In Legends Dooku as a Jedi And Sith was a very high midichlorian counted person which is one of the reasons Yoda wanted to train him one on one Yoda thinking a child Dookus potential in the force was enigmatic even for himself to comprehend while Yoda did not see this same potential in a child Mace nor anyone else except Anakin but the difference is Anakin was brought to the order later in life then usual and his count was the only one higher then Yodas own while Dookus was implied to be the third highest after Yoda with Mace being the fourth and Plo Koon being the fifth etc yeah.

Dooku only experienced "success" because Yoda was initially holding back, but once he saw his former Padawan was pretty much going all out and was trying to finish Yoda, he let him know he was about to get serious, thus the reason Dooku had to distract him by endangering Kenobi and Skywalker. Also, Palpatine didn't put away his lightsaber, Yoda disarmed him. This wasn't shown on screen but was referenced in the ROTS novel. Yoda is SO GOOD that when Mace once said Yoda should spar Quinlan Vos to keep up his prowess, Yoda said he already had a "sparring session" against Dooku. Thus, Dooku is not equal to Yoda.

They were in their 80s while Yoda was ten times older than them. The fact Dooku was at the precipice of Yoda's power made him a clear threat. What made Dooku so dangerous is how open minded he was. Willing to learn from both sides of the force and even admired Grievous for a moment. He had the teachings of both Yoda and Palpatine and could he use the dark side of the force to lenghten his life he could have surpassed them.

I would like to add a small take to this topic in regards to another reason why Darth Sidious in particular was afraid of Yoda, that I believe no one has brought up which is Sidious also recognizes that Yoda too is also playing the helpless old man role, the same as he is to keep the might of his power a secret so Sidious is fearful of the full power that Yoda is hiding because if that power is to much. Perfectly analyzed. Dooku completely acknowledges Yoda's power. He never underestimates Yoda for a moment. Palpatine respects Yoda in a way. Loosely as you said. He would admit Yoda is superior duelist but he would give arrogant speech before about lightsaber"i don't need it,i'm beyond that,it's Jedi weapon"because this is what he is. But he would admit it.Everything about their duels is clear,how they see each other. Palpatine sees Yoda as his light side counterpart. And he is. And they try to destroy one another. Great discussion video, but something that can't be ignored is the fact that Dooku in Revenge of the Sith is given clear instructions by Sidious to "Take it easy on Skywalker", this is a significant reason as to why Anakin manages to kill Dooku by the time Dooku had to get serious he had already lost the duel with Anakin.

@@newhybrid101 you're absolutely right, but momentum plays an important role in a lightsaber duel, and lightsaber combat in general more so with form 5 of lightsaber combat where once they have the momentum it's near impossible for someone to retrieve it from a Djem/So practitioner, it's even more daunting for a Makashi user as a big weakness for the form that not even Dooku could compensate for was it's lack of momentum gaining abilities, so much so that if for whatever reason a Makashi user lost their momentum that's pretty much the duel.

And let's not forget that Dooku trained General Grievous, so if we are talking about Yoda or Sidious fearing Grievous, they are indirectly fearing Dooku. On the ABC logic, by that train of thought, Dooku beat Anakin in Attack of the Clones and in at least two Clone Wars episodes... and if he had actually wanted to kill him, Anakin would be dead already long before Revenge of the Sith. We know why he did not kill him then, and fortunately, Anakin had time to learn. 😁 Dooku in his prime would have been quite the adversary for Anakin... and while I am not sure he'd have beat Anakin in his prime and most powerful, I think it would be very close duel. I agree that Yoda has seen for decades how good Dooku can be, so I don't think he is surprised by Dooku's skills in the stalemate.

Dooku had to run in the end with his fight against Yoda. Yoda with his Ataru form was hammering down with acrobatic force blows that kept Dooku on the defensive, and when Yoda just reflected and absorbed Dooku's darkside lighting force attacks, he broke out and bounced! Palpatine may have been surprised at his saber ability being not the most supreme himself, Mace Windu took him out fairly easy so I can see why he may have been shook a bit.

Dooku didn't fight lightsaber combat using The Dark Side, that was purely just Dooku's IMMENSE skill. That's why Mace knew Dooku was his equal or knew was his superior, Vaapad wouldn't work with Dooku. Dooku dueled Yoda to a draw, he could do the same with Sidious (my favorite character). Dooku was one of, if not the best natural duelists Star Wars has ever talked about next to Tulak Hord (Sith).

Think, that the only thing that actually surprised and terrified Dooku and Sidious about Yoda is the fact, that he can so easily deflected force lightening and send it back at the dark side user of it with ease. Something that barely any other light side master are generally capable of pulling off.

What I would have loved to see, though I don’t think it’s canon anymore, is Yoda repeating the moment from… some Dooku-centered novel (I haven’t read, I’ve just seen your videos talking about it, so apologies if I can’t cite it) where Dooku is trying to talk Yoda to the Dark Side, and for just a moment, Yoda allows himself to lose control. And then he’s done with the whole experiment and becomes a light-wider again, and that brief moment alone terrifies Dooku. Imagine Yoda going dark-side for just a moment during his fight with Siddious. Not even using the dark side to do anything, just… flexing real hard to throw Siddious off his game a bit, then getting light-side and finishing the fight. Given how Yoda later tells Luke that the Dark Side will forever dominate your path, it’s probably better that the book is no longer canon… Yoda can’t be THAT against the dark side if he’d briefly tried it on before. He literally has personal experience that one can be dark and then revert to the light.

So… about 1/3 of the way through this video, it’s occurring to me that everything I’ve heard was all in-universe lore. Which is fine. But I also am thinking of the IRL stuff. The Siddious duels in Revenge of the Sith were all kind of goofy, because mcDairmid is an old man who wasn’t expecting to be doing a lot of stunts. Not that Christopher Lee is a young buck, but McDairmid was trying to pull off the 7th form, and Lee was doing 2nd form. But more importantly, they were both fighting against a CGI Yoda. So, on the one hand, they could put CGI Yoda ANYWHERE, but on the other hand, the flesh actors had to sword fight with empty air. And also, in Anakin vs. Dooku, Dooku was told to string Anakin along and anger him, to push him more to the dark side. I am not convinced that Anakin could have beaten Dooku, if Dooku were being serious.

Dooku is a master fencer who will have refined his techniques to what he is now, the original intent is to use against sith when he was still in the Jedi order, maybe saber and rapier style fencing and absolutely Dooku is deflecting, yet he isn't used to Anakin's immense power strikes of Djem so and Ataru Mix, Dooku can take on multiple opponents and set them apart, Dooku knows Ataru's inside and out of Qui-gon Jinn's style and the normal Ataru done by human, and trained in less than meter tall jedi. (this is an example of what he is used to and how he will function in those superplay ) Yoda's offense is going to be insane, he is all around like 3 Jedi knights using flurry of attacks at once or 4 Jedi attack at once. I guess Yoda's hits per second is probably 6 or 7 naturally without the force and without exhaustion. Perhaps Yoda can absolutely parkour as tight as he can move even in 0.47 meters of space around a T-posing stilts or 175 centimeter human for fun. Match-ups really matters and the condition of the characters.

Yoda's success as a duelist comes down to 3 things; Time Spent Studying, Mana Regeneration, and something I call the "South Park 64" Rule. Study Time: Yoda has had nearly 900 years to master his swordsmanship. Even if he only spent 30 minutes a day training, after about 500 years hed have more experience than any human who has trained all day for their entire life. Mana Regen: Ataru uses the Force to power its attacks and movements, which normally means they get worse as the fight goes on, but Yoda being able to recuperate his ability to use the Force almost as fast as he uses it means he doesnt really get weaker as the fight goes on. Compare Yoda's to Qui-Gon. Both use the same form, but Qui-Gon needed to meditate during his fight with Maul to regain his ability to use the Force to fight and wasnt able effectively recuperate, whereas Yoda seems to just passively regain his Force abilities without the need for meditation. The South Park 64 Rule: In the old South Park FPS game for the Nintendo 64, there were two characters that were essentially the best options in the game, Starvin Marvin and Ike. These two charcater were the best in competitive play because their hit box was less than half the size of other characters. Yoda's size limits the angles of attack that an opponent can use against him, making him have to worry about a lot less while on the defensive.

I just rewatched their duel recently and Palps impressed me more than I remember. Right at the end Palps (at his peak anger) levitates multiple of those speaker platforms in the Senate and then throws them at Yoda. Yoda's face is visibly shocked. On screen, that's the most impressive display of telekinesis from any character by far. To catch ONE and throw it back takes Yoda a tremendous effort while Palps was cackling while doing so to like 5. In fact, Palps is cackling in delight the entire time except when his lightning is reflected lmao he's the ultimate Sith and the ultimate troll 🤣

Old Palps was definitely eager to pressure Anakin into killing Dooku! I thought it was just a "call-forward" moment of comparison to how he will one day try to coerce Luke into offing Vader in a fit of pique during their duel...but it seems to go a fair bit deeper than that.

Yoda definitely has more power than sidous. He's only bested because he's extremely old and he's wearing down naturally, a siths body will break down fast do to the negative effect of the dark side, some might say, it is unatural 👀 lol. 900 years of knowledge, and Yoda still holds back, probably because what he knows could destroy the immediate area or possibly the planet. He also assumes Palatine wasn't disarmed, when he probably was, and it was just left on the cutting room floor. He assumes. Sidious voluntarily puts his saber away. Also, the clear message was that the fight was basically even, in both the saber, and the force powers. Neither really had an advantage over the other at either. Yoda's disadvantage was that he had to defeat sidious quick, before the security arrived. Yodas advantage was that he was willing to die to defeat sidious, whereas sidious wanted to survive the fight.
