Vocalyst I don't know if you knew but they are a sister band to nightwish because nightwish has members in nightwish that were in wintersun. But that list again was starting first is wintersun sons of winter and stars 1.5 official lyric video. Then is wintersun time live rehearsal video at Sonic pump studios in Helsinki Finland. After that is wintersun land of snow and sorrow live rehearsal video. If you love nightwish you'll love wintersun. Thank you wintersun Alex ❤️

Hindsight is always 20/20. To me, the bigger blessing is that we live (and lived) in a time when it was all recorded over and over again, and remastered so we get to enjoy it all any time we want. I'd just like a professionally remixed "Justice" album, the way it should've been. I know it was remastered in 2018, but remixed and remastered are two very different things. Let's get the album we (but above all else... Jason deserves!) The body gets old, but the mind stays metal.

James Hetfield has said before that they get a lot back from fans saying how this song helped them in dark times and made them feel like they weren't alone. It did the same for me when I first heard it at a young age. "I wrote the song at a friend's house in New Jersey. I was pretty depressed at the time because our gear had just been stolen, we had been thrown out of our manager’s house for breaking shit and drinking his liquor cabinet dry. It's a suicide song and we got a lot of flak for it, as if kids were killing themselves because of the song, but we also got hundreds of letters from kids telling us how they related to the song and that it made them feel better."
@smftv7 ай бұрын
James's moms death is an integral part of this song. She (Cynthia; also once an opera singer) passed away from cancer when he was just 16. His parents were strict Christian Scientists and didn't believe in medication, just faith healing, so had his mom gone to the hospital, she may have survived (and certainly longer than she did). She also helped James pay for the amp that was among the gear that was stolen). Very important pieces to the story of the song "Fade to Black".

This is why Metallica has been covered by so many classical instrumentalists (piano, acoustic guitar, entire orchestras) and other genres. Take the lyrics and the head banging out, which is hard to do, and your left with a beautifully composed work of art. You really should react to "Nothing Else Matters" It's so melodic and the vocals are amazing. I don't think it is like anything you will ever hear from a "metal" band. Years ago I fell in love with a woman who taught me what it is to feel what this song attempts to convey. She was my princess for four years, and I've been her victim ever since the day she ended us out of the blue, without warning or cause, to pursue a married co-worker and then sought to cost me my job, filed false charges against me (fully acquitted months later), and for two years continued filing false police report after false police report. Those who feel I must have done something know where my mind was at the time. I was a convenient victim. She didn't want friends and co-workers to see her for the calculating, cold-hearted robot she was capable of being. So she used me... made it look like I was the bad person so she could play the victim. And I still have the nightmares decades later. This song encapsulates the emotions she gave me to endure for a lifetime.

I feel you brother. The pain haunted me for years and it was a long process to let go. It helps to understand how messed up in the head those people are that can do those sort of things. I have learned to forgive them (yep I've suffered two of them) and even feel sorry for them. I wouldn't go back and change anything, it was definitely a hard and painful way of learning but it helped me to where I am today. My mind still reminds me of it now and then, but I don't feel attached to it anymore. I've learned to just let those thoughts dissipate without clinging to them. I truly hope that you are, or have been able to, find peace. Calm seas don't make a skilled sailor, I am thankful for the storms.

I completely respect your point. And probably the best place to start given I heard studio version many times, learned the guitar riffs, etc before seeing live the first time in 1989. On the recent tour M72 - James has been taking a couple minutes right before the end to discuss suicide openly. Most fans know of the struggles he has faced with addiction, his upbringing .. and for people, especially teenagers, to see a man like James Hetfield really open up and make himself vulnerable is an extremely moving event. But fully agree to check out the studio version and acknowledge how powerful that is as well .. especially for one of the up and coming heavy metal bands in the early and mid 1980s. (and being in middle school at that time and being the first Metallica fan in my class I knew the truth but had to deal with the opinions / judgements of other students, parents, pastors, etc on Metallica . Although I was lucky to have parents that lived a very moral existence, practiced what they preached, but never judged my musical interests .. that always left a very strong impression on me)

To truly get into Metallica, you gotta react to Anesthesia, Pulling Teeth by Metallica...❤❤ Cliff Burton was the original bassist, and he was killed in a tourbus crash September 27, 1986... Listen to the live version from 1983...

I adore you. I just adore your delivery. Thank you for your brilliance, I am not sure how I have learned so much through your view.

This was Metallica at their creative and live peak. They got a lot more popular after this, but they never reached this level of creativity again.

Followed metallica since mid 80s here in Ireland. This song will always be on of my favorites of theirs.

Oh no! Such a shame 🙁 why live version?? This song is just too special to be ruining your first time experience like this.

It's interesting that you use the word alluring to describe the intro, given the subject matter of the song. The allure is exactly the point.

Winger Tears of blood power and passion from a very underated singer. Hello from Sweden 😂

This song is about before they made this album, they had all their equipment stolen from and thought they were over with. A friend of theirs helped them out

He did a lot of work to save his voice. During the recording of the black album James blew out his vocals covering a song called "So What". After that he spent time with a vocal coach. His voice still sounds great, but you can tell he changed his style a bit for longevity.

Love watching your reaction videos - wondering how to recommend a group/vocalist for you to review? If you haven't heard of the Canadian band Marinas Trench (fronted by Joshua Ramsay, you NEEED to hear them. Hard to say where to start as his vocals are straight up insane (epic really) - but they just released the opening song (A Normal Life) off what will be their next album and it's something to behold.

9:42 you said that "I love when I personally can understand words beacuse that's such a a huge part of a song" and I can't believe that you don't cry whit this song, been Fade to black the most emotional Metallica's song

I am 54 years old...55 next month... I think I've seen Metallica 8 times live. From the 80's to the early 2000's. Amazing live band. I dunno if anyone is better.

It's so easy to box musical styles based on the cliches of their genre, but throughout heavy guitar-based music there is complexity, amazing musicianship, humbleness and bare emotion. @The Vocalyst I enjoy your videos for the dissection of the music from someone who clearly hears each part in isolation as well as the output as a whole. TY.

No Leaf Clover with the San Francisco symphony is a must. For a very recent performance, I suggest the tribute to Elton John, funeral for a friend. And for an amazing performance, The Day That Never Comes, Nimes Live.

That is a theme of Metallica. They are one of the best bands of the last 50 years. Creativity, relevance in lyrics, music syncopation of many different rhythms...it's all there. That's why it's becoming popular again now. Also, try listening to the studio recordings for more clarity in the music.

Suggestion for video - your personal choices to count down (however many singers you deem be included) the top rock vocalists with your comments - not on vocal technique but what about their voice leaves you saying why each is where you place them all the way to number 1. I'd love to hear about what are you 'intangibles' - that make you most impressed. PLEASE! Thanks very much for what you do. You are the best at this analysis.
