I know this was posted a few years ago but I just booked a flight to Madrid or rather changed from Sicily to Spain. I LOVED my time in Basque country and I love the sea. This is calling me. I'm just going to show up in Irun mid. Sept. with good shoes and a good attitude and walk until I'm done walking. Thank you for the inspiration and great videos.

Muchas Gracias ! ... many thanks for taking us along this beautiful adventure! ... you are brave in undertaking the Camino del Norte during the fall/rainy season; but the gorgeous coastline makes it for any rainy day. There are gorgeous seaside villages and small cities along the costal path in Asturias and Cantabria. I hope you had the opportunity to visit Santillana Del Mar (not in the coast) and the Altamira Caves while in Cantabria. In Asturias the seaside fishing villages of Llanes, Rivadesella, Lastres, Gijon, Cudillero and Luarca among others are real gems. The seafood is amazing. Hope you were able to enjoy some of the summer "romerías" or regional festivities which dot every single small town with folkloric celebrations full of color and tradition. Those of "la Magdalena" in Llanes -July 20-22- are particularly beautiful. I can't wait for the next episodes, to savor the beautiful sights. You took the road less traveled, and would love for you to do a show giving your own personal insights and recommendations: for example, I see that the Camino del Norte might not be as well marked (compared to the French Way) or that it traverses some private properties ... would like to have some feedback on this. Maybe you can do a show comparing the Camino Frances, del Norte and maybe the Primitivo from Oviedo. In any case, I would like to thank you once more for taking us along this wonderful trek! .... I live in the US but My family is from Llanes and I spend every summer in the Cantábrico recharging my batteries with this beautiful nature! .... Buen Camino!

Thanks for this guide. It helps to keep my memory of the Camino del Norte fresh and immediate. A year ago today, my son (then 18) and I were transiting between Luarca and Abadin. We had only a couple of weeks for the Camino, and had walked from Gijon to Luarca and were going to walk the final 150 km or so from Abadin to Santiago. We arrived at the cathedral on 7 July. I hope to return to walk the entire Camino del Norte. My daughter (now 16) expects a Camino experience in two years when she finishes high school. A good friend just did the Gijon to Santiago segment and arrived 27 June this year. He described it as a life changing experience, and I truly believe that it is. Buen Camino.

Im from Sweden and im 11 years old. I want to go the camino too when I get older. It’s really fun to watch your videos about this because you get so much info and you see it in so many perspectives when people watch your videos. One question: Can you sleep in tents or do you only go to hotels? Because it would be a nice experience to sleep in tents but do you do that or do you only sleep at hotels?
@TheTravelVlogger
@TheTravelVlogger 4 жыл бұрын
It is never too early to start planning! Technically it is illegal to use a tent, but I ran into a few that were camping and had no problems. they also have albergues that cost €6-12/night and are similar to a hostel with bunkbeds. Buen Camino future peregrino!

Good video! I will watch your other episodes as well. I'm thinking about walking the Camino del Norte in September this year. I've walked several since 2016 (more than 3000 km so far), but it sounds like rain is more than likely to be a constant issue in the mountains of northern Spain, especially over a month or more of walking. I'm going to invest in some good rain gear, waterproof socks and boot protectors (the ones that you pull up to your knees so that the rain flows away from the boots). From experience, I know that it takes a long time for wet boots to dry at night, even after much of the water has been removed with newspaper.

Good Morning Brian: Thanks for such a wonderful set of Camino Del Norte videos. My wife and I have done the Camino Frances and The Portuguese Camino from Porto to Muxia by the central route and back to Porto by the Coastal Route. We are planning another one in 2020 where we would do the Camino Frances until Fromista then take the train to Santander. Then do the north route until Rabedeo. There we would train to Ferrol and do the Camino Ingles to Santiago. We were having a lot of worries about the dangers of the Del Norte but watching your videos gave us the feeling that we can do the section of Del Norte we were planning on. We put up our videos on KZbin at camino peggyglen2017, they are not as professional as yours. Thanks again so much. Buen Camino Peggy and glen

A beautiful video, such an inspiration! I'm thinking about walking the Camino del Norte next year (when Corona will allow). First I had the Camino Francés in mind but as 2021 will be a holy year the Camino Francés will probably be pretty crowded. May I ask you in what month you went on your trip? Do you had any problems to find an albergue to sleep at night? I have heard that the pilgrim infrastructure on the Camino del Norte isn't as good as on the other routes.

Hallo Brian Thanks for the great video on the Norte. I plan to do it in 2024. I can learn a lot from you. But a simple question: How do I pick up the Camino route in Irun? And for that matter in all other towns? The Camino route is not on Google Maps. Or am I missing something? Where in Irun do I get the Pilgrim Passport? Have a super day.

I noticed a lot of paved or roads that are not real rough. If I had to ship my big bag, which days would be more likely benefitted not having to carry them I hope to pull a cart behind me and have it turn into a backpack when needed. But may be as much as 50 lbs.

@TheTravelVlogger

Thanks! It is definitely possible. I didn't see too many people doing it. I would suggest staying at refugio as they are cheap and this way you don't need to carry the extra weight of camping gear.

@TheTravelVlogger

I did book my accommodation for the first week, but i stopped making reservations as it does not allow you to be flexible. maybe one day you decide to stop early and then it messes up all the reservations afterwards.

Hi Brian! I saw your video of episode 1. I have a couple of questions to ask you: Where do you live and how did you get to Irun (your beginning point)? How do you know which sign to follow the Camino de Santiago? By the way, I am Omri Nezer from Israel.

HI! there are hostels/albergues all around the route. I arrived in Bilbao by plane and then took a bus to Irun. However, there are more ways to get here. buen camino!

Hello! I subscribed! I will look at the episodes with pleasure. North Camino is one of the points I want to go through. And in July / August 2018 (I also documented it and released the video) I was walking Camino Frances. I wanted to go through it first to find out what it is. But of course in my head there is a wilder and more exciting way.

On Sept 4 I am hiking the Norte with my sister and her friend. Your video is so inspiring and comforting!!! Just seeing where will will be in a couple weeks is awesome. Because we have 30 days and we will be hiking fewer miles per day than you there will be parts we will have to skip :( I am sure the whole Norte is great but if you had to skip any segments, which would you choose?
@TheTravelVlogger
@TheTravelVlogger 4 жыл бұрын
sorry for not seeing this message sooner. I would skip the Cantabrian section as it has the most amount of walking on concrete. Hope you had a great trip!

Thanks so much for your reply. We just got back this past Friday and the hike was amazing. Because of time constraints we ended up hiking parts of each section and when we reached the village closest to the Primitivo we took a bus all the way to Grande de Saline and walked through to Santiago. Your videos of the Norte were spot on and one of the most beautiful landscapes i have ever experienced. I kept a blog of our trip at bonbonbags.wordpress.com if anyone is interested. @@TheTravelVlogger

Can u tell me the hotels u stayed in and how u planned the trip. What guide did u use? Thank you
@TheTravelVlogger

I used booking.com to find the hotels...it was +30 so unfortunately i did not remember them all. There were a few places that a hostel/albergue was the only option. There are several websites that break down the hike in to stages that you can follow, but there is no right or wrong way to do the camino. You can choose how far you want to walk each day.

I am planning to do it next year, this year I did from Sarria to Santiago (easy for me) but I want to ask how hard it is for a 60 year old lady, I love your videos and I am excited to do the North way
@TheTravelVlogger
@TheTravelVlogger 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Eleonor! It does not matter how old you are, but rather what kind of fitness you are in. The beauty is that you can walk as far as you want each day. I would suggest trying to walk 10 miles/day at least 3 days a week for a month before your trip.

Yes, I am thinking of walking from Bilbao to San Sebastian instead of the other way. My daughter is in San Sebastian and I want to visit her but at the same time have the experience of walking part of the Camino de Santiago. I will be by myself. How difficult are the climbs? I am in pretty good shape but not young. Also, I have a fear of heights in which I can have the feeling of falling off. I don't care about heights when it feels more enclosed, trees, etc. How much of that will I experience? Or how long?

My fiancé and I are planning on saving $$ for a couple of years and then going on the Camino del Norte before we get married. I've had some reservations about it, but these videos totally help me. If you see this, quick question: How do you know to catch boats or to go through gated areas? Also are there certain albergues that are specifically for camino travelers?
@TheTravelVlogger
@TheTravelVlogger 4 жыл бұрын
The camino is not too expensive so not sure if you need to save for several years. Just follow the symbols, the boats run in the summer so just know they don't run all year round. Albergues are for camino pilgrims and are very cheap, but you can only stay one night at the camino rate. Hope that helps.
