Why ALCOHOL & Training MMA Don’t Mix (MTV’s Caged)

This episode of MTV’s Caged demonstrates exactly why alcohol and training MMA doesn't make a good combo. If you want to be a successful MMA fighter, you cannot drink alcohol regularly unless you want to sabotage your chances. When you train hard and drink alcohol, you may end up in the hospital like amateur fighter Wes Branch.

Clearly very intelligent, very quick witted and funny, while having your head on straight and sending positivity and reality. @@bubbakushingtonIII Very much so, I think I appreciate how down to Earth he is the most tho. Keeping positive vibes, and throwing life lessons in there. You can tell he's one hell of a coach, and those under him are lucky to have him. Instead of just chasing $$$ he's making a positive change in a lot of lives I would imagine reshaping how some people think.

Obviously at a certain point alcohol can destroy not only your career but your entire life. Although, Bisping was known for drinking a lot and he was a champ. He even said he would drink a couple beers the night before a fight. Anthony Smith is a drinker too. He is drinking Busch Light during every podcast he does with Mike and he also said he has a couple the night before a fight. Jon Jones is know for having substance abuse problems. Almost everyone in PRIDE used pain killers. A lot of them drank and smoked too. The Diaz brothers and many others are big smokers who have successful careers. It's a very fine line to walk but addicts and users can find success in athletics. Even LT, who is one of the greatest defensive players in the history of football, was smoking crack among other things

I have seen so many guy in the gym that want to compete but can't stop drinking and then name drop elite level fighter that drink, as if they are one of them. Majority of us are nothing more than average or above average, if you are serious about competing then drop the smoke, alcohol and partying every week and be consistent with your training. So many guy more talented than me end up losing all the time and quitting because they couldn't drop their vices.

Steven gives just as good life advice as he does mma. I was drinking alcoholically by early 17, knew there was something different about me but ignored it. 2 duis, lost passion for everything I loved and no sense of purpose at all. I’m now 27 with 1 year and 3 months of sobriety. If you’re young reading this, drug addiction and alcoholism are a serious disease, the sooner you nip it in the bud the better your life will be. If you are currently struggling there is help, and you deserve it.

Wow, Wes is dropping the ball man, in the ring and with his sons mom. If he grew up even just a little bit, he could be doing really well. even with no care to his diet he wins fights and since he has a “fun” attitude that positivity could probably have helped his sons mom study harder and pass the test Man, this episode was so sad to watch, she was so sad about failing the test and so desperate to get attention from Wes and he was even look for women that one night, like he has a baby moms that he could have hit up if he man’d up It’s like if you can’t handle the heat don’t go in the kitchen, you have a child and it’s no longer about what you want but how you two can continue seeing the best in each other and making it work Ah, I hope people watch this and can learn what not to do

Yeah bones woulda lost a long long time ago had it not been for a combination of PEDs, ufc favoritism and , usage of scumbag illegal techniques like oblique kicks, eye pokes and anything else he can get away with. He prolly would have lost to thiago and arguably looked very beatable the first gustaffson fight and looked like shit and lost to reyes. He got chased out of 205 by a nobody. Had he not had such issues he would be undisputed the greatest mixed martial artist of all time but he fucked it up.

Some of John Wesley’s maturity needs to rub off on Wes. He wants to be a fighter but acts like a 18 year old who just went to college out of state. It’s sad to see, especially if it’s your friend who you’re trying to follow your dreams alongside.

Hey steve,, love your videos and your insights to MMA. Just wondering when explain the details to the techniques shown on said videos could you possibly draw circles, squares, and or highlight body parts your talking about and what directions the should be going. Kinda like in sports highlights how the analysts pause the videos and makes yellow circles around the players and draws arrows of where they're going? Once again love your videos and your knowledge of the sport, keep it up bro. 👍🏿

The exposure you always talk about for these businesses the fighters try to get sponsorships from is nonexistent.
