My favorite thing from CES earlier this year was Instax was offering to give you a 360 camera if you give them an old GoPro or action cam. That was the biggest shade and best deal. I’ll bring my Hero 4 just incase they do it again at CES 2020.

Kleverson Royther oh since the frame is a 360 circle it frames it horizontal. I think showing this in post would be more clear. The screen on camera will usually behave like this on any camera

​@@BeefyBoulders I think it's a hard thing to show on video. If they display the footage itself and talk about it, people would think "hmm, that footage looks just like any other". It got bit clearer after she pointed out that it was tiltimg the image too far (at around 7:08).

@@KleversonRoyther Ok, what she meant is, that the horizon is not actually kept on line with the screen when filming (because that would be confusing for the operator), but after you review the filmed footage it will get in line with the horizon if you choose to do so. I assume you could turn that function off if desired, right?

I’ve had the max for a few months, use at least 3 times a week and really like. I would buy again. I recommend having at least a second battery if you use on the regular basis along with the two battery usb charger

I have the GoPro 6 and I’m debating between the 8 and the Max. I absolutely love the hyper smooth on the 8, and I’m also blown away by the cool cinematic mind warp capabilities of the max. It’s just a question of one consistently using the max for its abilities beyond the initial cool factor. I was thinking of how cool it would be on a bike ride or walking around town or playing with my nieces.

I hope u don't miss out to test the 6d(sperical) sound on 360 mode without key farming, so we literally can notice where the sound is come from (side, front, or behind). 2nd, Water proof footage. 3rd, video quality compare with insta360 one x HDR mode. 4. Thank you for the video. I just ordered a GoPro Max over an Insta360 One X2. It was a difficult choice, as it seems the later produced Insta360 seems superior to the GoPro, especially when comparing the editing features and capabilities. That said I chose the GoPro based on logevity in the market place and the fact that I already own and pay for GoPro support. My question to you, is basically did I make the wrong choice? Will GoPro add some of the excellent creativity features such as those found in Insta360's Shot Lab to GoPro Quik? Or, is there a way to create "trick shots" (for lack of a better term, with the GoPro and Quik, or Final Cut Pro? Lastly, has anyone tried to utilize GoPro's video footage in Insta360's Editor? Not sure if they are compatible, but if not they should be. Sorry for such a long question, but I do hope you can provide some insight

How is it possible for you to show 24fps footage and 30fps footage in the same video whilst trying to demonstrate the native look of both framerates? Presumably you edited this in 30fps so all the 24fps footage will look choppy due to stop frames unless you converted it in post (in which case you're not demonstrating the native look of the 24fps functionality anyway). Or is there something I'm missing?

Nice review, Becca! Thanks for the in-depth. I have a few questions: -How are the thermals? Does it get warm? With the waterproofing, I was curious how it handles in direct sunlight and long record times. Though, I doubt I'd use it longer than 10mins at a time except for the hyperlapse mode. But you never know how this might be applicable to a production setting. -How quickly do the batteries recharge? - Do you expect the horizon roll correction issue to be fixed in a future firmware update? EDIT: -Did you try both Android and Apple usage of the app? Any thoughts there? -What are the export render times like on the app (iPhone or Pixel)?

What’s the stuff that can be done with the GoPro Max that cannot be done with the GoPro Fusion with just the camera and the phone app? I am asking because I will unlikely spend hours on the computer to master videos. I want to do mini planet photos and short videos that I can reframe and control after. Also hoping for a friendly camera that my kids (even the 4 year old that loves taking photos with the iPhone) can use. So regardless of the screen (definitely more friendly than no screen), what’s the difference between the Fusion and Max in terms of a workflow with the phone? Nice video, btw. A joy to watch. 4k 60fps in the max will probably be available once the the 8 dies down or the next max generation. it's definitely capable since the 8 and max have the same processor chip, there just wouldn't be a point of an action camera at that point lol so now I'm guessing it won't be any time soon, but at least they gave us what was it 1080p or 1440p 50fps max?

1:17 wow, the 180° 1080p video out of a Rylo or a insta360 one X was not even near that quality. I think the problem with the 4K Hero mode is those are 4K sensors and with such a fisheye lens, how do you get rid of so much distortion? I think 1440 was kind of a sweet spot there. What do you think?

The horizon leveling works fine. Almost. Because it can be better. I beleive that the problem you faced was because (Horizon leveling is required for situation when the camera pivots around like when a motercycle takes a corner but in your case there was no actual horizon visible due to the presence of trees ) the camera took the terrain as the horizon as there's no actual horizon visible so as it's clearly visible from the shot that it was tilting according to the sloppy terrain. So I believe that you used a wrong situation to check the horizon leveling feature but because of that the camera's flaw could be noticed. I'm not good at solving problems but what I thought of fixing this problem was to saperate the way horizon leveling works on the camera and integrate it with gyro so that the pair of sensors work like a north pointing magnet inside a glass globe (Like Technically) So regardless how the camera moves, when the shutter is pressed, the gyro sensor values are recorded and reflected in the processed output image. I hope this comment was of use and if yes can you add me in your GoPro Max Community or any Forums? Beethovan Benny

Greetings from Texas! I Truly enjoyed this review! I was torn between the insta360 vs the gopro. While the app development I believe to be leaning towards the insta360 the pricing is insane! And most aftermarket vendors providing lots of favoritism towards GoPro (them being the heavy hitter for longer years) paired with the pricing incentive of GoPro I have been won over by GP. Just got the Max a few hours and was playing with the editing software on my iPhone. Curious why you seem to think its editing software is better than the Insta360 One X software. I saw a friend use it and it seemed to have more features (speeding up the footage etc). Am I missing something? Why do you prefere the Gopro software over the Insta360?

Can the GoPro Max shoot bracketed photos? I am thinking of getting a Ricoh Theta 360° camera, but the battery is not replaceable and the memory is internal only. Plus it only really works tethered to a phone. I don't care so much about video. I need bracketed still shots to make true HDR still images for use in 3D applications.
