The Unifi controller and AP's have been a great help to me as I manage a few locations that have a problem with unauthorized persons tampering with network equipment. Having all the sites managed off-site has eliminated that problem.

Hi, how would you setup the forwarding and DNS so you could use sub domains in something like Dyndns to access different servers you host, eg unifi.domain.com and then umns.domain.com (for a different server) and www.domain.com for a 3rd server where your web server is. I find your videos helpful, please keep up the good work. Thanks

Great video, as always! There’s a specific reason why you keep ports 3478 and 8080 open to the public instead of using a VPN for those too?
@LAWRENCESYSTEMS

You would have to have a VPN for every client which seems to be overkill

Lawrence Systems / PC Pickup Do you keep those ports open to “all” or you filter the source to your clients IPs? Sorry for annoying you... I’m always a bit worried about opening ports 😂

@@Exploited89 If all your clients don't have static IPs you'll have to open to all. You can always do country based blocking with pfblocker.

First thank you for your videos. I’m a prosumer who manage all my family network. Today I’m host I’m a CK and have the firewall rule open. I was looking to host on the cloud to be more secure. But in fact what I looking for is: make a VLAN with a UniFi running on a spare Mac. And make all the rules, so the remote sites just talk to this UniFi server. To separate my internal Lan. I had noticed that you close the SSH to only open on local access with VPN. Can you make a video with this in mind? With all firewall rules with the VLAN to self hosted controller with external sites in mind? Does need to be a step by step video. Since you have plenty of videos on VLAN and firewall. Just a summered best practice on self host controller. Plus the best way to use the DNS forward. And if it’s possible how to manager this if I have no static IP. Thank you for all your work. Forgive my English.

Great video as always. When you have a large install, how do you set all the Set Inform URLS? is this a manual process of logging into each Unifi device or is there a way to bulk edit this?

We have a controller with multiple clients on it, a few of those clients have multiple sites and would often like to monitor and also make some changes and stuff concerning captive portals etc...I usually create an admin user setting the role as administrator for the client to have access to his site but what about the clients that have multiple sites and would like to manage everything under one umbrella is this possible? Or would I need to setup another cloud instance controller for them and access that controller through our Ubiquiti cloud portal

@@LAWRENCESYSTEMS That's what I figured. Awesome on the quick response. Keep up the great work! We're looking into hosting at some point ourselves but on the fence about self-hosted, cloud hosted or customer on-prem. I would love to ask a question or two offline about hosting unifi if you have a way to be contacted.👍

We've got a client with just 1 AP Nano HD in Central London. Traffic is about 1 KB/s, as far as I can see from my OpnSense. It has aggregated roughly 400Mb (in and out) in last 4 days.

Msps are ridiculous. Charging people just to login to their environment? Its two extra clicks if you have them on a list of servers. I guess the monthly contracts aren't enough.
