Hey Brad, any info on the phrase "It climbs the hills like a Matchless?" The Beach Boys used this phrase on the chorus of their song "Little Honda." Some friends and I were discussing this and I have a sneaky feeling that it was spawned in surf slang. Any idea? Thanks, dude! --Jim
@BradRounds8 жыл бұрын
Actually, I'm not sure what this means! Ill have to do some research on this.
@StvMcQueen18 жыл бұрын
Save yourself the trouble, Brad. I found out. Matchless was an English motorcycle. The company started in 1899 and went out of business in 1966. So NOW we both know what the Beach Boys were singing about. Thanks for offering to help. --Jim / See: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Matchless

Hey Brad, I just watched this video and it was really helpful for a non-surfer. :) I live in sweden and I'm working on some translations for a tv-show (english to swedish). There is a californian surfer on the show, and he says: "freakin' frothy", "it's dredging right now", and "full on shacked in the barrel". Do you maybe have the time to sort them out a little bit? Especially the dredge one. Hope all is well, Sarah
@BradRounds7 жыл бұрын
sarah börjesson freaking frothy refers to the inside waves being foamy or him just hyped about surfing. dredging refers to how thick and heavy the waves are. means that they are probably breaking fast, steep, and hollow. And the shacking part is about being inside the wave, being tubbed. :) hope that helps..
@xgermsblog7 жыл бұрын
Thanks a lot! Saved my day! :)
@CounterFleche7 жыл бұрын
Dredging means that the wave is sucking up a lot of water, so it has a bigger than usual trough (the depressed area in front of the wave). This causes it to be shallower (and more dangerous). This can be caused by thick, hollow waves pulling more water into them and is more common over reef/rocks and in shorebreak.

Wasn't gnarly more like something being weird, strange or sth different like woah which indeed can be good or bad like sayin dude I've kissed Claire but she's got a gnarly breath 😄 or like we've jamming down the slopes ended up cutting through the woods, that was so gnarly. That's what I remember using it in the 2000s 😄

This was great, I been tryin to find out about "beginner surf wave height" for a while now, and I think this has helped. Ever heard of - Feyvid Surfers Semitist - (search on google ) ? Ive heard some extraordinary things about it and my co-worker got excellent results with it.
@BradRounds6 жыл бұрын
Pedro Alb hey buddy, so beginner surf should be on a sand bar break, no rocks. Also you want to bring a long board-(boards 8ft and up). A “foamy” or foam board will be good too, so that if you hit your head you wont get a cut most likely. Wave height should be no big the 3 feet. What beaches are you looking at?
