@@TheTimberLife I'm 55. You are a lost generation that needs to come back. I have no idea how I got to watch a video like this (recommendation) but it was kind of jaw dropping. Genuine, authentic, female. A https rare species these days. And, as others have mentioned, don't call yourself stupid. Making mistakes is how we learn. The only stupid one, is someone calling you stupid. This is an upside down world. Nature is how normal should be.

@@TheTimberLife As someone who lives in a tick infested area, I can tell you they arent that big of a deal. They have to be on you for 24 hrs to give you lyme disease. I always feel them a lot faster than that. Then i just yank the little suckers off. Its confusion that makes people think they will leave their heads in you. They wont. Humans have really weak tissue paper like skin compared to dogs and cats. They scratch with claws that would shred us after all. So their skin WILL rip a ticks head off and keep it inside. With your skin, they are more likely to take a chunk with them. They do that a lot to me. #themoreyouknow lol

What a beautiful setting, love that platform and tarp! Ticks are everywhere and there's only so much you can do. I can't hardly walk out in the yard and definitely not our back field without the potential. Checking yourself is difficult, obviously requires a mirror but is the best defense. Caught quickly you can pop the evil things off pretty easy.

I've been bitten several times by ticks, they're much smaller here, quite hard to see, just today when I got home I had one on me but luckily it hadn't yet bitten and I managed to get it off! So you're not stupid for having been bitten by a tick, as for the bedding we live and learn (I initially thought it was a good idea then remembered the creepy crawlies!) but you could've picked up the tick somewhere else anyway! Cheers :)

I agree. Having the wherewithal to erect your shelter on a raised platform, hike everything in, climb up and down a lot (keeping you in wonderful shape), and fixing what appeared good meals is inspiring. Avon use to make a product called "skin so soft" that was fragrancy, but it kept ticks from latching on. They may have crawled, but they would not latch on. I used it a lot in search training and on actual search missions. Doing the frequent tick searches, was a great idea. Therefore you are by no means "stupid". Good to see the mindset change about women camping, especially in the wild. Enjoyed your video, young lady.

I don’t know if you were looking for a life mate but I can promise you, after this video and your personality, you’ll always find one. Aho!

You try to be as careful as you can and you still get one of the little buggers on you. I got bit playing disc golf a couple of years ago and I ended up with lyme disease. Caught it fairly early because of the rash but it still caused me several months of grief. Point is, you found it, kept it and are planning on dealing with it. I hope it comes out well for you. Thanks for a nice relaxing video.

Eating heavy foods like meats before sleeping can keep one awake. The tick looks flat still and no parts missing from it. Did you have it tested?

Growing up and living in the city my entire life, I've always been a bit fascinated with bush craft. Even with the little mistakes here and there you did way better than I or most people could have done

as one of the comments out there that posted on here. I agree with him that you're not stupid and honestly, I admired how you're out there solo camping like this. I would say you made a minor mistake, but you also took the tick out alive and get yourself tested for any virus from that tick. That is pretty smart of you. Don't count yourself out, I like your video and happy camping.

I have a tip for you, one great nature home made tick repellent; It contains; Essential oils: 15 drops of lemon grass 7 drops of true lavender 5 drops of peppermint 3 drops of eucalyptus All this oils put in a dark glass bottle and mix finally add 50 millilitres of neem oil Mix again and voila ✌️

I love the smell of lemon grass it feel's both cleansing and awakening to me. But Eucalyptus to me is like a gift from the Gods. not so much the smell but if steamed it will do more for your sinus than you can imagine and as for the headaches that come with it , you can forget those too. it's quicker and more relieving than any medications i've ever tried. I swear by the stuff and as i said i'm not really a fan of the smell. 100% natural oil though don't be fooled by the knock offs , they don't work as well at all.

Don't beat yourself up about the tick. If you live life in the outdoors, things are going to happen and make good lessons on what to avoid. Enjoyed the video and look forward to many more. Good luck with your channel.

You're a brave young lady. And it really seemed nice to sleep under that tarp setup. As for the tick, don't worry probably nothing. And since it wasn't embedded very long, I don't think you have anything to worry about. Don't let that stop you from enjoying the outdoors again... Thumbs Up!

Thank you for sharing. Although I am a lightweight backpacker, I still enjoyed your video. I use an 8 x 10 tarp and I really enjoy rain at night and especially T-storms. I appreciate the note about cutting boughs or green wood on public land. A lot of bushcrafters do this on public land and there is no need. My inflatable sleeping pad is very comfortable, weighs less than a pound, and packs up very small. Private land you can do what you want.

That was a very artfully done video. You're camping skills are terrific. That was very intelligent of you to save that tick for testing. I do hope it was not carrying any Lyme disease. Those meals looked absolutely scrumptious.

How far did she have to haul all that gear? The cynic in me says not far or not alone. Easily she was carrying 120 ltrs of volume in three bags and probably close to 25-35 kgs of gear.🤔. Too many of these videos don't show the effort or the background assistance involved in this sort of camping. If I'm wrong, then more power to you. Smoking your bedding boughs and tick spray would help some.

I never said I had walked for miles. There is a trail you can sometimes drive on when its dry and on this day I was in luck.

Awesome video. That's a pretty impressive setup you have there. The raised platform has given me some ideas. Not playing it down in any way but the first tick is always the scariest and I still remember heading straight to the doctor with mine. I have lost count now. I had 18 one trip. You did well to get it out completely intact from quite a hard spot to reach. Anyway, thanks for filming and keep em coming, Andy
