (when he wasn't injured). Luke managed to reach his max potential without many injuries and he became more powerful than Anakin because of how damaged Anakin was.

There was game a mechanic in the WotC d20 Star Wars RPG for determining penalties to Force powers for characters that had become more machine than man. I don’t think they would have included it if Lucas hadn’t clearly stated that after Mustafar Anakin’s physical trauma had reduced his raw potential from twice that of Palpatine’s (I’m quoting George Lucas here-Don’t shoot the messenger) to about 80% of the Emperor’s. There was definitely a correlation between relative bodily integrity & Force potential. I thought the game mechanic was a little too reductionist. Force-sensitive characters with cybernetic bits took a hit to skill checks on Force Powers for every robot bit they added. I think the max penalty was -8. That’s probably too reductive but it did seem pretty clear both in canon & in legends that being “more machine than man” hindered one’s Force capabilities. My sense/take was that prosthetics usually interfere more with Light Side powers than neutral & Dark Side powers, broadly speaking. Darth Maul’s Force powers, for instance, didn’t appear to be depleted at all after Mother Talzin gave him a makeover after he’d become half the man he used to be. It probably helped that Maul’s Force skills weren’t all that sophisticated for the mover part

its a good question, but when it comes to using the force luke beats ankien no question asked, i can think of one instance aniken is on the same lvl or beats luke and that is during the son and daughter stuff on mortes. but other than that luke wins no question asked. we see in some books how stronge luke is in the force, he trickst jason solo (darth caides at that point) with his illusion and caides was a realy powerfull sith lord, and he had no idea AT ALL that he was beeing tricked by luke at that point. another example is afther learning walking beyond shadow while luke and ben is ambushed by the sith, luke is at that point weakend from beeing beyond shadow for so long, but are still able to fight the strick team, exampels from a luke thats like 20 years younger than this to is during the radioshow/books that is set afther the thron triology where he is able to use the force to stop whats sounds like some realy tall walkers, and if i dont remember wrong also able to use the force to get a star destroyer to crash in a safe way that dident kill all the people onbord him and lando beeing onbord of it. and ofc it is the dark holl mentioned in this video.

Luke was a true Jedi through and through. However Anakin was more powerful. If he had reached his full potential he would have become almost godlike. Anakin was selfish and chose to fight for the happiness of himself and those close to him rather than look at the bigger picture whereas Luke obviously cared but always put the galaxy first. It would have been interesting to see what would have happened if Anakin hadn’t betrayed the Jedi order or fell to the dark side. Maybe he could have even saved the order. Who knows?

Anakin was born of the force and has the highest midichlorian count possible. Unfortunately, he lacks restraint. He is raw power with limited control. Luke possessed less raw power, but had much more control. We can thank Padme for that.

Thing is, this is all legends based. Now granted both Legends and new Canon deviate from the original vision of George Lucas, Canon was created by Kathleen Kennedy and Dave Filoni, who George choose to continue that legacy. Legends has always felt to me like fan fiction that was allowed because Lucas needed money. Where Canon has felt like George Lucas asking the two creators to continue his story (regardless of how well you feel Kennedy has done).

Like you said if it wasn't for anakin foolish pride and fear he would win without question but Luke being humble and less arrogant makes him superior despite anakin having raw power.

Kinda hard to vote. On one hand Anakin was mad powerful in ROTS and TCW. So much so that Obi Wan had to run from him just to beat him. On the other hand Luke was no joke in ROTJ either. He clearly learned from his massive loss against Vader in ESB. So again...hard to vote. Both are power force users.

Luke was ultimately more powerful This is because Anakin was essentially polarised. He was either light as Anakin or dark as Vader. Luke was more of a grey jedi because of this and able to draw on the passion for good without repercussion whereas Anakin's draw on his passion for love ultimately guided down the dark path and into absolutes.

Luke. Anakin is a cautionary tale, and my probably my favourite character because of his arc, but Luke is equally a favourite because of his. They are intertwined in their fate because Anakin bound them to it. Without his fall to darkness, he would never have been able to fulfill the prophecy. Equally, Luke could never have ultimately achieved what he did in the Force, or fix the Jedi had Anakin not effectively been a reset button.

People always think the sith are more powerful but they always lose. The Jedis devotion and servitude gives them power. Anakin never learned that. Luke did. That’s what makes Luke stronger.

Potential is only the perceived utmost height one can obtain. In the discussion of potential and specifically in this case that of Anakin, even if he defeats Obi-Wan it is assumed that Anakin would continue to explore and reach his maximum potential. Now let’s say that Anakin does best Obi-Wan in battle and then goes on to beat Palpatine does he still push himself to his greatest limits. I am a child of the 70’s and watched a lot of basketball so I will pose it in an analogy this way does Anakin have the mindset of a Kobe Bryant? Does he continue to push his limits in a way that leads him to gain everything out of his talent or potential? Or is rather a Shaquille O’Neal who had far greater potential but once he slew his perceived dragons he begins to then coast. Anakin seems to be much more a natural Shaq. It was the taste of defeat to Obi-Wan that caused him to then explore the fullness of his now lessened potential. Luke I believe will always be superior because he never was supposed to be the guy. He had tons of physical potential while maybe not the full potential of his father… but copious natural potential and a mindset that in order to be on the level of others he had better make his mental monsters to practice to slay so that when those monsters showed their faces, he was on par or at least practiced enough to be able to continuously reach his next level of his natural potential. He had more inner drive than the “Chosen one” because he never was supposed to be close to that, yet had the latent potential and drive to be close and therefore maximized what he had.

Anakin lost much more than 20% of his potential when he got cut down on Mustafar. His potential got reduced to 80% of Sidius, Anakin's full potential was maybe 150%-200% of Sidius

Anakin spent his developing years fighting. He is a better duelist. Luke spent his years training to be connected to the force. He is a better force wielder. Their potential are same and Luke is more of a fast and better learner (Luke managed to beat Darth Vader in the age of 23 and Darth Vader was not holding back) so therefore, Luke Skywalker is the better one. I think Luke is more powerful. 1. Unlike Anakin, he took to heart one important lesson from Yoda, when Yoda saved his X-Wing. Luke said, "I don't believe it ". Yoda replied,"that is why you failed". From a training stand, victory goes to Luke. Anakin, up until his defeat, spent, 14 years training with the Jedi and fighting in the Clone Wars. However, Luke was self-taught and did his training in only 3 years. The average Jedi took 18-20 years to complete training. However, the fact Luke did it in 3, makes him the most powerful Jedi ever

In a battle one on one you have to say anakins lightsaber dueling is better. On the other hand Luke becomes more powerful without restrictions. That being said I think it would come down to lightsabers.

The way I see it, Luke is was Anakin could have been. Anakin was arrogant and was forced to deny the dark side as subject to destiny, while Luke was humble, and forged his own destiny by accepting both sides of the force Edit: typo

No matter what anyone says, it's 100% Anakin.... He has exponentially more first-hand experience, far more structured instruction and training, and he fought through and survived an entire war, while additionally dueling a sith lord and several dark side users. Luke got to duel Vader, who held back... lol Luke is working with scraps.

I always considered Luke to be about 19 or 20 at the beginning of episode 4.
