So, the old French couple are our neighbours, Henri and Genevieve. Henri is 84 and a lifelong cyclist. He was president of the local cycling race club for 26 years until just a year ago and stays involved. He's hugely supportive of us, our family, our business and Jamie's racing. He didn't race the 1926 Tour (if he had, he'd be about 120 years old!) but he did ride the whole of the famous hardest ever stage (Bayonne to Luchon, 205 miles, 23k ft) about 50 years ago, the same stage you guys recreated. In short, he's a legend and we love him to bits.

Luchon Bayonne is a classical randonnée organized, I believe, every two years. So if you are a simple randonneur (well, a good trained one), you can try the 320 km with the legendaries passes of Peyresourde, Aspin, Tourmalet, Aubisque and Osquich.

I enjoy watching your videos as a cyclist.... but I have even more pleasure watching them as a Frenchman! ;') even when you declare that you love Switzerland... on images that were apparently filmed in Châtel ;'p which is in France... But yeah, in Europe the exact location of the borders is not really a big deal anymore, which is part of the charm. Thanks for visiting, and sharing.

Was in France twice last year for some cycling. Was wonderful. The secret to navigating the French is quite simple. You MUST ALWAYS greet everyone with a “bonjour’. If you don’t, they consider it to be very rude and insulting, and you will be treated rudely in return. I found the French people to be very warm and accommodating to my lack of language skills. (At least while I was still in their company.)

As a female/wife (your wife is a woman of few words), there are times when it should be a boys trip. No wife, no kids. She said it well that if she really wanted to go it would have been possible. She's just awesome and recognizes the importance of you having your own experiences outside of being a family man. It goes for both sides, but she clearly understands the value of what you are doing. Lucky, lucky, man.

I did something very similar but at the Giro. Yep, being in the moment, up the Stelvio I realised that all my years on a bike , training, racing and just riding was all for that moment . I wept with joy. I live ,at least try to . Live in the moment with every breath and its because of riding and my relationship with it ( riding) made me value every second I have on this earth . Your Vlogs never disappoint. Thankyou so much.

The village of Châtel (with Thibault Pinot) is in France, near the border with Switzerland, but still in France... We, French people, are not very good with other languages but if you learn the "magic" words "bonjour", "merci" "au revoir" (hello, thank you, goodbye), you will be welcome by almost all French people, even in broken English... 😁
