Half Term from Hell

Happy Therapy Crouch release day! In this week’s episode Abbey and Peter talk about their rather eventful Easter break spent with their nearest and dearest….as well as their four kids.
With Pete pondering why the little ones get such a long time off for Easter when Jesus himself only took 3 days, Abbey lets loose on some of their less-than-wholesome strolls in the park and trips to the beach.
During Weekly Whine Club, Pete’s shortcomings on all things technology based are exposed and we hear from one of our listeners whose husband is left rather unimpressed by one of her morning rituals.
In Agony Ab, we hear how one of our dear listeners is planning on throwing the wedding of a lifetime with his boyhood passion taking front and centre stage, and what to do when your gut feeling is telling you there is something wrong in the relationship.

I’m a teacher and I agree with what you’re saying about the curriculum . In Northern Ireland we have classes for life and work but the kids pay the least attention to these classes as they aren’t examined and so they think it’s a waste of time . Also, I will say, school is basically to teach kids how to me critical thinkers and problem solve so that when they’re older they can question what they read and numbers on bank statements etc etc however , they don’t want to apply their skills to real world tasks . Most kids want to do the bare minimum and pass exams because they think that’s what important , which is a shame

Brilliant chat as always and reminded me once again why I have only one child! I was out for a walk this morning with my wife when a young couple came towards us with 2 excitable dogs and with 2 very young kids learning to ride their bikes. We walk a 4km loop around a lake and had to stop and laugh, I mean help, as the dogs pulled dad into one of the toddlers and all 4 went into the drink! Carnage ensued and once all were safely accounted for we told the couple that they can leave their kids in bed once they turn 15 and have a nice quiet stroll! Just as we were doing! There is hope... flipping Love the podcast! From the US. We literally had ‘ski week’ thrown into Feb weeks after Xmas and before Spring Break (your half term). Was total insanity and disruption of learning flow. I think it depends on your life, all my daughter does is go out on our tiny estate and play football, or go down the football field, or train, or play football matches! I know how lucky we are to still live in a place this is possible. In the summer we go the the beach. I can't afford to fill her life with a million activities, so I'm grateful she found football. For some reason people feel pressure to have kids in a billion clubs. I think they need freedom to learn to risk and decisions and get dirty. I really enjoy your pods! Always has me grinning!

I agree children need to be taught life skills but the reason you learn certain things in maths for example is to build a foundation of knowledge. You can expect someone to do a degree in maths if they only know the very very basics
