Before my husband died I asked him to send me signs that he was in heaven. I was driving to work one day and my truck smelled like I had brewed coffee in it. I don't drink coffee, but he did. And then this song came on the radio. He loved Ray Charles. I bawled my eye's out all the way to work.

This was the first song that my gran and grandad once danced to for their 70th anniversary. The first time I heard it was as it was played during his funeral. I don’t think I’ve ever cried as much as I did that entire service. I can’t help but shed a few tears whenever hearing this song but they are no longer tears of sadness but tears of appreciation. I was lucky to have ever known a man like him in my life. It’s a shame that I will continue my life without him in it, without him knowing which direction my life will go. It’s nearly coming up to the 1 year anniversary since his passing and I would give anything for him to just see how far I have come in growing up, growing physically and mentally. I think he would be proud. I may never meet anyone as interesting and funny as him. I would give anything to have one more conversation with him. We miss you grandad ❤

@@georgebalnozan2102 In 1994, Ray Charles sat down for an interview with NBC’s Bob Costas and gave a scathing critique of Elvis Presley. “To say that Elvis was so great and so outstanding, like he’s the king…the king of what?” Charles said. “I know too many artists that are far greater”-singers like Nat King Cole, who got assaulted by white audiences for performing rock music, while Elvis received widespread acclaim. “He was doing our kind of music,” Charles said. “So what the hell am I supposed to get so excited about?”

@@georgebalnozan2102 Now you said Ray "stole" Don Gibson's music. That's your opinion but it's not based on facts. In an interview Don knew Ray was doing his songs and asked him to do one particular song. Ray turned it down because it had a link to Ronnie Millsap and he didn't want to deal with that. By the way Elvis also did a rendition of Gibson's song. Elvis is one of the greatest entertainers that ever lived and no one can take that from him but did he give credit for those songs like Ray did to Gibson?

@@georgebalnozan2102 Your so upset that Ray said that about Elvis. 🤣 Well Charles was in that era and that's his opinion. You based on feelings not giving me a shred of evidence that Ray "stole" Gibson's music when I told you that he said that in an interview with Ralph Emery. Your so fixated about bringing Charles down. He's a legend. He's so good that Elvis took a couple of his songs for himself. You wouldn't do that if he was just a "piano player." Plus you have to agree that Black music was stiffled by a industry that didn't favor them. So when certain Black artists see Elvis doing something that they were doing all along, of course they would be bitter. It's a fact not an opinion. Now your trying so hard to pick out Black artists who you consider "stole" White music. Personally that's your hill to die on. All I know that Ray didn't steal Gibson's music like you assumed. Matter of fact, like Dolly/Whitney situation, Gibson was glad that he sung a song he written. My original comment was about the greatness of Ray Charles, you tried to belittle him. History has proven you wrong because he was an influence in American music and culture.

A wonderful song by my favorite country artist, Don Gibson. Ray Charles interpretation is hard to beat. The sadness and suffering in his voice reminds me of a wounded animal. I have tears in my eyes every time I hear it.

I bought the Ray Charles album that sold the most copies - his COUNTRY WESTERN album. I played that album so much (as my every favorite) all the way through high school. I would put my arms in a circle and pretend I was dancing around the room with my one true love. What INCREDIBLE MEMORIES!!! I love this song as my two sisters and I sang it before 5,000 in the Austin City Dome.

In 62 took my first job after college in S.C. and as always this song helped me a lot. I was lonely ever since 54 when my dad disappeared. He was a good man. I asked God to send me " someone to love --a soulmate - a wife" . She came into this dummy's life for 62 yrs and went to heaven 8 mos. ago and again I'm lonely and still crying so I looked the song up again and it fits my world again ! Somehow it is a sad but comforting song still .but, my real luck in life was from God who answered my prayer and sent me an angel !

10/24/14............On 10/17/11, I lost my best friend and husband of 27 years! He finally lost his battle with Bi-Polar Depression when he completed suicide. A battle he had fought since his teenage years, but worsened in 2000 with a complete mental break that had landed him in the hospital for 2 months...we had been married for 16 years at the time. The following 11 years were filled with the constant battle to keep him alive, when all he wanted most of the time was to be out of the horrible pain of depression! It would be the same each year when fall came and summer was gone...His birthday and the holiday's approaching, brought deep seated pain and sorrow and the battle was in full force, lasting until spring when it would finally let up enough to find a few months of joy. Then it would start all over again... But on that year...I was not as strong and wondered if I could go through it yet again... he must have know... It was 7 days before his 60th birthday, which would have been 10/24, that I found him. So Happy Birthday My Sweet, Loving and Spiritual Husband...I know you have finally found peace, but I still miss you so much! Over the past 3 years since you've been gone, I listen to this song over and over and over again, because....I can't stop loving you! So...I'll just live my life in dreams of yesterday... Honey, they tell me that time will heal this broken heart...but time has stood still...Since we've been apart! God hold you in His arms until we meet again! "Love, Your #1 Wife" (As I always signed my cards and love letters)

@@jp3923 You bet, and I'm sure that Don Gibson marveled at Ray's interpretation of this classic, and as well marveled at the royalties he hopefully received (You never know how that's going to turn out in the music industry -- a lot of rip offs over the years). Have a great day.
