Taking you to the offbeat side of Landour & Mussoorie.
After a laidback 5 days in Landour, it was time to rough it out a bit. And while on one side, Landour is a laidback hill station dotted with old colonial bungalows, not far from it is a private wildlife reserve. The brainchild of conservationist Sejal Worah and land-owner Vipul Jain, Jabarkhet Nature Reserve (JNR), is a privately owned forest, that aims to demonstrate a model that combines conservation, education and ecotourism, while generating economic benefits for the local communities.
Giving me company today is Virendra, a local lad who now works as a naturalist with the reserve. Viru is just exceptional with his knowledge of the reserve and its rich flora and fauna. Aur ek reliable naturalist aur guide hone ke saath saath he's also full of stories about the life in this region. And just like that we decided to hike to Viru's native village called Kolti. A small idyllic village perched in the middle of these vast mountains. Inaccessible by road, it is a traditional Pahaadi gaon at a trekking distance of about 6 kilometers (2 hours) from Landour.
Yet again this experience made me realize that travel for me will never be about the number of destinations I go to. It'll always be about collecting stories, accumulating experiences and gaining a broader perspective.
And that's why I don't travel, I UNTRAVEL.
