This is a really cool mine. The old ones have a vibe all their own and this one sure has it. Winding passages, Strange formations and side tunnels and the appearance that the miners did not remove any rock they did not have to. That is why some prospects along the main tunnel are so narrow. The must have done a lot of the work by hand. Very cool mine. If a mine is to be haunted this one take the cake!

I'm guessing the skinny and wide tracks outside is because the connecting rail has been moved. Some cool colors in there, especially the blue stuff. That is odd to see so many carbide signatures without dates.
@TVRExploring
@TVRExploring 5 жыл бұрын
Yes, you're right about the rail. It just looked funny... There was an odd mix of minerals in this one. The reports describing the mine commented on it as well. I love the carbide writing, but it kills me when they don't put dates. Like you said, it is odd to have that much writing with no dates.

One would think it's a family mine given that some seem to be 1950's and the most recent is 1981. Probably interest lost a generation or two in (elsewhere in the world undercutting whatever resource it is), and the last tag was some grandkid visiting to see what the old man was talking about.

With such a big air flow does that mean there's a end hole passing it through?
@jasonswaglord1498
@jasonswaglord1498 2 жыл бұрын
Airflow is the best when you explore mines. No airflow and still water are the worst signs you can encounter in the mine. Airflow means clean air and good ventilation. No airflow means bad air, bad ventilation and that means dangerous gases can get stuck in the mine.

Hi, I have come to the conclusion that miners were a lot shorter back in the day lol. Thank you. I'm glad you love the videos... Yes, there was a mine that I refused to go into a couple of years ago. It was flooded almost to the top and the water was full of rotten timbers and such that I would have tripped over. Also, the gas meter was alerting before I even got into the mine. I draw the line at swimming in an abandoned mine. I have turned back at least 7 or 8 times. A couple of times for bad air and a couple of times because it was dangerous to the point of suicide.

Some rock climbing grear would be useful. Might be about anything left up or down of the main shaft. Or you might try smoke to find hidden entrances from the out side. As it looks like a complicated and well explored load. That must have other horizontal shafts. Finding them might result in finding some antiques.

Thank you. Many of the abandoned mines are worked off and on after they were initially abandoned. It all depends on commodity prices. That's why you often see survey markers in these mines as the mining companies are poking around to assess the viability of resurrecting an old mine. Given how well everything is preserved underground in the dry mines, some of the stuff that looks brand new is decades old...

What exactly is "Gobbing"? (@2:32)
@TVRExploring
@TVRExploring 5 жыл бұрын
"Gobbing" is the carefully stacked rock along the sides. It is easier to stack heavy waste rock out of the way along the side than to haul it all of the way out.

why is timber in some spots and not in others?
@TVRExploring
@TVRExploring 5 жыл бұрын
It depends on how sketchy the miners thought the ground was. Timbering mines is a lot of work and it is expensive. So, if the miners think the ground is stable enough, they will not bother. They don't want to die though, so if they are unsure about some ground inside of the mine, they will place the timber sets.

I live just across the Passaic River from North Arlington, NJ the supposed home of one of the oldest copper mines in the US, I have tried to get as much info on it but not a whole lot. It was called the Schuyler Copper Mine and dates back to 1715, so if anyone can give me more information it would be very much appreciated ! Thank you to all those who do there best to keep that part of our history alive and documented !

Just curious, that adit entrance looks kinda small, are you having to sit on your rear and kinda scoot in or is it smaller than that? Nvmd, as I’m typing you’re talking about how low it is in there.. as always, I enjoy the vids

Note: The variation in rail widths is due to distortion and damage - there was only one gauge that was used otherwise it wouldn't make any sense.

@TVRExploring

I'm not sure what was being mined here as the records are not clear. It is narrow and low because the miners that ran that adit back were doing so by hand.

TVR- I have to ask this question, it just begging. How often do you guys run into your little "Rattle Buddies" when you're out there tromping around? I've only seen you mention it once. Just Curious. -Shane McGuire

@@TVRExploring- Yes, i thought so. And... you added something very important to understand about Rattlesnakes. I used to do some volunteer work for Butte County Wild Animal Recovery. Rattlesnakes are very docile. They will acknowledge your presence with their defensive warning, but if you give them a chance to get out of your way, they will. They would rather use their venom load on prey, not for defense. So, that said, unless you corner one, or step on one, they will happily vacate the area until you are long gone. For the new explorers, please don't kill them. They are one of the many ecological solutions to rodent control...
