I thought this movement (and watch) had the higher beat. I’m certain it does. It also is a true GMT. Both these facts make the price an absolute deal.
@krankenhaus19912 жыл бұрын
My Seiko presage sharp edged GMT uses same 6R64 movement , has 28,800 beats and 45 hours power reserve. It costs me about 1,200 USD at local shop (with bargain price).

The biggest pro wasn't even mentioned. This movement has an independently settable hour hand. Making it a true traveller's gmt instead of an office gmt. Not many "true" gmts at this price point. It's supposed to be the same movement as the Seiko presage sharp edged gmts released last year

I have the SPB217 (Sharp-Edge Indigo Dial GMT) and it too has the 6R64a movement like this one. And you're right, this movement is a true GMT in that you skip the hour hand only and leave the minutes intact.
@thomasmathes50192 жыл бұрын
I hope Seiko did a better job of the independent hour hand than one particular Swiss company. Having lived with a couple of Swatch Group products with this feature (Omega Aqua Terra, Certina DS-2 chronograph) I detest the feature with a passion. First, with those watches you lose the quick date change ability so to advance the date you have to use the hour hand to change the date (sort of) quickly. so it'll take 24x as long to change the date. That's not the main reason I hate the feature though. The big reason is the hour hand will drift alignment when you use the feaure enough to the point where the hour hand's ability to move properly will completely fail. I can be repaired but still, it's a major flaw in my book. I refuse to every consider a watch with the feature again unless it's an electrically controlled hand (like in Citizen RC-controlled watches).

One of my grail watches is a Grand Seiko Spring Drive GMT. This one checks all the boxes of what I am currently seeking which is a 'different' GMT that is a REAL GMT and the price is quite affordable. The light blue tint is also rather interesting, as is the titanium. I will have to see how it looks on my wrist as I am a 'smaller' person and have narrow wrists

Hey Jory. The Seiko SARF011 with the 6R64 is a high beat movement--4HZ 28800BPH. It is the only Seiko 6R that is. I bought the Seiko Landmaster (JDM) back in 2020 and it has the 6R64 High Beat movement.

Nice watch. The 6r64 is a 4Hz movement. It's the same one in presage Sharp Edge GMT. You can even see it in the footage. Add to that it's a travellers GMT. The latter for tracking multiple locations in one place is a desk/office GMT. 100m water resistance is absolutely fine.

One of my most accurate mechanicals is the Stowa marine original with 18000 vph. High beat is not necessary for accuracy. The MFR just has to do it, both in design and quality control.
@itsnotaboutthewatch81542 жыл бұрын
Great point. So many of these specs are marketing more than anything else. Now, that said, if you are going to get that accuracy with a low beat rate that means that your mechanical tolerances have to be much tighter! Coming from Stowa this is not a surprise. most manufacturers are not going to bother at this price point.

Great show once again Jory. not sure why you are worried too much about the watch being not high beat. A high beat watch works faster which means more wear and tear on the mechanism. We need to have mechanical watches that can be passed down to our sons and daughters so that they can appreciate watch making for what it is. i know that i am going off topic here but i have some great watches that I want to pass on to my children, watches with a bit of history.
@TheMilitantMachinist2 жыл бұрын
some good points there. I have a Tissot Seastar Silicium with the Powermatic80 and I am sure that one was knocked down to 21.6k/bpm and it doesn't really offend me. Mostly because I can take it off on Friday (it's my work watch) and swap it for a weekend watch, but know come Monday morning it will still be ticking along.

Higher beat frequency is not really an extra luxury in my eyes. What it does is it makes watches more prone to wear and tear, and it shortens service intervals by a lot. I rewatched the Roger Smith interview series Adrian had at Bark Jack. I liked his thinking, that a higher beat rate is the easy way to enhance accuracy and mask not so good tolerances, and it means we exponentially shorten the service interval and robustness of a watch. Now I'm not saying that having a lower beat rate in and of itself makes a movement better, but if you can have a movement with similar accuracy but at a lower beat rate, it can have twice the service interval and will just be much more robust. I don't really care about the high frequency sweep(I have watches with 28800bpm sweep, I personally see no aesthetic benefit in it). But I understand of course that other people may find it nicer. Just wanted to point out that in some way, an equally accurate movement at a lower beat rate with similar architechture can indicate better tolerances, and will most likely cause a much longer service interval and more robust movement.

There's budget Swiss for half that with etas that are much more accurate. I suppose it depends what you're looking for in a watch, but having to potentially turn it back nearly 15 mins a month?
