One of the more important come backs of a species in my life time. As a child in the 60’s, you only saw eagles in captivity. Wild eagles were nearly extinct. But now, you can see them almost everywhere and they’ve become a back yard site for many Americans. We live near a little lake and we have one. When we lived in DC in the loop, surrounded by urban sprawl, we had a nesting pair in the woods near our house. Truly remarkable and a sign that mankind can make positive changes to our world.

It would have been saved if it had been taken to a wildlife rehabilitator. It likely has a disease such as west nile virus or lead/mercury poisoning from fish. A vet could have figured out what the problem was and treated. All they did was dry it off, not save it. The fact that it looks fine from the outside, and flies fine, tells you next to nothing about its health.

It seems they understand odds pretty well. In situations where they'd most likely die, birds and some other animals too might voluntarily take the risk of turning to humans, knowing how they are resourceful, yet still aware it's a lottery with their life basically. As if they understand that 40% survival chance is a lot better than 5%.

@@gentlemenofleisure12 like I said, birds are smart, and when they figure out that they aren't going to be hurt, they'll accept the help, especially fledglings, since they haven't developed the fear of humans yet. Rephical Gaming, Eagles are not really swimmers, and do not swim at all if it can be avoided. When their wings get wet like this, they will absolutely not be able to take flight at any point at all. This eagle was guaranteed to die had it not been rescued by this couple. Great job to them! Also, this is clearly a baby, maybe 3 months old, 4 tops I'm guessing. Without question they saved this beauty's life.
