*I am a Jedi, like my father before me.* I truly believe it was those words and those words alone which broke the spell that Darth Vader held over Anakin Skywalker for all those years. It’s just another moment that shows how wrong Siddius, Yoda, Vader and even Obi-Wan were in two specific ways. They were all wrong in not seeing that Anakin was still there buried beneath the anger, hurt and pain. But most of all Vader, Siddius, and Yoda were completely wrong in the assumption that Luke was just like his father. He wasn’t Anakin, he wasn’t Padme either, he was Luke and he may well have been the best of Anakin and Padme.
@FrostedSeagull Жыл бұрын
Yoda wasn't wrong. He was testing Luke's resolve. Within a few minutes after telling the Obi-Wan force ghost he's too impetuous to train, Luke comes out with his one and only real gift: ' I am NOT afraid " His Father Anakin could not let go of fear. Again, Yoda knew this. That is why Yoda never wanted the 10 year old Anakin trained as a Jedi. Remember Yoda's fateful words that became a self fulfilling prophecy. Words to this effect: Clouded this boys future is. Much fear in him. Yoda got it right immediately. However, the arrogant Jedi Masters were ambivalent and sucked in by Sidious's distractions. As a Tibetan Master once said to me: The brightest light casts the darkest shadow. If you are standing out in the open on a cloudless day with a bright, sun filled day. Where does one cast the darkest shadow ?

Ever since Luke found out of Vader is his real father Luke knew he had to save him. Maybe not at the beginning when they had their discussions, but after he grew in the force and understood the really problems of the old Jedi Order he knew he could help him turn back to whom he truly was Anakin Skywalker.

"from a certain point of view" Luke did strike down Vader. By showing mercy, that after everything his own son still loved him, saw all his failings and still chose mercy, love and compassion. And Anakin couldn't stand there as the very thing that padme died to bring into this galaxy was about to be destroyed.
@InfiniteNaos Жыл бұрын
@@JeffreyWilliams-qv5kp This is agreeable. Luke was the only person to show compassion to Vader. Now in disney canon Anakin heard Obiwan apologize, but Vader kept going wanting to destroy him. Even in moments of Rebels, Ashoka telling Anakin she won’t leave yet Vader once again taking over. Out of every Jedi Vader has battled Luke not only was the last thread to redemption but the only person who was still merciful to both Vader and Anakin despite everything the Sith Lord did through the 20 years of the Empire.
@piotrkijak17742 ай бұрын
@@InfiniteNaos Ashoka was actually Anakin in full control. He controlled his dark side and knew not to hurt her, that was part of lesson to fight and to forget her fears because it is what makes her weaker as a Jedi but also brings closer to dark side and also makes her acknowledge everyone makes mistakes and Anakin made that mistake secondhand. Just that he now has all the knowledge as force ghost and especially the power as he became like all the Jedi's part of the Force forever.
@InfiniteNaos2 ай бұрын
@@piotrkijak1774 Oh you’re speaking on the Ahsoka season. Oh that’s true. Anakin wasn’t going to kill Ahsoka, but he was pushing her to be something more as she kept her mind in the past of what the Jedi of old did to her by almost ousting after their court affairs then was taken to the Senate to be executed. She kept dwelling on that despite still helping people the best that she could during Rebels, during the New Republic, and into the Mandalorian era. When Ahsoka was defeated by Baylan Skoll and nearly drowned on that planet Anakin saved her. They reconvened, he looked into her past about he literally being a child of war similar to Anakin as both were thrusted into combat that they didn’t have a voice in, both had to grow up very fast, but after that incident with Bariss being the traitor she kept that feeling of abandonment. Up until Rebels when she told Anakin, while Vader, “I won’t leave you…..not this time!” “Then you will die!” Vader still under orders to kill Ahsoka had she not complied, but back to her personal fight with Anakin his way of teaching is through brute force just like Obiwan’s way of teaching is more delicate and reserved or even how both Count Dooku and Qui Gon Jinm’s methods of teaching are more about discipline and correction. That’s why Anakin took his time pushing Ahsoka in a direction of either continuing to loath about the past or move on be something greater! That’s when we saw those white robes and how her demeanor changed after that clash with Anakin in the World between Worlds. She became a better Jedi through reevaluation while in Legends Luke became a better Jedi through real trials and heavy hardship almost like his father did during the Clone Wars.

One other item to point out. Tatooine raised Luke was unprepared as Bespin but far more powerful on the second Death Star, powerful enough to impose fear on Vader. That would also mean that young Anakin could have stayed with his mother on Tatooine and protected her and still achieve great powers in the Force. That could have added to Vader's regret.

Yes, Luke had the Force as a Grandfather. He had the Force running in his veins. Luke at full potential would be more powerful than even Sidious, something that Sidious had foreseen, as he told Vader. Also, Luke was his mother's son, someone that even Sidious was afraid of in the political sphere. Luke had been raised with love, but he did not react with anger when he lost them. Also, Padme chose death instead of joining the Separatists, as she considered them traitors, and Luke chose death over power and joining Vader. Also, Luke's lack of training and knowledge of the Jedi ways and his father's history is part of what saved both of them in the end. Betraying and driving the last of the Jedi into hiding, and not being raised by the Jedi allowed Luke to see through the hypocrisy of the Jedi and their mistakes and choose to act how one believes and feels. All things Yoda's Jedi Order forbid. Destroying the Jedi was the only way it could rise again with more honest believes, destroy the Sith and redeem Anakin. In the end Sideous destroyed the Sith twice! His attempts to get utter power, finally led to his death! First by his 'best friend' and second by his own granddaughter! All in the master plan for power!

Luke being able to bring down Vader without becoming like him is something that sets him apart from everyone else and makes him the galaxy’s true savior. I think Vader was scared. It was also everything combined. Age,conflict,which is most important but also fear. He knew Luke's power,what he can achieve. And possibly will. He also knew Luke loves him. And Vader truly loves him. We feel this when he's standing on the bridge on Endor. Or when he's speaking to his son earlier. Luke deeply and truly loved his father. He gave Vader love and compassion. Just like Padme. That's the only thing he had of her-their child. Leia is there too,but it's not about her. When Luke threw away his lightsaber and announced himself as Jedi,and his father is what returned Anakiin. He felt great pride and I'm sure joy for Luke. He reminded himself why he loved it. That was crucial moment. That gave Anakin strength and will to attack Palpatine and throw him down to the reactor core. Great analysis. May the Force be with you too😊

I had to rewind back, but it's not a perfect recreation of the scene on the Death Star, as the lightsaber is Anakin's Blue saber not the Green saber Luke would go onto create. While this can be chalked up to Vader simply not knowing of Luke's lightsaber, I think this is significant as it shows Vader the vision itself is not 100% accurate and goes onto explain why Vader was so intrigued by Luke's tool.

If fans could just get that the only things that are truly canon are the films. And you can make a case that anything after Lucas sold to Disney is fan fiction. I personally really like the sequel trilogy and Rogue One. But as Star Wars is George Lucas’s creation, anything after? Accept if you enjoy it. And if you don’t? Well, all I’ll say is that as a 55 year old who’s been hooked since that Star Destroyer flew overhead for what seemed like forever back when I was 9 years old, I am thrilled that there are stories from that world still being told. Do I wish they could all be as good as Rogue One or Andor? Of course. But it’s still fun to have new material. But thinking that lightning will truly strike again and we’ll get a culture defining effect from new Star Wars? No, that’s not in the cards. The next thing to cement itself in culture for all time is still a mystery to come…
