I like that idea. First unit costing three resources but it would better reflect how it can fulfill two roles. Maybe even 30 food 30 wood 60 gold since both knights and cav archers cost gold.

No. Every single other units of Bengalis costs food. 40 food is more expensive than 20 wood + 20 gold in Castle Age where Bengalis is already the weakest.

I don’t like having three resource types as a cost for the unit. It makes balancing the eco for it exponentially hard. Better suggestion is to make it a food and gold unit since it’s also a melee unit. Also it’s not as easy to do cheesy strats with food and gold if that’s the intent behind the change

I don't understand why Rathas work the way they do. When they announced a ranged unit with a melee attack, I thought it would work like Stronghold.

I wouldn't say improved. Phosphoru minmaxes better what each villager is doing and when. The reason he focuses more on stone in the begining is exactly to avoid being in a vulnerable position for early attacks.
