1. Book thru Expedia and the liability is included 2. If you have a credit card that offers cdw use that card to pay fort the car. Bring a printed copy of the policy on the cc letter head with you. ( rental car companies will try not to honor your cdw with the cc company. Be prepared for them to tell you them to attempt to scam you at this point. Card was declined or you must leave a deposit equal to the value of the car up to 14 k USD. Car rental companies make all their money off the insurance which is not always NO DEDUCTIBLE!) 3. Dont prepay refueling!!!! They charge an outrageous amount fir gas if you do this! Thrre are gas stations conveniently located all over the area from cancun to tulum and beyond!
@porfiriato842 жыл бұрын
Your first point... That's false. There are rental companies that will not accept Expedia as proof that you are covered. It's best to purchase that once you're there.

I have rented a car in Mexico every time I go, My only tip is get full coverage insurance don’t be cheap !! I slightly dented a bumper on a basic rental and they charged me $650 for the damage. The following trip I rented a Dodge Daytona fully insured $600 for a week from hertz and if you know Spanish you can %100 haggle the price down I have done it every time 😬

I rented a car once at aguascalientes airport. Very simple process. The thing that got me very upset was that credit card hold fee/deposit that they charge before you can actually rent the car. They told me it was fully refundable once I return the car. Well. I returned the car in perfect condition and they never frikin returned my money. Thieves. I've been hearing that most car rental companies in Mexico never refund that typically large deposit.
@porfiriato842 жыл бұрын
@WR GLY good advice. But even then it's the fact that you even have to get to that point to get your refund. Like why can't Mexico just make it easy on us 😵💫

@WR GLY or it could depend on which company you use. I just used Europcar 2 months ago in the same airport and I got my refund immediately plus great customer service. The negative experience was with Budget. Eh who knows.

Didn't fully understand the left turn thing. You pull of onto the right shoulder and wait for all lanes to clear before making a LEFT turn? Or is there a left shoulder somehow?
@zolorock123 Жыл бұрын
Yeah, it wasn’t very clear. It would be weird to pull to the right shoulder and wait for all 4 lanes to clear up; you would be stuck for hours there.
@MrJasonfromcanada Жыл бұрын
@@zolorock123 I’m currently in Quintana Roo Akumal and he isn’t correct. On Hwy 307 they have these U-turn areas called Retornos all along the hwy, its how you get to the other side of the hwy. They are marked 1km before the retorno which requires you to make a left U-turn. So how it is done especially if you are a tourist is you travel in the right lane and start slowing down, when slowing down you ride halfway onto the shoulder while waiting for a clearing behind you. You then put your left signal on and change lanes all the way to the left lane and merge into the retorno. Now the key is timing because left hand traffic is flying way faster than the posted speed limit so you don’t want to be in the left lane for more than 200m. Also when in the left lane ride the shoulder as well. Hope this clears it up. It takes a bit of getting used to and just pay attention to what the locals are doing. I recommend not trying to keep up with traffic, find a semi truck to follow as they’re usually travelling a bit slower than the speed limit.
