Devar Magan was a movie potrait conflict between 2 brothers. It never potrait insults together another community. That movie was way ahead of time in terms of screeen play, dialoage, music and cinematography. I have watched Mari Selvaraj movies but it lacks screenplay, entertainment values and usually lags.

Problem is people see older films through the lens of today's society. Thevar Magan was quite progressive for the time in which it was taken. It was made to show the people with caste feeling that violence and bravado is useless and only education can lead to progress. Same thing happened with Mouna Ragam which was one of the few mainstream movies in those times which had an assertive strong female lead. But today's youngsters or feminists like Nakkalaites channel troll it for being a film on male domination.

In the movie Devar Magan, Nasser gets killed by Kamal, and when Vadivel and others offer to go to jail with a false confession to protect Kamal, Kamals tells Vadivel "Yethukuttadhu ellam Podhum Ya, Poyee pulla kuttingala padikka veyinga" translates to "Enough of sacrifices, let me go to jail for the crime I have committed, educate your children". This sums it all dear Mari Selvaraj brother. I can feel the pain when you said "Negatives and positives" of Devar Magan. We could feel that your mouth became literally dry when you said that. Empathies to you. However please refrain from branding Kamal sir as Mel Jaadhi or whatever. I had some regards for you but you've lost it today, Mari Selvaraj did not criticize Mr. Kamal. Mr. Kamal is a privileged man from an upper caste for him film making is an act purely. But for a film maker like Mr.Mari Selvaraj it's different, it is an avenue of showcasing his pain, his political statement it's more than just ART. So as a reviewer it's important for you to understand this and talk. If Kamal was in denial of what Mari spoke then he would have countered even very politely on stage so stop making drama, he completely understands Mari's intention and thought behind this movie, it's more of a movement than art itself. Kamal went up on stage and said this movie is also my politics not just Mari's politics from which we understand that he might have gone wrong in the past with his movies but this particular movie is our politics too. Idhu punna sorira vishayam illa Prashanth. You need a higher level of maturity to understand Mari Selvaraj's words and art. Come up with a better thought process next time.
