Oh my god thank you so much! Finally! Edit: I've come back to this just to say thanks again. This really helped me achieve something important to me. It's astounding that there isn't a good timer built into Powerpoint nor a well-made add-on!

I consider myself to be a knowledgeable Powerpoint user. But it never occurred to me to use the animation tools to craft a timer to keep an event on track. The creative possibilities are endless and I am happy to add this to my Powerpoint toolbox.
@TooneySA2 жыл бұрын
Just to help anyone else in the future. Instead of dragging the timer to make it longer, you can just right click on the rectangle timer in the animation pane, and click timing. You can manually set any time there by just typing in the time.

Thank you for this. I am also asking the same question: How can I apply this to the whole presentation to stick to my allocated time (usually 15 to 20 minutes)?
@TheTechTrain6 жыл бұрын
You wouldn't be able to do it with this method as this is just a single slide animation. Your best approach would either be to use the Rehearse Timings tool and record the slide transitions and animation timings so that your presentation always lasts exactly the right amount of time, or perhaps use VBA to create a macro which updates the elapsed time on the screen. I actually wrote a VB.Net app which displays a small clock in front of all windows on the screen which I use in my lessons for timing tasks, or just seeing what the current time is when a presentation is running full screen and there are no clocks in the room.

You'll need to insert a slide transition which includes a delay that's the same as the length of your timer. That would be the easiest option I think.

@lizora80098 жыл бұрын
Thank you for demonstrating this. I use 2 different sized ones on a Bell Ringer slide. 3 minutes max after the starting bell you've got to gather classroom supplies. 8 minutes for working the problems. However, I really need a sound to signal the end of the timer. How would that be done?

With coding! You won't be able to do that easily as an animation linked to the progress bar as created here I'm afraid. I do have another video which shows how to create a clock, and might look at doing one that shows how to create a text countdown timer.

What is meant by delay option in animation pane? Can you explain
@TheTechTrain3 жыл бұрын
It's the time that elapses before then inaction begins. So if I set a delay of 3 seconds, then the animation will wait 3 seconds after whatever it's trigger is before playing.
@englishgrammarquiz47093 жыл бұрын
@@TheTechTrain ahh.. thankyou so much for your time.. it's clear now but one more question .. Can you please explain what is use of trigger option ?
@TheTechTrain3 жыл бұрын
A trigger is whatever starts the animation. That could be the slide opening, or the mouse clicking. Or you can set the trigger to be a click on a particular shape on the slide, so it works like a button.
