Macklemore has struggled with sobriety, had a relapse a few years ago, wrote about it. Very involved in the recovery movement. Now you have to checkout the song "Kevin" he does with Leon Bridges. Perfect follow up and Leon Bridges' voice will break your heart in the most beautiful way. Love to the Third Fam. 💙

I remember watching this when it came on. From wikipedia...On 14 May 2016, Macklemore appeared in Barack Obama's weekly address to talk about the dangers of addiction to opioids and prescription painkillers. Macklemore talked about his own experiences with abuse of painkillers, stating "When you're going through it, it's hard to imagine anything being worse than addiction. But the shame and stigma associated with the disease keeps too many people from seeking the help they actually need. Addiction isn't a personal choice or a personal failure

By far my favorite Macklemore song right here. Got me through some tough times for sure. It is funny when people who have only heard his album releases listen to his mixtape songs becuase they're such a completely different vibe Also the guy singing in the Chorus isn't Ryan Lewis. The singers name is Fences. Ryan Lewis is Macklemore's personal DJ/Producer/Beatmaker etc. But yes Macklemore is very open about his addiciton. He's got a lot of songs about how much of a struggle it's been in his life and how many times he's relapsed

Great Commentary Reaction. 🔥💯So hard when we go to addictions, unconsciously, with the purpose of numbing the pain while so much of that pain is/was created by, or unaddressed through the addictions (like false solutions) themselves. Their compelling power to paralyze movement beyond the confines of myself, while proposing excuses/feelings of co-dependence to continue joined with the problem, is underestimated. Bet something like 99/100 times it's underestimated until it has been encountered.

I’m at day 516 of being sober and it’s still a battle. Some days are way easier than others, but it’s not something you just wake and forget one day. To anybody struggling, or still struggling, just slow down and take things one hour at a time instead of the “one day at a time” way. At times I had to go one minute at a time. Stay strong and keep moving forward. It does get easier, but it will never disappear.

SUPER refreshing to see someone react to macklemore!! i love him, but i always have to give a disclaimer when i talk about how i like him like "i know so cringey" type of deal, but he actually has a LOT of songs that show of the lyricism that he's capable of. unfortunately the radio has mostly only played his lighthearted stuff. you caught a lot that most wouldn't, and i am excited to check out the rest of your videos now! i would really recommend "wings", "over it ft donna missal" (the green room room sessions version ((omg donna is unreal in this)), "neon cathedral", "white privilege ii" (very shocked more people haven't reacted to this), and "starting over"

This is a video I'm going to show my kids when they're older. I have 11 year old twin boys, and they're really good kids, but I don't fool myself about what they're going to run across in their lives. I'm an ex-addict myself, and I think when they come to me when they're older about this shit, this will be a good lesson. I had a friend die myself, not from overdose but from being in the wrong place at the wrong time because of drugs, and I want my kids to have all the information they can possibly have about it. That's one thing alot of us didn't have growing up in the 80's with mothers that had never done any kind of drugs. Southern Baptist parents in Mississippi back then were very naive, and we got away with alot of shit back then. It's a new world now, we have so much more information that really needs to be shared.

Ernest - dunno if you have friends or have tried getting an operation and then get opiods for the pain, then when u are bout to get off the opiods - depending on the dose - its hard and your body goes into a mode of withdrawls and if that happens, they recommand you to take a hot shower - so i think the water (the sea - cold ) or the bathtub (hot) is representing the withdrawls-phase your body goes through when you are trying to stop opiods :)
