The only complaint I have about this is the Turbo Ultimate needs a different shifter for the Manual Trans. It definitely needs a short shifter to get that”hot hatch” feel. Just put in the one that the R Spec gets.

As someone who daily drives one of these I have to agree with everything you said. Coming from an original 2012 Veloster, its a whole different beast and a TON of fun. It's great being able to switch from daily to N when you're in need of a bit of fun.

I currently drive a 2015 base model Veloster but I test drove one of these guys a month or so back and it was amazing. Hyundai improved the car so much it's almost unrecognizable. I'm hoping to get a 2019 one in a couple of years so the price is lower

Check the owners manual. My 2019 Veloster N performance pack does in fact require 91 minimum octane.

High octane is required with a high compression ratio and port injection. Direct injection doesn't squirt the gas in until after compression though, so there's no chance low octane fuel will pre-detonate. So it's my understanding that you can put low octane in a Veloster N without damaging it and even my lowly 2019 GDI Accent benefits from 91 octane because of the 10.5:1 compression ratio. Correct me if I'm wrong.

@@godblesshamas it's tuned to use 91 octane. if you use below 91 octane, the ecu automatically detune to 250hp or lower to protect the engine. it's common on Hyundai, Kia cars. they can burn low octane fuel because ecu takes care of it but lots of germany, japanese cars that requires high octane causes knocking in the engine if you use low octane because it's not tuned in the ecu.

@@elegy57 Right, for port (before valves) injected, because lower octane fuel detonates under high compression even without a spark (like in a diesel). It sounds backwards but higher octane is actually harder to ignite. Direct (after valves) injection is a completely different animal though. When the piston is moving up and compressing there's no gas in there yet. It gets squirted in a split second before ignition. It's my understanding that knocking isn't possible.

@@elegy57 The intake valves dont get "washed" by gas, which also makes additives like upper cylinder lubricants and valve cleaners completely useless... they might even foul an oxygen sensor. Anywho, Hyundai said they have a carbon cleaning service for a few hundred bucks. Recommended every 30K miles if I remember correctly. And FWIW, I hear Toyota has a new "dual injection" system with both kinds. Dont ask me how that works! 😆

I love the way this thing just carves corners, and the exhaust is mental for being on a stock car. I spec'd mine in Racing Red, with the Performance Package. @@Kseriessuck Hands down I'd pick the Veloster N over though two, as long as the Veloster has the Performance Package. I feel the Civic Type R or a Golf GTI are better comparisons because they both have LSDs. If you don't care about how nice the interior is, I'd still pick the Veloster over the GTI. Civic Type R is a lot more money and in my opinion..uglier. I'd just go drive a couple of them and see what you like more. They're all good cars.

I work at a Hyundai dealer and we have a red Veloster N that came in about 5 months ago. I didn't even know what the N line was back then meanwhile now I'd buy it if I wasn't a broke Accounting student. Love the aggressive exhaust and pepp of this thing. Nice transmission pairing as well. Glad that Hyundai didn't ax the 3 pedals yet. The really cool thing is that despite the fact that I am almost 7ft tall I fit relatively alright, with easy clutch access and driving controls with the seat pushed all the way back.

I have had my Veloster N for a few months. It is the perfectly daily driver for an enthusiast because you can cruise in Normal or Eco mode on the freeway and listen to the good factory stereo. When some off/on ramps hit just press the N mode button and have some fun. In Normal mode, cruising on the freeway, it is no Camry but more like my 2003 E46. For me, that is comfortable but YMMV.

I like it for dailying. It's a great daily for someone looking for the car that skews heavily towards the performance spectrum and is okay with the more basic interior. It's a bit more civil in its 'Normal' drive modes, but just about everyone who owns one drives it in 'Custom N' with some of the more aggressive settings where the car's true character comes to life. Specifically, the ride is a bit firm with the sportier suspension settings and the exhaust is a bit louder with the more aggressive throttle response settings. But for someone looking for this type of car, it just makes things more fun and exciting.

Yea perhaps. I know many people who have moved to cities with bumpy roads that had to sell the veloster n because it is too stiff. However might I suggest the Elantra n? It’s suspension is much more refined and you get 95% of the fun and slightly better performance than that of the veloster n.

The Civic R drives better, but costs more and is uglier. The MX-5 and BRZ lose traction on snow. The Fiat Abarth also has good exhaust sound, but is much more unreliable. It is a possibility when I sell my motorcycles in the future, because my balance is starting to fail from old age. I am 60 now.

At 60 I ride a sportbike with 90 horsepower that has a 150 mph top speed (the last 600cc Kawasaki with 4 carbs from 2008). I do ride it more conservatively than when I was 25. The biggest problem with Hyundais and Kias is reliability, even with a 10 year powertrain warranty. Toyota, Lexus and Honda usually get to 200,000 miles with no big problems, and less often for the other brands. The Tucson recently had the dual clutch tranny replaced with a conventional automatic, because of reliability problems. We bought a used 2018 Mazda CX-5 recently, and our second choice was the Tucson for the way it drove and looked, however the April issue of Consumer Reports magazine at a library showed that many Tucson owners had warranty repairs that are a huge hassle.

I've put 10k on mine and I still makes me happy just driving to work. Great car. I am possibly going to be getting a set of 18in wheels and tires for daily driving and keep my 19s for the track. I have some City driving and the wheel and low profile tires don't like cobble stone and uneven pavement areas I have to get through. Need more rubber!! Course on smooth pavement it's a dream. I drive 90 percent in custom mode. I'm never in N mode out on the road, that is track only IMO. Best part of this car is that you can do a custom drive mode that combines the engine performance settings along with the soft suspension settings for driving around town. You can't do that with a Type-R. I have the Turbo R-spec version of this car with under 3000 miles and I'm about to trade it in on an N. The only reason I haven't yet is because a Dual Clutch version of the N is coming. Decisions, decisions...

Nice video, that exhaust sounded like gun shots in that parking structure. I was chuckling like crazy!!! I was selling Hyundai’s when they came out with the 1st gen Veloster. I was initially very excited for that car, then it tanked in sales!! What a let down. Basing it on the Accent platform was the 1st mistake, then they hired Albert Beiman and he put his magic to work. Putting it on the Elantra Sport platform was what this car needed. No longer selling cars. I got tired of working every weekend. After almost 20 years in the business I called it quits in 2015. Now I work M-F, no Saturdays! I sold all Luxury brands until 2010 when Obama screwed up our economy and Luxury car sales went flat. Then I saw the new redesigned Sonata!!! I jumped ship from the Luxury brands and never looked back. I worked for Pugi Hyundai in Downers Grove, Il. They took great care of my customers. Pugi was and is a great place to do business. They have very high CSI month after month. Bought my wife a 2015 Elantra Limited rite before I left. Still love them all at Pugi and I visit them often for service and just to visit. Thinking I might buy myself an N next year.

Don’t forget to add Hyundai reliability. German performance plus one helluva warranty and the fact they rarely break unless they are being flogged every moment by a young driver who never maintains the car until there is already an issue. The only things this car needs are special silver and ghost grey paint schemes and alcantara interior options for the dash/door/center console/armrest. As a note, the great things about the third door idea are safety ideas. Children and pets can only exit one side of the vehicle and that third door is always on the curb. For a guy and his wife/girlfriend with no kids, this is the ultimate getaway car for a vacation. Tons of cargo space for two heading to the beach and this thing will hang with the Type R all day long with the proper driver. Albert Biermann is an engineering monster when it comes to performance cars.

@@MrSomnix power wise, maybe not. But I have seen datalogs showing severe timing adjustment while doing so. To each their own but personally I use premium because I live where it gets 110*+ and the car just runs smoother.

Veloster n had amazing aftermarket support right on release. Same engine as the geni coupe. They've got stroker kits amd sleeve kits. Could have this engine hitting some high numbers... Probably beyond what fwd can handle.

The one negative that I noticed on my test drive was that it was weirdly difficult to rev match myself with auto-rev match off. I would stomp the throttle in neutral and still couldn't get the revs high enough.
