Actually, in the original Rapunzel, the husband steals rapunzel plants from his witch neighbor's garden because his wife is craving them and keeps begging him to get some. (There's many variations of this story and the plant changes often, i.e. radishes, rampion, rapunzel, cabbage) The witch demands they give over their baby once it's born when she catches him. That's where her name comes from.

Talking about Rapunzel being dark, you didn't even mention the fact that the Witch cut Rapunzel's hair, gouged out her eyes, banished her to the desert, tricked the Prince, and made him fall into a pit of brambles...which poked out his eyes. In the 2015 movie, it was shown that Lady Tremaine originally married for love, but when the hubby died, she remarried for money, which she got with Cinderella's father. The brother Grimm version of repanzul went a little more like this, rapunzels mother was pregnant and craved a plant named repanzul she craved it more knowing she couldn't have it, for it grew only in the garden of the witch that lived behind them. She send her husband for it he went and came until he got caught he was so scared to be caught stealing and lying that he promised the witch anything ,even his first born child. When repanzul was born the witch took her immidietly, and put her far away from society. One day a man heard her singing he liked it so much he follows the sound to a tower deep in the forest. He saw that the witch would say "rapunzels let down your hair" so he did it too and he climbed up a few times. He made friends with her and kept coming back. One day repanzul said to the witch "why do you weight more than the prince" the witch became so mad that one day she waited for the Prince to come ,pushed him down to fall in a bush of thorn and he lost his eyesight, he then let repanzul go but she was pregnant. One day she was roaming around in a dessert and for she was singing that the Prince was able to relocate her, they actually ,unlike many of the Grimm brothers stories, had a happy ending... enjoy

Well the original fairytale of Snow White is even darker: the evil queen is actually her mum! That was a real shocker for me. Also she ATE the heart that the hunter brought her. When she figured out she was alive after all, she tried to kill Snow 2 more times before the apple did the trick (Sort of cause she is lifeless/in coma not dead). She used a poisionous comb first and then tried to suffocate her with a ribbon. The Prince isn't so charming either....he actually takes her home, coffon and all, and likes to watch and touch her. She only wakes up, not through a romantic gesture like a kiss, but a harsh one. She is shaken so hard that part of the apple she ate came out of her body. Then they "live happily ever after"....uhm yeah... don't find that convincing really. And another fairy tale that doesn't have a happy ending: the little mermaid. She didn't even stay alive so wasn't able to have a happily ever after at all. Eric (although I do not remember they are being named) choose another woman and Ariel actually turned to sea foam (that is even worse then dying I guess). Well I am actually glad Disney changed the tales haha. Although almost every Disney movie has its dark aspects, like dying/died parents (Why is that/??!!!) it can be worse if you know the source material. But I have to mention that original fairy tales weren't actually for kids at all, but moral educational tales for adults.

The way I remember the tale was that the prince never loved her back, so she would become sea foam, and her sisters managed to fing a way to make her stay, which was if Ariel killed the prince and his wife (i think she had recently become his wife?) but Ariel chose to become seafoam. It is probably that there are many versions of the tale :)

Another reason i think Triton favors Ariel is because she looks and acts almost exactly like her mother. Not to mention like said she is the youngest at sixteen. Which means in his eyes shes still a baby. So he'll do anything to make sure she is safe, even if it means not paying as much attention to his other six daughters.

I don't think cinderella's stepmother killed her husband. He was just cut off by disney because it would had been difficult to explain why he allowed cinderella's abuse for years as he does in almost all the versions of the story (basile, perrault, grimm, etc). And in basile cinderella caused this to herself: she killed her first stepmother so her teacher could marry her father. Obviously the second stepmother turns out to be worst than the first and having six secret daughters. Cinderella may have been abused, but she never pays for her crime and instead she becomes queen. Abused doesn't mean innocent, she was pretty lucky to marry the king and not someone else less powerful

I do not remember every detail of the original storyline. Has been too long... but in one version the father simply travels a lot. Cinderella is( or was) from a wealthy family. Only after her mother's death and her father marrying her stepmother she got degraded to the live like housemaid. Once the father finds proof of his daughters abuse( right about the same time she marries the prince) he "divorces" his wife by simply kicking her out of the house. Those where the days, huh ? :D I think the original version is french, whereas the version I remember is german one, the Bother Grimm's version.

@@Kiki-jt2jp The version I know is italian, 1634 (but there are at least two more ancient: the greek one settled in egypt and the chinese one).The father is still alive and not caring about her in the italian one, the french one and the german one. In the german version actually he just disappears from the story after Cinderella grows up. In the italian one he's a prince, he travels a lot but he forgets to bring some gift to his daughter, while remembering to buy one to his six step-daughters (he gives Cinderella the gift she asked only thanks to the fairies) and he litterary says to the king that yes, he has another daughter but he didn't bring her along to try the shoe because "she's a good for nothing". And then the king has to order him to bring Cinderella. Anyway, now I really want to find the version you know because I'm some kind of fairytale maniac.
