I was confused as to why there were two Jacksons until Nick introduced himself. They look so much alike at that angle.

20:59 Hi Peter, I know I'll sound like a nerd but I'm telling you to keep you informed not to correct you 😭 Jumping the shark isn't starting off with your best leaving you with nothing to follow it up with, Jumping The Shark means doing some outlandish (usually ridiculous) thing as a last-ditch effort. It refers to an episode of a sitcom called Happy Days, they were losing a lot of watch time on tv so they made one of the characters who had a whole arc about not needing to get the attention and approval of others literally jump shark-infested water in look of attention, defeating the purpose of his character development. (All of this to stay popular)

Replayed my cartridge of Yellow version over the course of a couple weeks. Gotta say, it was very enjoyable despite its slow pace (I’ve been playing Emerald Rogue for a while, so massive change of pace). I did a lot less grinding than I remembered having to do, and beat the Elite Four with an very underleveled team- my highest level was lower than Lorelei’s lowest level. VERY satisfying.

the phrase "jumping the shark" comes from the show happy days, when the character Fonzie jumps over a shark on water skis. It basically means what peter said where they did something so ridiculous that it shows theyre running out of ideas and are unable to come up with new engaging things

7:16 hi pod guys it's the resident psychology nerd again, Much unlike last time with the "Homopole", Jordan does actually have a point here with some scientific credibility (for once). One of the more prominent traits that make humans and chimps more intelligent than other animals is that we have mirror neuron systems in our brains. These brain systems make it much easier to understand others becuase they are the parts of the brain that allow us to feel the emotions of other people we witness (they are special neurons that allow us to "mirror" actions and emotions we witness). It's also what makes humans and chimps very social animals as we evolved these neurons to help us to understand other members of our "tribe" more easily. Jordan probably gets hyped up by the chimps moreso than a giraffe becuase his brain was able to identify what the chimps were doing as an emotion (excitement) compared to the giraffe becuase his brain didn't comprehend what the giraffe was doing as an emotion that could be mirrored. (much like last time this is total nerd emoji word soup, but i hope at least someone found this interesting)

The last few years I've only played Pokemon games doing Nuzlocke challenges which I absolutely love but I can't imagine going back to playing without these self-imposed challenges. Also I've never played the original Gold/Silver/Crystal but I've heard many argue that for their time, Gen 2 games were really pushing the technology of the Gameboy color, as the developers had to fit 2 regions into a small cartridge.

Granted Im 6'3" (190.5 cm) 190 lbs (86.18 kg) so I'm not exactly a small person, but I tried to order bigger things and it still was small. It was a lot healthier though and didn't taste as good, but thats probably just because I'm american.

On Poppts question of the week: When people were hunter gatherers and didn't have cultivated crops and such, their lifespans were much lower and they were much more prone to diseases caused by dietary deficiencies like lack of fiber and vitamin c. Also the food pyramid and dietary guides like that historically were sponsored by industries like milk farms and bakery chains to try and encourage the populous to purcahse more of their goods

The thing with Pokémon is that they found the infinite money glitch of being the most popular media franchise base s around 1000 merchandisable characters where they will purely make money by just making more games that contain new Pokémon which in almost the way fifa has a 60 dollar game with so many micro transactions except the game is basically an add for plushies cards and basically anything else you can mass produce so as long as they make good Pokémon designs and don’t make a game egregiously bad (which they can do by just making very little innovation) they make profits and large ones at that

I mean I think it’s not entirely accurate to say pokemon tries nothing new. Even in recent titles they’ve done a bit of open world stuff (though not implemented particularly well imo) and Pokémon being in the overworld was an interesting change. Even back with gen 7 before that they tried some new stuff with having totems instead of the traditional gym battles. But the main issue imo is that the core gameplay has just gotten uninteresting. Catching and battle mechanics remain mostly unchanged for the longest time. That’s why tears of the kingdom feels so different, your abilities and mechanics have been overhauled, which changes how you interact with EVERYTHING. But a Pokémon battle now is essentially the same as a Pokémon battle 20 years ago. The one exception is legends arceus, which did lots of innovation to the series core gameplay, but with how underpolished it was (not like that’s uncommon for modern Pokémon) it’s clear it’s just a side game that wasn’t going to significantly affect the main series gameplay despite how much many fans enjoyed the new stuff it brought to the table. And any other “changes” they try to make to the battle system are really nothing more than one off gimmicks (megas, z moves, dynamax, now terastalization)

As someone who kept up with the Pokemon anime, I think the good moments still hold up, but the average episode is just really boring and repetitive. I think Sinnoh is about where they start shaking up the formula with more drama and story but it still falls into the old formula a ton.

I think i'm just a bit bored of the pokemon gameplay. The earlier games aren't better either, if i go back to play them i am stil bored. I think i have just played it too much, but I still like pokemon for the nostalgia and cuteness, and they also have great spin-offs like pokemon go and mystery dungeon. The enjoymnt of the main games is just over for me, but I don't think that's sad, it was bound to happen one day.

Well to the Pokémon point Pokémon has been doing new things but the execution has been weird. Like gen 6 added battle gimmicks gen 7 added no gyms and gen 9 we had the open world and also 3 main stories rather than just gyms. So Pokémon has been doing some things different there execution just hasn’t been the best. Also the game company doesn’t have a lot of time to make the new games because they are always on a tight schedule so unlike tears of the kingdom they didn’t have a lot of time to update everything
