Grand Tactician Civil War by far the best Civil War game and one of the best RTS games ever. Hope they make an American Revolution version soon Ultimate General is making an American Revolution version and it looks amazing with a real time campaign.

Grand Tactian: Civil War is in my Opinion, one of best Strategy Games and it it rewards you for courage and speed. By this I mean that if you base your battles on Napoleon, Alexander the Great or the blitzkrieg strategies from WW2, it works in GTCW and is really fun! 🙂However, I'm not sure what state the game is currently in after the introduction of the DLC. You keep hearing that the economy and the construction of buildings, i.e. the entire mechanics behind it, no longer work properly. Unfortunately, I haven't found any up-to-date information.
@jamesmills1094 ай бұрын
@@rc59191 yes its a good game overall, but unfortunately the ai is not very good, and you have to put it on at least hard to get a challenge, which only increases the ai morale so that they will fight longer. so the ai could have horrible tactics but can still win because hard difficulties give the ai super human morale in order to make it more difficult. This almost ruins the whole game for me and this is why I will be trying out ultimate general civil war now.

Thoroughly played this game 4 times, 2 times in each side. Still entertains me till this day when I load up the occasional save I have for each campaign to replay battles. Speaking of which, you should try Grand Tactician Civil War. It's the combination of Total War and UGCW.

It’s more so a mix of Paradox Victoria II and Total War. Both campaign map and battle map. I hope for a sandbox mode, earlier start year, all policies available so long as the perimeters are met. As in you can attain up to all the initial policies you select from depending on how you play. Overall though, I agree, you need to invest some time into GTCW. Especially after the economic update. Don’t let the UI overwhelm you though. Creating armies isn’t as much as it looks. However, I’ve yet to get down the Corps system

@@naturalbornpatriot6369how’s the AI? Trying to decide between UG and GT and it sounds like the AI is more challenging in UG.
@naturalbornpatriot63695 ай бұрын
@@millnate1 I’ve not played UG, but from what I’ve seen, you’re not given much freedom to make decisions outside of scripted things. The AI in GTCW battles is not terribly difficult to defeat, if you outnumber or are outnumbered you’ll win or lose (especially early on with the not so great equipment available). There is a feature attached to battles that the AI follows, and that is if reaching a certain threshold for losses, it will retreat the field. Say they are on the attack, and you are dug in, if you lose a few hundred to their few thousand, they retreat in most cases. It is not 50k vs 110k fighting to the last man. You certainly can make that decision with your armies, but the AI does not, most of the time. The campaign map decision making is where the AI’s difficulty is. You can set the aggressiveness to off or highest, and the campaign experience will change dramatically. From multiple theatre full scaled invasions of states, or naval landings deep in your territory with no standing army at the ready nearby. I would go with GTCW, it is more complex and deeper to learn. But there’s some bias as I’ve not played UG

Gotta say brother it's been a real pleasure watching your channel grow and come into the big deal you've grown into. Then you even covered 2 of my mods, the first one I made still one I hold a soft spot for, scouting just wasn't covered in Rome 2, and I think we did a lot to alieviate that with increased expensive agents and then wanting to reduce the large load order we had getting a true 12 turns per year campaign going for divide et impera, increasing the campaign management to paradox levels, and with ultimate 12 turns per year for Rome 2, I really feel we got that right and your spotlights really helped us show off those mods to a greater audience, so while it's been amazing from a fans point of view, it's also been fruitful as a fellow modder out here just trying to get eye balls on our mods, you've been amazing for this community and I'm excited to see these additional games in the grand/real time strategy genre is awesome. I still recommend the hegemony series. There is the first one in ancient greece, or there's the 2nd with Caesars campaigns in gaul, then a full on rise of Rome with 3. There is an amazing mod for hegemony 3, called classical world, which gives you a full on total war sized map to conquer hegemony style which is a really cool blend of grand and real time strategy. At any point on the map at any time, you can zoom out from a grand strategy campaign type map down to a real time layer where you can navigate troops look around for natural terrain advantages to occupy, or push towards, or just build up your cities with. It's a lot of fun. While the troops sizes are not as big as they can get on Rome 2 et all you can still get a large variety of units, and thst classical world mod, the guy sjz has been working on it for over 5 years and added hundreds of units across dozens of factions covering a large period of Antiquity. If you haven't checked it out yet, I really recommend try hegemony 3, rise of the ancients I believe, the standard game covers the rise of Rome across Italy, Sicily, and hopefully Carthage and the Punic wars one day, but with thst classical world mod it covers everything from the middle east to western Europe, just amazing stuff.

One of things I love about this game - especially for the Confederacy - is the importance of reorganizing your corps between battles. Some battles you want high ratios of cavalry - as in Gettysburg, for example - while others you want virtually none, as in 2 Bull Run. In that at least, "strategic" choices between battles are enormous. In general the AI plays remarkably well, though it can be suckered into useless piecemeal attacks. Also, It's possible to win every battle on either side (though I found Antietam for the CSA as by far the hardest). Thanks for a great review!

What I love in this game is the battle. For me, Battle are better than Total War,. In Total War, we need to perfectly position all units, macro managing every move and specific unit power. But don't have the time to do it. Each little mistake is just horrible. In Civil War, you have time, there is no specific abilities to each units, Units not run away in a second, letting us the time to make strategic move. And for me, it's more realistic. I think most of this good things comes from the fact that units are small but represent 100 to 3000 units. My dream is a Napoleon Ultimate General, with multiplayer. And keep units like this :)
@Corgilius2 жыл бұрын
You know what, total war (in a linear warfare sense) needs to add this customization of soldiers aspect by a digression instead of just using the “best”. The user can decide the weapon of the unit and maybe even the gear. Cheaper soldiers will have older weapons or weapons that are easier to make and less effective, say the user wants an effective modern infantry: they’d use more modern rifles, or even a more elite unit with the best or close to best weapons available.

Great game but a few things to keep in mind. This game does unit size scaling. meaning the larger your army numerically the larger the enemy force. This can be overcome by putting all points into the cost of recruiting veterans into your ranks. Keeping future points into veteran training as well as medical to reduce loss's. Unit wise keep infantry under 800 men and make more units of small Cav& skirmishers to fill our your ranks

It has Campaign map and battles, Economy, politics, research. Keep in mind the game is unique and original. The commanders don't follow the orders rigth away just because you clicked them to do so, they have their own initative and flow, they also if army has bad organisation, they can refuse to follow an order, and also to come into conflict with a superior.

I dont like this game. It's main problem revolves around difficulty. In particular how it's not difficult but frusturating. Most battles your troops are out of position and the enemy is hardcoded to have a numbers advantage in every scenario. I started a union campaign, somewhere I think around Chickamauga I gave up. I had a decent army in the field and positioned along the forests to give my men cover. Lee comes in with 30k troops (Not joking) smashes my 11k of line infantry and artillery and costs me the battle.
