My dad passed 13 days ago and every time I hear this song I think of him and that night then we listened to it at a park he always took me to when I was 8, him singing “you are everything and everything is you” to me. My mom told me that he adorned me and called me his “angel baby girl”. No one will ever replace the man who would literally do anything for me. I’m only 13 and he was my world and I was his. I love and miss you so dad.❤

I'm So very sorry sweetheart. And although I'm older than You are, I know that Pain that You are going through very well, and I never thought I would ever be Ok again. But I Am. And so will You. But you take all the time you need because these feelings that you're going through are very personal and just between You and your Dad. Just hope that if you need someone to talk with that you'll reach out to someone who cares and who would love to be there for You, and so let them be, if You need them to be (and for sure, your Mom). Know that there is One thing that will Never separate us, and that's Love. And Lena, once a Parent, "Always" a Parent. And so Speak to your Dad, about anything, and if you'd like even ask him to show You that he's there with You, and he Will show You! All You need to do is to be patient, and "Believe." Lastly, what a Most Beautiful Song You and your Mom have and that I believe was the Greatest and most beautiful Gift anyone could receive from their Dad. It'll be Ok Lena, and You will be OK too, and.. so will your Mom. Just give it time. And remember, "Believe.." ❤️ 🙏

I grew up on this kind of music. My mom passed away on February 28th, 2014. Shortly after she passed away, I saw a lady who looked exactly like my mom and I wanted so badly to walk over and hug this lady so tight. I started crying and this song was playing in my head. I don't think one ever gets over the loss of their mom. I was her caregiver for many years. She had dementia and it broke my heart when I couldn't do it any longer and she went into a nursing home. She only lasted 5 1/2 months, and she passed in December 2019. This kind of music I believe, evokes the feelings of love and loss and in a way healing. Don't let songs like these ever die. Bless you.

Feb 10, 2020: I dedicate this song to my first boyfriend and the true love of my life, Sgt Manuel R. Martinez of Albuquerque. Manuel, 23, was killed in an auto accident on Aug 22, 1975 south of Santa Fe. Returning to Albuquerque from a long work week at the Farmington mines, he rolled his 240Z Datsun. Manuel trained as a Marine at Camp Pendleton (radio operator), served a year in Okinawa and was a member of the VFW & Carpenters Union. Still in high school, we exchanged letters often. By the time I graduated, I knew I had fallen in love with him. Manuel graduated from West Mesa High School in 1970 and participated in track & field. Sadly, my mother did not like him and made our lives miserable. Then....he was gone. She laughed when she learned of his death, while mocking me for becoming hysterical. (I had a nervous breakdown and spent time in a psych ward.) Manuel's shy grin, warm heart, gentle spirit and strong work ethic were endearing traits to those of us who loved him. KATRINA *Bless the LORD, all His hosts, you servants who do His will. Psalm 103:21

I know it still hurts. Time doesn’t matter. This song also reminds me of my first love. The short version of our story is my mother didn’t like him. We eventually got together 14 years ago. He died this past January and my heart is broken. He’d sing this to me. I will miss him until I draw my last breath.

@@GirlfriendNinja I'm so sorry for your loss! My life spiraled out of control after Manuel's death, leaving me empty as I navigated my way in and out of relationships. (We made our mistakes but others refused to forgive while he was alive, so the consequences have been devastating for me personally.) Thank you so much for sharing your story. Many blessings, Victoria xo

That inimitable opening, the plaintive cry of lost young love, and the great Stylistics bringing it home! One of the best!

One of the best falsetto voice I’ve ever heard Russell Thompkins Jr. lead vocalist on this classic Stylistic song. Without him there is no Stylistics.

Don't you now appreciate how beautiful all this music was. We sort of took it for granted at the time. The ending is chilling. How he's singing his heart out.

Living just outside Detroit in the 60s was a musical gift, as the radio played a constant stream of Mowtown greats like this number and others from the likes of Smokey Robinson, the Temptations, Stylistics, etc, etc. Lucky me.
