@@yuri0568 That was for the No Life Till Leather re-release I believe. Dave wanted Lars off writing credits, James defended Lars, Dave threw a hissy-fit, and that was that I think. I like both albums very much but never listened them to compare. It's actually interesting to see how they've taken different approaches. 72 Seasons feels more like a mixture of Black Album, Load/Reload and Hardwired. It makes sense when they're highly influenced by Lemmy, Black Sabbath and Iron Maiden. The album as a whole is not the greatest, but it feels heavy, familiar and sometimes very personal for James. Excluding some filler songs, it's fun. On the other side, Dave litterally goes all out. He's basically a genious. The whole album is a banger. It's all fresh, fast and those melodies... So satisfying to listen. But it also makes sense cause Megadeth as a whole had many members and every one of them puts something different to the table.

I have criticized The Sick for recycling riffs and phrasing, not being as good as Dystopia etc...But I still haven't been able to make it through 72 Seasons, despite liking the first single. I've tried several times to listen to the whole thing and can't get through. I find modern Metallica's song-writing is atrocious and boring. For context, I was the world's biggest Metallica fan back in the day, (first concert, inspired me to play guitar, collected all the rare vinyl etc); and I have seen Megadeth live many times, I'm a superfan, biggest influence on my guitar and bass playing. These days, while I'm sometimes frustrated by Megadeth, I have nothing but contempt for Metallica. And going by how they have treated their fans for the last quarter century, the feeling is mutual. It's difficult enough to muster any enthusiasm for their occasional albums. But then they just end up being so lame. At least Megadeth records stand up beside other contemporary releases. But I would rather listen to a hundred lesser known bands than the over-hyped, over-indulgent, nostalgia-bait fake metal that Metallica churn out for their soccer mom and accountant dad fans. The same month 72 Seasons came out, Overkill released Scorched which is a million times better. And this year we've had Extreme release Six, King Gizzard release Petrodragonic Apocalypse, a new Sevendust album, a new Dethklok album, a new Filter record, a new Tesseract record, Cannibal Corpse and KK's priest, In Flames; Heimdal by Enslaved, which is a masterpiece; a new Periphery album, a bunch of singles from Samurai Pizza Cats...The list goes on and on. I grew up learning the Metallica and Megadeth catalogue on guitar. I could throw together riffs that sounds good but it would just be an imitation. You need your own style.
@RagingInsomniac Жыл бұрын
riffs are only part of it, you can write 200 good sounding riffs but you would also have to structure it. otherwise you have an album thats just "bleh" with maybe two good songs (looking at you, countdown to extinction)

It’s hard to compare the 72 riffs are more groove feel where the Sick riffs are more technical. Both are great to listen to but stylistically different. Megadeth has always had more tech feel. I’d enjoy learning the Sick riffs less Lol.

Nice one!! They're all good riffs, but for me personally, I like early Metallica (up to the "Black" album) and Megadeth since "Rust in Peace". Dave has just improved and improved and always has top notch people around him, from Marty, to Al Pitrelli, to Chris Broderick.....it just goes on and on. That being said, it is fun to compare, but we really don't have to choose....we can like everything! 🙂 Thanks for another cool video! 🤘🎸🎶👏👍🙏

Yeah, you're right. We really don't have to choose and can like everything. It's a bit sad people sometimes start fighting in the comments. What I like about his videos is there is no judging, just pure comparison (or not even that, just showcasing) which often shows what you just said - we can like everything.

That's one thing Lars brings that a lot of people overlook. In not being a technical guy, he can just focus on laying the fattest grooves, which affects how the other guys play too (in a good way).

@williamwoodard6682 Жыл бұрын
@guitarpro343 no I'm just making opinions with zero knowledge of what I'm talking about. There's a reason metallica is a bigger band it's really as simple as that lol. Tons of solos, flashy riffs, and unnecessary use of techniques doesn't make for good sounding music lol. Simple is better in most cases.
