I thought the fight at 27:10 must have been from an onager shot, but shotels really do perform that badly against Legionaries, especially without Blast Furnace, even when there isn't a single centurion to inspire the company of ~30 legionaries with extra movement and attack speed. With or without the charge attack, legionary kills shotels in 3 hits. Shotel kills legionary in 5 hits with blast furnace, 6 hits without it, and costs the same. Legionaries don't get Supplies but surviving 1 more hit means they trade even more efficiently than Aztec, Burmese or Dravidian champions: they start with fewer numbers, but in a big fight there are a bunch of 1v1s or 1v2s and surviving an extra hit means a lot more legionaries survive the first 10 seconds of combat and can help mop up. The best thing your side could have done would be to add paladin, or even just hussar to snipe onager. You and Somero fell into a trap: Somero made cav archer to counter infantry, and you made BBC to counter onager. These sound like good options, but even Ethiopian BBC require micro to counter onager, and can't kill quickly. Your BBC spent a lot of time running away from onagers, and some died to onager. As a counter, this works best when onagers without micro are shooting at low-value targets: infantry or cavalry. When each shot kills a scorpion, BBC only work as a counter if you can perfectly micro 6 BBC to attack-ground in front of 6 separate onagers: otherwise, your 2 BBC will be overwhelmed by 6 onagers appearing at once and pushed back. BBC and cav archers would be pretty good to hold at a castle, but even then an infantry push can push back the BBC and allow siege to take down the castle (unless you build walls in front of the castle to protect ranged units, which you never do). The main advantage of scorpions over onagers is that they don't kill your own units, when enemy units and friendly units are close together. If the enemy units are melee next to expensive friendly siege units, you're nullifying this advantage. Again, the best thing for your team would have been for Somero to add cavalry, relying on scorpions to kill pikemen. The best thing you could have done facing onagers and infantry and the need to push quickly before DauT's side died would have been shotels in siege rams, moving along the sides of the battle. Tank castle fire, fast enough to avoid some onager shots and force infantry to chase for a long time to catch up, and if you see onagers the shotels can kill them without dying to castles. Once castles are down, shotels have a lot easier time sniping onagers, and without onagers you could clean up purple quickly. You only used shotels as a main combat unit, when their speed and fragility makes them better at raiding and sniping, especially if a siege ram is tanking TC and castle fire.

It's easier to get a balanced game with a 50% chance of winning in a team than a 1v1, and the ladder makes you wait ~7 minutes before giving you a game with a much weaker opponent (see: Hera's game against someone with like 1400 lower Elo rating). These games aren't formed on the ladder, though; they're formed on a Disc*rd server, which means when one is being formed you don't have to wait to get a game, you just join using the link. When there isn't one being formed, Viper does 1v1s on the ladder. At a more complex level: something like this community has competent players, so it's not frustrating to play with them, but also that the map makes it so one person making some big mistakes is less likely to lead to the team dying, because of the boom dynamic. If your ally dies on Arabia, it doesn't mean you're getting a free boom. I don't know why Viper kept Arabia as one of the dev picks for team games and 1v1s when he chose the map pool. Also, this comment got filtered by KZbin since it's clearly offensive and unacceptable for this website.

why would you go paladin? you auto die to full halb from romans and zerks with cheiftans, vipers siege would FF a lot. CA was a great choice.

Neither viper nor somero made any meat shield. That was the problem. Either trash halb/hussar or something like paladin (more expensive but also more than just a meat shield). Without that they didn't have a well rounded army and were pushing very slowly, even though one of their opponents was losing his base. When you have an untouched eco like that tech switches are cheap, but I guess they're used to playing more open maps still.

At minute 30 you had 55 pop space and only cannons…you need to make a standing meat shield so your flank can use his army to raid. They just kept pushing you off the position, no forward progress or damage to economy. And not shooting buildings 🙄 house -5 pop, and time to remake. Military building, -1 army on the front…Always so greedy, stick to 1v1 Viper
