Actually ETKs win against Malay and Vietnamese Battle Elephants by far, and they become more cost effective in this patch. The problem was Valas outnumbered so heavily when pushing.

The trample damage also takes a big role in large scale fights. Malays doing the malay thing: overwhelming with numbers xD

in a theoretical 1v1, ETK wins. But when there are elephants dealing trample damage (25% of 18, so 4.5 damage that isnt effected by armor, possibly to multiple ETKs from 1 elephant) the elephants win. Malay elephants are really bad vs archer units, but good vs melee units, especially in a setting like BF where players can get an insane eco up and running before fighting

@@CornBredCrusader You are making wrong the maths. Elephant trample damage is 25% of the damage AFTER the armor. So, 18 attack vs 13 armor: (18-13) x25% = 1,25 damage.

Another issue is the amount of stables vs castles, and the distance of the production buildings. The stables were right on top of viper, while his castles were far from the action. ETK wins every day with less stables and closer castles.

Why no Ironclad? Last time against vikings with teutons it's also a tech you skipped +4 melee armor is no joke when your siege gets dived. Against FU elite inca eagles BBC's go from 5 to 7 hits, trebs (unpacked) go from 9 to 12. ETK's are pretty much cost effective against every melee unit except samurai, leitis, cataphracts, persian war elephants, and dravidians after wootz steel. Jaguar warrior I'm not sure about since ETK's got cheaper since the patch, and may be cost effective now. Halbs are still the best choice against battle elephants though.

@@mrchr1s94 Too micro intensive in larger numbers like this, malay elephants are also dirt cheap, so it's like trying to convert champions or something at that point :) But mostly just not practical in lategame due to there being so many units.

@@mrchr1s94 Monks are technically speaking a better counter, but with some caveats, first of all it's hard to micro monks on a large scale. Secondly, they are better as long as they can convert the elephants, meaning that Heresy and Faith can really cut down on their effectiveness. Imo monks are the best counter in castle age, but fall of in imp, as affording those techs in castle age is hard, but not on a black forest map. Most Elephants don't get heresy but Malay do, they also have the weakest elephants, though they are much cheaper, while Teutons have excellent monks, I wouldn't recommend it in Imperial age, unless you have godlike APM. That said, monks supporting other units, and converting a handful of them is probably well worth it, IE if you have halb, or knights with say 10 monks that are converting or healing you can trade quite nicely.

@@exeonx6561 Yeah, the best thing I can do is have a group of monks with theocracy and "queue up" conversions. Though, if I find the time (or there's only a couple units to worry about) I'll specifically select a couple units at the same time.

"Adding units to a control group no longer causes the group to hold more units than selectable. Excess units are now correctly removed from the control group and the new units selected get correctly appended to the group." This was always part of their original April patch. 3. You're still stating something that obviously hasn't changed. If I can still do it, other people can too, and the problem is on your end. I can still use shift to add units and building into a control group. You'd also think if this changed pros would be mentioning it. But I have been watching more pro play recently (after the patch), and no one has mentioned not being able to add units to an existing control group.

One thing I dislike about aoe2 community is they don’t talk about the game after they play… they just go to the next and pretend the other one didn’t even happen. In this specific individual game. Why in the beginning of the game at like minute 4-8 when you went after all of those bore, didn't you just sent all of your food workers to build a mill by the boar? Instead sent 2 workers, then you built multiple houses, fences, fought a gator, built a gate, and you then had to use your scourt, ended up wasted like 5x times as much as you would have if you just told your other villagers to go build a mill by the bore instead of just leaving them all at the tc to cut down a single tree together. I see you do this quite often, you waste twice as much time as necessary by bringing the Boar back to your tc instead of just going to the boar. It's 100 wood for a mill right? essentially for 2100 food in this case, seems like a fair trade, you don't have to use your tc. I'm not judging you or attacking you for this, I'm just thinking, unless I'm wrong, because your vilagers were idle until you told them to cut down a tree while they waited, lol. I just think in my opinion, it's quicker and better to just send your villagers to the boar since they were temporarily idle.

It's still less walking time. He sent 2 villagers going forward and back instead of the whole town. Those villagers did idle and had to chop wood a little bit but still they were working, not walking. Plus it just looks cool. Quick walling quick gating like that. You are right, for us plebs (and DauT) with 30 apm it's better to just build a mill, but for the Viper? This is content and this is fun.

Still seems like TTK just don't have much of a role, especially with the recent buffs to Champs. Their slight stat upgrades over Champs don't seem to offset their higher cost, slower speed (TTK's are even slower than Elephants...) and their increased difficulty to mass (Which also includes the fact that making a bunch of castles instead of barracks means it's harder to swap into Halbs when needed...) Feels like they just need a little something to get an edge somewhere compared to Teuton Champs/Pala. Like bonus attack versus some type of units or maybe take reduced splash damage (So Onager/BBC/Battle Elephant/Chakram/Scorp would deal less damage to a group of TTK's)
