Remember when all the tv channels shut down early and HBO was on until about 3am with nudity after midnight? Ohhhhhh, the good times!!!!

7:38 HBO used that intro all the way up to 2002? I don't remember it running that long. 20 years?
@ac_junior725 жыл бұрын
I do remember that intro at 4:25, the few after I can't really recall - but the "HBO FEATURE MOVIE" graphic at 14:57 I know. THEN can the 1982 intro...I personally thought at the time this was the most amazing thing I have ever seen..lol. Even the behind the scenes special on how they created it was incredible.

That is true, also for that second intro you spoke about, did you mean 4:57?

The tenth opening was my favorite nostalgically because of what my then toddler daughter would do when it came on. But number sixteen is awesome. I like how gradual the aesthetic shift was at first, and you can kinda see where they gradually started phasing out the whole bombastic 70s horn and wah wah guitar sound that the original logos had going on in favor of synths. Also, I'm amazed they aired that one HBO logo (y'all know the one) for 20 whole years. I guess it was just that timeless/memorable in its execution and that's impressive. Even more impressive is the fact they paid homage to it in a new logo.

Wow, cool! The first three were clearly done with Scanimate, a technology invented by Lee Harrison III and his team in Denver CO. At this time in history, these spots could only have been created at Computer Image Corp. in Denver, Dolphin Productions in New York, or Image West in Hollywood, those were the only places in the US with Scanimates. My guess is this was from Dolphin in New York, and probably involved either Fred Kessler, Jeff Kleiser, Mike Saz or Richard Froman as Scanimate animators, and possibly Ron Hays as Art Director. I started animating on Scanimate at Image West in 1981 and I don't remember seeing any of these HBO spots on old company demo reels. Plenty of others worked at Dolphin also, these are just my best guesses. Thanks for posting this! -ed kramer CGI History Channel

Ah, the days when cable TV truly was a luxury. I miss the days before 1986 when HBO was actually part of most standard cable packages. You had to pay extra for Cinemax, Showtime, TMC, etc... Hell, back in those days, The Disney Channel was even a premium channel that cost extra.

I'd forgotten about so many of these until now. For a split second I was back in an era where people weren't scared, we knew how to have fun, and the world seemed more orderly. Yeah, we lived under the specter of nuclear armageddon and AIDS was cutting a wide swath through a generation, but compared to today, it still somehow seemed better.

The last and current one is Very Triumphant in its nature and music. A Total Recall to see the most iconic HBO ad in it. Yet I tell you the truth; That same 1982 ad is to HBO and its fans as was Thriller is to Michael Jackson and his fans. The Irony is that both was released in October 1982...😳

Great compilation! But you forgot the most important logo: The Sign-Off! Before it went to a 24/7 format,HBO signed off at midnight just like the broadcast networks. It was an animated piece featuring people preparing for bed:a clock and a watch being set,a pillow being fluffed,a dog snuggling in,kids being checked,man yawning,etc. My favorite part is a a shot of the Sandman,which is an old man swinging from a hook throwing out sand! That ended in 1981 when they switched to the current format. This was so good,I thought you'd end with that. Hey,you can always re-edit.

Hey, if you don’t know what is the info of the 2nd and 3rd openings, then just go to the browser and search for CLG Wiki. There you will find out the description. If you don’t have the availability and scare factor in these two openings, you don’t have to need a scare factor in every opening. If you remember the description, please edit the video for the description of these two openings.

What is the "Scare Factor" suppose to mean??? I don't get that...
@TheVideoWizard23 жыл бұрын
On the CLG Wiki, there used to be a rating system to determine how scary a logo was. The highest rating, which meant the absolute scariest logos, was Nightmare. They stopped using the Scare Factor sometime in 2019 or 2020, I believe.
@radornkeldam6 жыл бұрын
Excuse my ignorance, but, what's the deal with all the "scare factor" talk? It seems so random to me to rate the perceived scaryness of company logo animations of all things... what's the point? I'm so confused
@TheVideoWizard26 жыл бұрын
+radornkeldam Oh, it's CLG Wiki's way of determining of how scary a logo is. It's really helpful.
@radornkeldam6 жыл бұрын
I remain confused. Why even do that? Who needs this rating? What logo could be so scary to justify this sort of thing?
@TheVideoWizard26 жыл бұрын
+radornkeldam For your first and second questions, they do this in order to make sure some people don't get scared. Some people as in kids or others. For your third question, I hope you know the Nightmare Logos. That term originated from the scare factor: "NIGHTMARE". Nightmare logos are logos that when you see them, they give you nightmares. Some logos include: VID (Russia), CBS Productions' 3rd logo, and Walt Disney Home Entertainment's 1st logo.
