Now that we know Dumbledore's backstory I watch the Harry Potter series differently. For instance at the end of Philosophers stone when Dumbledore says 'it takes a lot of courage to stand up to your enemies but even more to stand up to your friends'. Now I see a sadness there that I never saw before. And now I think about his relationship with Gellert.

Until the moment he doesn’t and the thing breaks because of that I feel. He witnessed Gellert’s cruelty and unwillingness to change and that did it for him.
