VERY CLOSE LIGHTNING STRIKES - Severe thunderstorm in Brazil, 30th December 2015

Got a real feel of what tropical weather can be like. A storm with more close CGs in the space of an hour than I would typically see in a year back at home
Recorded south of Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais, Brazil on the 30th of December 2015 on a GoPro Hero 4 Black and my phone. Audio recorded separately with Rode Stereo Videomic plugged into camcorder.

0:37 - think that one was a positive bolt 0:55 - that bolt had an unusual path to the ground 2:02 - that one looked interesting as well

It might have been! I think the strike at 1:45 is positive as it had long continuing current this storm produced some penny sized hail too

I honestly think that not a single one of them are actual positive bolts. I get that some of them show some similar characteristics (like continuous-looking current or gunshot sounding thunder) but I'm 99% sure those are just higher amp negative strikes. If you look at the most "positive looking" ones in the video frame-by-frame, you can see that they still have the huge amount of branching close to the ground, and also the very not-smooth zigzaggy channel that negative strikes usually have in general. I'd like to suggest watching some of the content from The Lightning Hunter's channel, you will see that the differences between these types of bolts are pretty surprising! :)

+ThatStormEnthusiast Thank you! These strikes were so loud and frequent, I didn't even feel safe in the building I was staying in :/ The full storm lasted over an hour and had way more close strikes than seen here, and I plan to upload the entire video when I get the time. Thanks for watching!
