Hi I haven't followed the history of your gas leak but I believe it is only a legal requirement to have your system worked on by a qualified engineer if your van is hired out. I have installed a LPG system in my van this comprised of an under slung tank gas , regulator , truma 4e boiler, oven , grill ,hob and all the pipe work and shut off valves . It is important not to over tighten compression fittings. You would probably be better off using a gas safe paste on the fittings rather than the tape. I think Greg Virgoe has done a video on gas. once you've carried out the work use a gas leak detector spray. If you are then satisfied get your own gas certificate inspection done . Cost about £50 then you won't have any problems regarding insurance. Just go on the gas safe site and you can find a lpg engineer. I probably saved somewhere in the region of £500 doing it my self Good luck

Hi Jof. I don't mean to put you off working on your own van but as a retired gas engineer of 30 years the definition of competant, according to HSE and Gas Safe is being experienced and qualified in the area of work you will be carrying out. Being Gas Safe registered is a recognition of competance. Probably not what you wanted to hear but please be careful and maybe get a Gas Safe engineer to carry out a Tightness Test after you've fitted the new valve. All the best.
