Protestant Reaction to Visiting Catholic Church Inspired by the Book of Kells

I converted to the Catholic Church in 2015, and what got me on the road was just how much integrity I saw in the Catholics I encountered. The media and Hollywood try their best to bash Catholicism, but my own experience has been overwhelmingly positive.

Same here! I was confirmed a Catholic at Pentecost this past May, after 49 years of being a Protestant and a sort of "armchair theologian". I actually discovered the Real Presence of Christ in the Eucharist in the Episcopal Church, back in the 1980's. However, in Catholicism I have found something else I was hungry for: Discipleship. Also, the more I learned about Catholicism *from Catholics*, the fewer reasons I found to "protest". I mean, wow! All those denominations that exist just to protest Catholicism!

While there was unity in name for a few hundred years there were always those who rejected the traditions that violate Scripture. Also some of Romes greatest heresies came to be required doctrine only in what would be considered “recent” history. Hence the required Reformation.

Nice one, Matt. Irish here. It's easy to get lost sometimes in the depth and variety of Catholic art and architecture, but it's important to remember that the Tabernacle is the centrepiece of every single Catholic church, no matter what its cultural and ethnic affinity. The Tabernacle is where Jesus Christ, true God and true man, is really and substantially present -- body and blood, soul and divinity. Despite everything that unites us as Christians, this fundamental Catholic belief remains the biggest stumbling block preventing people converting to Catholicism.

I am not Catholic. I was raised Methodist and became nondenominational by my mid teens. Our church is called Grace Tabernacle. We believe the Catholics got it right in that the elements become the literal blood and body of Christ. I have always thought “can’t we all just get along” we are all part of the body of Christ. If I ever heard someone speak against the Catholics or any other church that is a part of the body, I recoil !!! Remember folks if a kingdom is divided against itself, how will it stand ? The only thing that matters to me is if you believe Jesus is the only begotten of the Father who came to take our sin upon himself at the cross that we may be saved !!!!!!! God bless you all !!!!

Catholics by and large are taught to have respect for other religions and their traditions but in other protestant "evangelical " churches that's not always the case....I agree Matt here is very good though 🙂

Great video...that is why I love being Catholic. It is truly universal. The Church help to build and conserve western civilization, art, education etc. The Church meets people where they are and brings them to Christ. There are 23 different rites (liturgical) that bring the different cultures and incorporates them into the Church. When you spoke about the rich history and cultural aspects of the Irish the Celtic thread it is woven into the Church their basic elements and Christianized so to speak by transforming concepts and cultural items that were familiar to those people and bringing in Christ teaching just as Christ transforms each of us. We conform to Christ. This can be said of the eastern rite Catholics or any...you can go to any country that celebrates the Holy Sacrifice of the mass and although it is in the vernacular you can see their icons their traditions and see the same sacrifice at the altar wherever you go. Think of St Patrick he took a Shamrock something visbile and known to Irish people and used it as a device meeting them where they were to describe something abstract the concept of the Trinity. Amazing. Thank you for doing these videos and giving a fair treatment and showing appreciation for our rich heritage.

Irish monasticism played an important role in the preservation of the classical world during the "dark ages". During the early 500's Brendan the navigator followed the islands of the setting sun and created Celtic monastic communities in the most remote places. The Faeroe islands were one such place as it means in Irish " the red men". He travelled to Iceland and likely to the New World. St Columba also called Colmcille, " the dove of the church" set up a monastery between Ireland and Scotland on Iona which precipitated the Christianization of the Picts which in time was instrumental in the unification of the Gaels and Picts which in time formed the country of Scotland. The Irish went eastward as well ,as the monastery of St Gallen in Switzerland is named after an Irish monk

It would be awesome if you went to a Swedish immigrant church and hear their story. Ebenezer Lutheran Church in Chicago. In Sweden the churches are going as far back as the 800s AD. In Scania where I live most churches are from 1000-1300 centuries. Like Europe's churches are all old. We have much woodcarvings traditionally. Blessings!

when you mentioned the Irish history in the US. I came up in central Indiana, and my father's side is Irish who came to central Indiana, and I was told the story the Klan met them saying they could be Catholic or they could eat. They were Catholic behind closed doors because no one is going to tell them how to believe, and that got handed down to me 🙂 As an aside, and I may have said this in other videos, but I dig on the conversations you have with other Christians across the traditional lines. The way forward for the church that Jesus built it's unity. Unity and brotherhood between denominations that transcends the differences we might have in belief to focus on the universal truth that we're all brothers and sisters in Christ and it's not how we find Jesus or which set of beliefs that resonate with us most that matters, but instead the following of his highest commandment - to love one another as he loved us. And he loved us all so much that he died for us so we might live. Therefore we should not quarrel among ourselves and who is the true church, because we all are.

Two points to consider, from a historically accurate perspective: Luther split from the Church because rather than working from within and trusting in Jesus, he took it upon himself to fix things. The king of England wanted to separate from the Catholic Chuch because he wanted to divorce women at leisure. Both of these things split people away from the Holy Apostolic Catholic faith, and created splinter groups that now number in the thousands but only located primarily in western Europe and north america primarily and are by leaps and bounds far away from being a global church.

Why shouldn't Christ's people add beauty to their worship, using all the skills and talents that God has provided? Isn't it part of giving our first fruits to the Lord? Doesn't it help to engage all our senses in worship? As long as it points people's hearts to Christ, there is nothing wrong with it. To the extent that it distracts from Christ and what he has done for us, becoming mere religiosity, then it becomes a hindrance. Good that you mention the Irish as outsiders. So many immigrants from so many countries were discriminated against. I heard a young person say "they told us to pull ourselves up by the boot straps but we dont' even have the boots! " (You know what? They have the boots....our ancestors did not have boots. @chrisjames6600 No its not. Our parish does it and it's absolutely gorgeous. I love the TLM, we'll do the TLM and I have multiple TLM's within 30 mins of me and what we do is right there with it... I actually prefer it over the TLM and im a young dude who recently converted from Protestantism. Gregorian chant, ad orientum, communion rails, smells/bells, all of it. If done properly it is similar to Eastern Rite liturgies.

Prayers for your search for the truth. I'm a Catholic convert, and appreciate that you don't do the sort of mud-slinging, cliche throwing condemnation (usually wrong) many others do. They achieve nothing - all heat and no light. But having said that, I hope you can do a deep dive in the Eucharist - 152 Eucharistic Miracles and counting. The most recent in Poland 2015, and Mexico now under investigation. Why? Because John 6 is literal, and from that, 1 Cor 11:27 is also literal. But so what? Because then, when Jesus says "do THIS in memory of Me", that's how he commands worship. So we comply. I'm not gonna write an essay. Do search that up. Some of the miracles can still be viewed, if you want to take your podcast overseas!!

grew up in Chicago, never went to st Patrick, i did not realize at some point they had white washed over the irish art. this explains why never went there, i was interesting. she is right, outside of the 'party hearty people , st;pat day is smack inthe middle of lent. so a Mass. some special food or family fun on the 17th. she did not seem to understand the clover was a great representation of the trinity. funny many Ex irish Catholics might be trying to be atheist . but they all deeply respect the trinity, i think that was the irish influence.

Matt, remember that the Irish were converted by none other than St Patrick. You would do well to read some of the accounts of the life of St Patrick and see what a difference he made in the life and mindset of the Celtic people. Catholicism is the form of Christianity that converted nations.

How can one be a Protestant realising that Protestantism has no real connection to the truth of the Gospel? How are Luther and his cronies actually connected to Christ’s Church? Luther was a murderer,who had no vocation! He only became a monk because his life depended on it - not being executed for his horrendous crime! Luther was a murderer who killed a man in a duel; who to save his life sought the ancient right of sanctuary - no priestly vocation there! There is only one Church; not branches. If you believe in branch theory then who is right about anything theologically? Why did the Church have the Seven Ecumenical councils? I suppose they don’t matter because they do not support your views? Did Luther know better? I wonder.

Ah yes. The truth of the gospel. Pray to the dead, for the dead. Worship relics and icons. Ask a priest for forgiveness. Have celibate clergy. Or sodomite clergy who abuse kids. Then protect those clergy. Forbid the eating of meat on Fridays. Change the Sabbath to Sunday. Have a church that would also be a sovereign state with its own army, political corps, and bank. Amass untold wealth of billions. Sell indulgences. Elevate a dead Hebrew sinner woman into queen of heaven. Speak a dead language during church services. Forbid the laiety from reading the book bible.
