@@eraser465 ahh fantastic!, i'm not to far away from Bellville. Cape Town is still a beautiful place to be, it still has it's problems like high crime/murder rate and the entire S.A is still experiencing load shedding(rolling blackouts) due to corruption and mismanagement of Eskom, other that that, S.A has a 34.9% unemployment rate, very little tax payers and corruption throughout all the sectors, people are surviving but one thing about the good old Cape, it is still D.A run, our people have a positive outlook and we are resilient, Table Mountain keeps guard over all of us as the South easter wind tries to blow us all away. Keep well Mark.

Im glad I’m not only one who washes the ceilings, walls, etc…with a mop, like, why not as just a big rag on a stick, lol. Also makes it easier. Smoke smell almost gone, and priming and painting helped SO MUCH! along with ripping carpet out and doing all new Floors Got my house in January, and move in day was yesterday, and finished most of remodel on 10 Dec 2021. Still have a bathroom and ceiling to do (cracked ceiling, so…….:and the bathroom shower has cracking grout, even around drain. Gotta love remodeling; Fun fun fun.

Hope you read this comment, Scott. My wife and I have been in our house since 1976 and have renovated twice. Both times using the open concept. Don't do that!!! We have no private (soundproof) space to be alone when the other is making necessary noise (yelling at a friend over the phone). You and Jess need to claim your own space within the house that can be closed off for that privacy. 51 years of marriage. You'd think we would have figured that out. Anyway, looking forward to following your remodel adventure.

As always a great video. If you struggle to get rid of the smoke or any other persistent smell I highly recommend what the used car dealers do and buy a small ozone generator. Set it running and leave it alone for an hour and you’ll be amazed at how effective it is. I’ve got rid of dog and cigar smoke smell in 20 minutes, that 3 deep washes had failed to shift.

Congratulations! An ozone generator will get rid of the smoke smells. They're pretty cheap for one with a big enough output for for a house. It'd need to be left on for a few hours with everything closed, then turn it off and air out the house before entering as it's dangerous to breathe in. Used one on my second hand car that absolutely reeked. Took about 3 x 2 hour runs and a follow up vacuum and you can't notice the smell.

Scoot & Jess. Congratulations! A real project but so much potential. And a, what will be amazing garden. It will all take time but it will be worth it. And, yes Scott, as you say it is a good to 'live in' an old house to find all those hidden aspects. Also, here in the UK it is a considered worthwhile trying to live a year to monitor how the natural light changes in the property. Very different in summer and winter. Stay safe. And you will make it YOUR HOME! Together.

If you want to remove the smell of smoke, you need to paint the first coat with special paint.Otherwise the smell and the yellow color will pass trough the normal paint, even with multiple coats, and you will just waste energy, painting over and over.Dont ask me how I found this out.😃 Is south called “Up” Like:I moved up in Nelson from down in Auckland? Really great to see your "new" house at long last, and that garage I bet sold the house for Scott....am in the middle of renovating a unit and living in it at the same time, the garage you have will come in very handy for storing materials etc as you work, only wish I had somewhere like that as it's a real pain having to move belongings as I work. Your setup there will make life so much easier than my situation.... the house looks like it has great potential and is probably the perfect type of house for you 2. Really interested to see what you do to it. I was guessing either Nelson or CHCH for your move, Nelson would have been my pick and I wish you guys all the best with your project

Ha-ha, Jess! You're not in the Big City anymore! You're just like us - the place had to be washed top to bottom, carpet's cleaned or removed and everything painted before our sensitive dog would feel at home - he couldn't stand the cigarette & dog-stinks any more than we could! Congratulations on buying your First Home - a big step. I think a lot of viewers will be very interested to see a house from this period in almost-original condition - there are few homes in Britain (I'll guess) that look like this nowadays, but there are still plenty in NZ & across the ditch that look just like this - incredible really! I think you're right to grow into it - I'd say the same for the garden, too, even more so: - don't go mad ripping stuff out, because you don't know what it is or whether you'll like it. Unlike fixtures & fittings indoors, your garden takes years to establish, so what you could rip out or certainly cut down in 5-mins could have taken 30/40-years to get like that & when it's gone - it's GONE! Certainly do a little pruning & tidying, weeding's always good, but till you've been in a while (year!) you won't really know how it works & what eyesores it's hiding. The garage is such an asset - you won't know yourself! Just in time for Christmas! Have FUN! 🦘🐾👍

But it's your shitter. Looks like decent bones where you can really make something. Lovely separate garage perfect for a workshop. Pity it reeks of cigarette smoke. Will be very satisfying to work on your own house, although never fun to live in it while doing renovations. Spend the money to do it right - pick neutral colors, top-quality appliances so the wife will be happy. Nobody wants to cook on a Gourmet 2000. You chose a nice property.

When you have a chance to be away from that house, rent Ana ozonator for few day and blast the house with that it will help a lot with cigarette smell. Then air it out for couple of hours, that much ozone is not healthy for humans or animals. I’ve done it many times. Looking forward to see how your house is coming along. Cheers from Dallas. 🇫🇮

Low and a little run done but I don't care it has a double garage. A quote 98 percent of men would say. Also, glad to be here at the start of your new journey and look forward to seeing all the changes you two will make. Congrats of the home.

I love the New Zealand accent with the way you say moffat. Here we say mah-fet. But the way you say it sounds like more-fat. I like your way better! 🤪

Man, the door handles are so high from the ground or ours are so low (I'm American). Good luck on the renovations, they never seem to stop for me D:

Build a North facing brick wall in the garden, and fit that conservatory to it and you've got yourself a great greenhouse.

Do not remove the fireplace, upgrade it to a compliant one, Nelson winters a cold, and heat pumps are nothing like the feel of a fire. For some areas in Nelson, once you remove it cant be replaced in the future if you change your mind.
