Well, Sidious was a vortex of anger, rage and hatred without any concept of morality. Even among most Sith, he was an anomoly of evil, a shadow even darker than the Dark Side. In short, a dangerous being in any and all circumstances.

When his father tells him he tried to swaddle him and he fought him with a force that was unreal for his size and age I got shivers. Love that his father got the DNA test because he truly thought the boy to be born of the force itself... the Sith'ari indeed.

Wonderful video. My feelings are that "not wanting" Sheev Palpatine as his apprentice may be incomplete. While Hego Damask had an abundance of resources that could have enabled him to extensively broaden a galactic-wide endeavor to seek out and vet the most appropriate apprentice, he was also a pragmatic being who heeded the nudges of the Force. These nudges unexpectedly guided him to Naboo so that he and Palpatine's paths would cross. Plagueis believed that he would be the one who would train the Sith lord who would be the archetypal "politician" during the dawn of the newly reformed galaxy, and that the Force would fate a meeting between Plagueis and such a one. So while Plagueis was sure he would find an apprentice who added the most value to the grand plan in the most specific way it was needed, Plagueis would also be aligned with one who suited his preferred demeanor. On numerous occasions, Plagueis felt appeased while personifying a professor emeritus of sorts to his apprentice, who had a clear passion for academia and the history of the galaxy. As Plagueis saw it, the phase of the grand plan was nearing its zenith, and it was time for the Sith to consider a decisive component of the plan to incorporate a leader best suited for the era, which happened to be one that favored human leadership. The thousand years that culminated the Banite era summoned very specific beings to wear the dark mantle. The Force chose beings whose unique abilities could rapidly accelerate a specific component of the grand Sith plan. A resolute human who could forge the groundwork of an order (Darth Bane). A precognitive Iktotchi who could manipulate ties with beings of underground networks and intelligence sources (Darth Cognus). A mystic Twil'lek who could open a rend in the fabric of the crimson corridor and merge the realm of the mundane closer to the dark side (Darth Tenebrous' unnamed master). A Mathematical Bith who could calculate and steer probabilities (Darth Tenebrous). An affluent and scientific Muun who could set the galactic stage and further the mysteries of the Force (Darth Plagueis). And a charismatic human who could lead during the new Sith era and close the circle of one thousand years (Darth Sidious). Those are only a few, as a handful of other beings wore and conferred the dark mantle and moved the Sith imperative forward. Most importantly, they all passed what they (and their predecessors) knew onto the next. Keep these great breakdowns coming.

This won't be the first time I've typed this, or even likely the last, but this I actually one of the things I liked most about Darth Plagueis; he wasn't planning to be replaced. Obviously, many Sith intended to be the winner, like the Immortal who would finally claim the Prize, in Highlander, but itcwas just always so tricky to tie that drive with taking on an apprentice, in the Rule of Two era. It was the apprentice's objective to take everything the Master could teach them, improve it, kill them, and continue the cycle, but then it never really explains the plan for the end. Plagueis wins, and becomes Emperor, but then he has this incredibly powerful, skilled fellow Sith Lord, who knows more about him than anyone, and is gunning for his place, as ant Sith would. Even Bane, who started the Ro2, couldn't accept he wouldn't be the One, andctried to screw over his apprentice with essence transfer, and every other Sith both tried to hold all their power, and build up the one who would take it. And that's not to say I don't see the value in the apprentice. Plagueis got a lot of use out of Sidious, and might even have died had Palpatine not come and saved him from unexpected Assassins, but I still like that some of the last Sith were very much in on the BS that was their own tenets. Tenebrous planned to essence transfer Plagueis, as a stop gap to reaching phenomenal power, and Plagueis just planned to figure out how to embrace Highlander lore, and ignore time and death. Neither planned to be replaced, but while Tenebrous might have simply been planning to use Plagueis as a suit, Plagueis went the step further, and didn't even plan to need that. He did need it, and we got Palpatine, but u like that, at least for a time, he was prepared to NOT create his own demise, by teaching his successor.

I like that idea, but the force is very confusing in that respect. Lucas states that the force doesn’t have a ‘darkside’, that the force is light itself (note that in the films there is no mention of the light side, just the force). So these EU (or legends books) are amazing reads, and makes you think about the force differently, it doesn’t fit with what Lucas created, nor the philosophy and meaning behind his films. The dark exists in people, and there was plenty of darkness already in the galaxy that had nothing to do with the Force. The force is there to balance out the darkness, and it balances it out by influencing the galaxy with its subtle attempts/desire for light to eventually win out. The darkside is just people using their own darkness to manipulate the power of the force. The force doesn’t like this, and so resists it - Anakin being created of the force was an attempt at correction…… However, I think it’s influence is to teach people that the hard way, the selfless path, is the best way in the long run. So it will keep trying to correct itself, keep influencing things so the darkness in people, and those that attempt to corrupt and control its power, are always eventually bought down and balance can be restored (which isn’t balance of light and dark, it’s just balance in the light). Palpatine is supposed to represent the worse of human nature, and show that, despite the enormous power such a person may gain for themselves, such power is fleeting, and brings no satisfaction. Star Wars is a morality tale, and one that perhaps modern audiences aren’t quite on board with anymore. The morality tale is that there is always hope, always a chance for good to triumph over evil. And that despite overwhelming odds, good will prevail (hence ‘The Return of the Jedi).

It is interesting that Palpatine states that right from the very moment of their first meeting he began the process of manipulating Plagueis and that for several years Plagueis had been playing the tunes written by Sideous. If this is true, then Sideous was playing a longer and deeper game than anyone imagined, and this seems likely. Sideous seems to have been to Plagueis what Zannah was to Bane.

I have a topic that I believe would be an interesting addition to the Archives. Much discussion recently has been focused on the Sith code/religion and the Rule of Two era. The true Sith - that is to say the red-skinned species of Korriban and Ziost - were originally deeply-entwined with the Sith religion/Sith Code. When the Jedi heretic Sorzus Syn first wrote the Code of the Sith (Qotsisajak), she drew inspiration from the lifestyle and culture of the pureblood Sith. However, the Code of the Sith was written by a human female (Syn) c. 6900 BBY and was further cemented by Darth Bane (human male) c. 1000 BBY when he established the Rule of Two. Of the known Rule of Two era Sith, the overwhelming majority were Human (honorable mentions to Bith and Twi'lek). None (to my knowledge) were actually Sith by blood, and, in Legends continuity, the true Sith species were believed to be extinct by c. 44 ABY. I am curious what you at the Archives make of the absence of the Sith species from the Rule of Two era, or the fact that the Sith religion seems to have outlived and/or outgrown the Sith species that inspired it. Similarly, does the majority presence of Humans during the Rule of Two mean that Humans are inherently stronger in the Force and/or more susceptible to the Dark Side?

In Legends he should of chose Dooku as his apprentice while Dookus potential was not as high as people like Palpatine, Yoda, The Skywalkers, The Mereks, And The Solos it was higher then Plagueis own even if sligtlyor at least close or at the same level which is why he saw Dooku as a insurance apprentice if something bad happened to Sidious alive or not and Maul as a mere assassin because Mauls potential was not near, at the same spot, or higher then his own unlike Palpatines, Dookus, And Anakins yeah.
