Ah yes. Gomora was the first Kaiju who fought and defeat the original Ultraman. He was so popular that he starred in his own series called "Ultra Galaxy: Mega Monster Battle" and it follow up, "Ultra Galaxy: Mega Monster Battle - Never Ending Odyssey" plus a movie called "Ultra Galaxy Legend".

My first intro to Gomora was as a child seeing a neighbor kid playing with the large (over 1 foot tall) action figure outside in his front lawn. We quickly became friends. Me and several asian friends were into japanese monsters as kids. None of us ever called them kaiju. Many of those action figures we had are worth a lot of money now.

I remember running home from the bus stop after school to watch the original Ultraman (Yes, I’m old). I had forgotten this phase of my childhood until your vid popped up on my feed. The scene of Gomora shaking the stub of his tail brought back a flood of fond memories. I have never seen any of the subsequent spinoff series and to be honest, the original hasn’t aged well over these many years but I will always cherish those days.

He has appeared in so many remakes that I think a cool way for him to lose his tail would be against another MONSTER. How about a version of the story where Gomora is the underdog and he and an Ultraman are fighting together as a team against a really big monster and the evil monster tears off his tail but then the tail attacks the evil monster helping Ultraman win.

Pretty cool video. While Baltan and Zetton are probably a bit more popular and showed up in a lot of stuff, I don't think it has been as many as Gomora. Personally I have always loved the kaiju and think he hits that right spot of Godzilla nostalgia...without being a "ripoff". Can't wait for the next Galaxy show to start airing and bring him back. Should be some good stuff.

Damn this was a nostalgia trip, remember watching Ultraman and Ultra Galaxy episodes on youtube when I was a kid, always loved how savage Gomora's fighting style was. When most kaiju fans think of the top 3 of the genre, its usually Godzilla, King Kong, and Gamera but I have always personally had Gomora taking the fourth spot when it comes to the kaiju greats.

What gets me is, like the UK's different Marionation series, this was around during my childhood and yet I had no clue about it until the last few years, thanks to KZbin. I'm positive I'd habe loved these. I loved Godzilla, superheroes an the Shogun Warriors comic; a perfect combo.

Great video! Gomora has always been one of my favorite Ultra Kaiju, his design is quite straightforward compared to a lot of the more bizarre monsters that show up throughout the franchise but I think that helps him stand out a bit. I'm also always partial to dinosaur type monsters so that's a big plus in his favor as well.

Great video, loved the information. I guess the only bit of missing info was that the max version, much like the previous ones, was evolved from a gomorasaurus and in its prime it was giant, the bio-terrorist's aim was to turn the smaller present day gomoras into big ones like they were. One thing I sorta dislike but just got used to is how Gomora's special abilities like the oscillatory beam, which existed before only as a burrowing ability, became a norm for non-trained/non-fighter gomoras, since it felt like it made sense for other ones beside Rei's like Hiyori's and Daichi's gomoras to have it, but then the one in R/B normalizing it was off lmao.

Thanks for posting! Gomora is a long time favorite Kaiju of mine in the Ultra series. The suit actors always emoted a lot of personality into the design. Also my first choice of Kaiju to raise in Ultra Kaiju Monster Rancher for the Switch.

Excellent video Professor! Liked, and subscribed. Though I may have just not heard you cover it I think Gomora, and Godzilla share at least one more thing in common. Both have played the roles of villainous kaiju, and heroic kaiju in different appearances. Granted Godzilla has done this to a more diverse degree also having served a neutral monstrous kaiju destructive force of nature. Still I thought it was another similarity worth pointing out if you hadn't already.

If I am not mistaken, Gomora was one of the monsters on Monster Island in the 2016 reboot of The Powerpuff Girls! I recognize the shape of his horns! The classic PPG I will always remember by heart and yes, they fight giant monsters besides crime and supervillainy like a giant puffer fish monster!

The Ultra Galaxy series was by far my favorite of Ultraman, and in contrast I love Gomora. I was never a big Ultraman fan, I liked it, but the constant aliens (that were nothing more than humans with spandex) kept turning me off of Ultraman. I watched Ultraman for the kaiju not humans that were aliens that would get big, and look exactly the same, bah! And make no mistake, I watched a lot of Ultraman, but everytime they would do the alien spandex thing it would turn me off, I liked Spectreman a lot more because of that(too bad they didn't continue with that, I loved the whole idea behind the show)! The monster rancher game that recently came out with the kaiju, if it wasn't for the fact it was switch only, I would have bought day one, but alas, I will have to wait till they decide to do a PC version!

At least in his first iteration he was a sad, tragic victim. He was doing just fine in his natural habitat and what the science patrol did was unforgivable and it made me hate them all and no longer think of them as "heroes". The science patrol were never taken to task or sued for the harm their actions caused and it feels to me like the Japanese government gave them too much unsupervised power without the proper checks and balances, like a literary precursor to the modern mythology of the SCP foundation.
