Hey, good to see this series come to a nice happy conlcusion. It's weird to think how much time goes by isn't it. It feels like only yesterday I was watching you make the skull of the Sallet. Look how fare you've come. And no need to worry. I will wait ten years for your uploads happily. Let's be honest, your upload schedule is much better than mine haha. As always wonderful to watch a video on another one of your wonderfully crafted pieces of armour. Take care John. From: Sir Bancroft.

Dude, I discovered your channel like two weeks ago, and I'm hooked. I am somewhat thinking of getting into armorsmithing myself, but I am hesitant to get started, as I really don't know what I'm doing. I was also wondering if you could give me some advice on where to get sheet metal for a good price. Any tips would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for doing what you do!

Noice! But why didn’t people use perforated visors historically?
@LivingManuscript11 ай бұрын
Thanks! There are a few examples of perforated visors or eyeslits which resemble modern perforated steel. Although there are some examples of essentially the same thing, such as the bicoquet in Berlin, and some late great bascinets feature visors comprised entirely of holes. One reason I suspect they seem to appear less frequently than more "conventional" visors is that punching so many holes was likely a long process, today perforated steel like I used here is done by machines :)

Hello I have a question if you don't mind answering. I am making my own sallet as well and I was wondering how to cut out the right shapes for the two halves that make the top part of the sallet. Did you find your patterns online or did you guesstimate them? Thanks. Your sallet looks awesome btw. As well as the rest of your harness that you posted on ig. Amazing job!
@LivingManuscript3 жыл бұрын
I'm glad you like it all :) I initially used a pattern I found on the Armour Archive to make the hemispheric top, and then I made the rest on my own

Might be late to ask but what do you use for your dishing forms
@LivingManuscript3 жыл бұрын
Not too late at all :) I still use some forms I made in high school that are made of some thick steel pipe welded to a steel plate. I rounded the edges on the pipe so that it doesn't chew up the steel as I work it

An excellent helmet! The video could use a tiny bit more Frolicsomeness. But that's okay. The cardboard provides the minimum FIBER requirement.
